Time to wake up, America and the EU, China doesn't need you and your money to succeed. Stop your whining, it's embarrassing.
We don't even think about you
What are they going to sell all their tat to? Chinese economy is in a poor state, just as the government manipulates it to paper over the cracks, doesn’t mean they’re not there!
@markfowler2066 Right now the only successful cars from China in the EU are imported Teslas and China owned MG.
China has a debt to GDP ratio of 90%. The country has been teetering on economic collapse for the past 18 months and can’t just keep throwing cash into the system forever. The property market has collapsed completely. Chinese economics. I wouldn’t want to own a Chinese car and then have the parts supply chain dry up.
KIA EV6 lost like 60% of its value in 2 years
Many guys here still didn’t get how advanced DMI 5.0 is in fuel efficiency. A generation ahead. BYD will dominate in China market next two years.
The cool thing about EV is that if one install solar panels in their house, the running cost is also negligible for the next 25 years.
So you have room to install a thousand solar panels on your house little fella? BAHAHAHAHA!!! Also, do your solar panels charge the battery in your EV at night, when you're actually home? LOL!!! 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡
Keep in mind that apartment living is increasing rather than conventional homes so those people will have to rely on public charging if they buy an BEV.
Yeah, apart from the huge cost of solar panels and batteries and needing to replace your roof sooner it's free.
@@brucemitchell5637 What a weird comment.
True
Totally sold 🎉 Immediately ordered a Sealion 6 after test drive, we would like to have just EV around town and HEV for occasional long country drive!
My Uni aged son who's only ever interested in Apple and Tesler was impressed after checking it out.
We ordered a Seal too, such a good handling and control.
As a family in Australia, we all fall in love with BYD now! Such a refreshment in the car industry, doesn't look like we'll ever look back on Tesler and other hybrids again!😂
Where do you keep your sealion and seal. You must have a REALLY big pool at home. Do they eat much 😋 :)
I pick up a Sealion 6 tomorrow. I have a few reservations (bit late now) but your videos help to put things into perspective. I was considering an Outlander PHEV and I could not get past the price. This thing is 20k plus cheaper and has everything..
Congratulations🎉
Not just $$$$! BYD is Way better in technology! We checked all out and decided on a sealion 6 and a seal!
An ABC survey said 7% of people surveyed in Australia own an EV, 15% are considering buying one, 78% said they dont own one & not looking to buy one.
Saw a BYD dealer in Mexico while I was on vacation. I didn’t see any on the road, but these make a ton of sense for cab drivers who primarily do round trips from hotels to airports.
Subscribed. Like competition. The Japanese/American/European car makers have ripped us off too much, too long!!!!!! Why Tesla has dropped $35k in last few years, because we have free competition. A BYD Seal costs $53k in Europe and it has been pretty much banned in the US, but it only costs $29k in Australia, I am happy that we can save $24k.
Chinese cars will be no cheaper in the end. 🤣🤣🤣
Yes, the legacy car makers have ripped you off for years. So now you can have the pleasure of being ripped off by the Chinese once they get a foothold.
@@ivannavi8154 The chinese are already price gouging here in Australia
No chinese are very competitive people are so misinformed that they only have goods build to last for a very short time but thats far from truth. They have both low end but their high end products can easily outlast in terms of quality any other manufacturer in the world. They have really aced manufacturing. If they had a better more transparent governance china would have dominated the world but some shady politics nd silent wars r the only problem
Your $29K will just be the down payment towards an endless money pit…
Glad you could see the forest amongst the trees
Hi Sam, good to see you making it clear today when you are talking about USD vs AUD, there's a big difference so please be consistent in doing this when talking about Dollars.
BYD is competitive, not just here in Australia, having same impact in Latin America -Brazil
They are not competitive....they make a loss on every EV they sell..
@@grantbuttenshaw they don't, not even in China, and even less in foreign markets where their EVs are sold at 30-60% more.
@@juandiegoceleminmojica8790 Ive looked at.their sales figures and profit margins....they make a loss.
Actually, BYD is NOT competitive, especially against Tesla's superior engineering. Price appears to be a winner, but look at what you are getting (google BYD chicken suspension for example), slow AC and DC charging (wasting the owners time). Inefficient motors, no heat pump (Atto 3) and so it goes on... Just get a Tesla IMO...
@@greghudson9717 and shit software with minimal updates
We did a test drive in the Dolphin (Comfort version, base was not available.)
Nice EV, ferm seats, not much room in the back seats and also not much headroom, decent 340ltr luggage space, price started at €30.000.
But the base version only has 95hp motor, weighs 1650kg and has a 60kW charger, 0-100km in 12.5 sec.
Than, i sat in the new Citroën ë-C3 MAX, that also has the 400v LFP battery.
Seats were more luxurious, enough space in the back seats, lots of headroom, 310ltr luggage, about the same range.
It has 100kW charging, 0-100km in 11 sec, 113Hp motor and 1490kg. All in all, we think it is a much better EV, more luxurious, faster, more space and . . Cheaper.
Starts around €24.000 for the You version and for top spec MAX version it is €28.000.
So, we didn't buy the BYD 😁
You made the right choice.
Thats in europe. Aus version is like half price
@@swingingswing289 That's because you only get a car that's half as good as the Citroën.
Citroen doesn't have the battery technology blade is much safer
@@protagonist9716 That Citroen will still be around when the BYD has been put through the crusher.
BYD doesn't rate in Europe, the UK, Canada, or the USA. Australia is one of the most successful countries in the West for BYD. Even with BYD's three models compared to Tesla's two, it barely scraped 40% of Tesla's sales. Each time they release a model, everyone talks about how it will give Tesla a run for its money, but It never happens. And the reason for price decreases across the board is not led by BYD or because there are more Chinese EV producers; it's mainly because battery prices have halved over the past 12 months. A year ago, when prices were higher, there were still over 40 EV manufacturers worldwide, with about 52 the last time I looked. There's been plenty of competition for some time now. As for the cheapest of the cheap Chinese/Asian vehicles - they've been around for decades and never made it to our shores,. Eg the Korean Hyundai Getz is the only one that comes to mind now. People don't just want 'cheap', they want great value for money. This is why Tesla's dominating and will continue to do so for a long time to come.
Given the scarcity of charger and distances in Australia , the only things I want from Atto-3 80KW battery and 250 KW rapid charging. Even if it cost more totally worth it.
Another icing on the cake would be integrated destination charging like tesla.
Finally, someone with a real brain making a comment...
That's why we decided on a sealion 6 in Australia. It covers both worlds...
Test drove the BYD Dolphin and the MG4 last year. I preferred the Dolphin due the combination of the interior, tech and the fact that it used an LFP battery. Drove on a wet day and my main reservation was that I lost wheel traction a couple of times when taking off and I was not accelerating that hard. If BYD had invested in supplying better quality tyres than the current Ling Long tyres, I think they would get better car reviews and more sales. Yes I could always change over to different tyres myself but I hate the wastage of dumping 4 new tyres.
what tyres would you go for?
It's an affordable car, the tyres are acceptable, that's it.
It sounds like a piece of rubbish.
Both MG4 and Dolphin are good cars and value for money. I test drove both. For me it came down to front wheel drive vs rear wheel drive. I preferred the driving characteristics of the rear wheel drive MG4. Torque steer present in the Dolphin was a bit disconcerting on abrupt acceleration. But the Dolphin is more comfortable with a nicer interior.
I cannot imagine I would ever own a car no matter how good it is with “Build Your Dreams” plastered across its rear
Why, Kiwi? Apply your science and technology.
The majority of people live in marketing created realities and are almost completely unaware of that.
All BYD will achieve is to fill our junkyards with their broken cars.
The high tariffs that Europe and the U.S. of put on Chinese cars will only slow them down it won’t stop them coming. It’s history repeating itself, When the Japanese car industry wanted to sell in the U.S. high tariffs were put on. So the Japanese set up factories in the U.S. and came anyway and took a substantial market share. BYD are going to build a big plant in Mexico, while they say it only for South American market it will be to market into the U.S. and it will be tariff free under the free trade agreement
To the guy saying these are fake comments. Keep this comment. I've been buying The last 3 months I'm up 20% and we'll see where that goes in 10 years. Let me put it this way. They're not going away no matter what you its big world 🌍 Plus their battery storage. Go drive your Toyota and shut up
Like you say, when the market is FLOODED with affordable EVs. At this time, Western market has not been FLOODED with affordable EVs yet. I do share your vision that the world will be flooded with affordable EVs in the near future.
Just wondering how long the government will continue subsidies to buy market share.
Buy zeeker start now down downward protection doesn't matter about tariffs they're buying these batteries. Everybody besides look at the revenue coming up quick real quick. They don't want BYD. They got no choice. Sanctions help this company. If you understand the business model of how it was started to begin with Long-Term hold. I don't see it dropping much after this ever
I know you don’t read comments Sam, but I am totally with you on this. I drove one off the first 10 Dolphins to arrive in the UK. It is a brilliant car, for what it is, even at twice the price. It drives well, is very well packaged and equipped, very well built, quick where it needs to be and extremely comfortable. Very hard to fault in the real world. Perhaps it could do with a better audio system, and better driver assist. But that’s about it. The Kia EV3 could be a game changer though …
Brilliant sounds like an exaggeration. No car under $100K is in the brilliant league.
Love my Dolphin!
@@aussie405 how was your sex with the Dolphin ?
I drove one at the Everything Electric North show in Harrogate, it is a very nice car. However, I will probably wait a year before buying one in order to let the price decrease a bit and hopefully the insurance price will drop as well.
I do think that the choice of colours is poor and hopefully better colours will come along by then.
All Kia's need to go LFP to be worth buying. Too many currently burning down. 😞

Luckily Australia does not have a domestic auto industry acting as a millstone around its economic neck.
its not a millstone, having an industry is a good thing.
@@Withnail1969 Not if you have to maintain it with tariffs and bailouts and overpriced vehicles.
Electric Viking was talking about it recently.
Do BYD in Oz still have the odd warranty conditions where their suspension & infotainment has a shorter warranty than the rest of the car? Where some other components are only covered for 12 months, including the charging port?
Exactly, that does not instil confidence
Sam never goes into details like that.
Sees a headline and boom, churns out a video 😁
@@Scotty_AU ye old shorter 3 yr 50 or 60 000 mile warranties on ice and diesel engines from the legacy manufacturers also had 6mths or a year stops on lights ,glass , interior and other components , just sayin
There’s plenty of manufacturers with warranty limitations. Read the fine print… At least BYD makes that information easy to find.
I purchased my MG4 over the Dolphin as it’s RWD and handles better. Next car will be Zeekr or BYD though.
BYD is the real deal, and it is setting itself up to compete on a global scale with products that meet the needs of the larger car market. Even their high-end pick-ups are much more affordable than a Ford F150 or Chevy Silverado EV. Once they get their Mexican factory operating, they are sure to saturate the market in Latin America with affordable quality vehicles that will eclipse anything the legacy car makers offer. So, while legacy automakers will remain protected by high tariffs in the US, they will surely lose market share everywhere else, given their inability to produce an affordable EV that can yield a profit. The legacy companies are falling farther and farther behind. Even Tesla, the most advanced car maker in the US, must prepare for the wave of Chinese cars that will hit the rest of the world in the next few years.
Here in Canada we are watching Australia with so much jealousy. Cars are so expensive both Tesla and traditional ICE brands.
I hope BYD can build PHEV trucks, EV engine can give higher speed and agility of trucks. high efficient ICE engine can save a lots of energy and gasoline usage
the established automakers pivoting to phev's as a last ditch compromise have already lost. the inherent planned obsolesce of ICE cars is likely dead. cars like the chevy volt show, you plug in the car, it does all of its in town driving on the battery, the motor only runs on the hwy, and 5 hwy miles = 1 in-town mile in terms of durability.
the engine only lasts 60k in town miles, but that means 300k hwy miles and another 100-200k ev miles lol. chevy dealerships hated the volt because it didnt break. 2013 model with 130k miles on the dash and zero degradation. actually i get 15-20% more range than it came with brand new. why would anyone buy a car now days that wont last +500k miles.
Hybrids have outsold BEVs here in Australia by a country mile.over the past 18 months.
so serious question. I'm thinking of buying an electric car within the next, year, prefrably end of this year (Just depends on how broke i am after my renovations and holiday) but i've looked and looked and each time BYD just offers better peformance for the price.
My main interest is the seal premium 2024 model but should I try and wait it out for the 25 seal ? Would the 25 come with considerable upgrades (Ignoring the new BYD OS) over the 24 seal?
Definitely wait if you want the seal, but beware, no-one (except you) really wants a sedan, so resale value will probably be poor.
@@greghudson9717 well i mean i've had a sedan for years which is really old now but ignoring that is there likely to be a bigger update to the 2025 seal that would make it worth waiting?

What's happening buyers are walking into BYD and seeing Dolphin is expensive compared to China. Bring the BYD Seagull then we'll talk, doubt the BYD extortioner will price gouge that for Aussies as much.
Because Australia doesn't feel the need to protect workers when you don't make your own cars anyway..Yes China will take over the EV market in the next 10 year's. In the world. The only thing that will slow it is tariffs.

Maybe in a few years.

They have a growing foothold here and that’s concerning, no one can buy land in china yet they are buying up huge swaths of land here and around the world.
We already have enough surveillance and ev represents an opportunity for real time and real world data collection and analysis of massive areas quite effectively and all paid for by us.
The yanks finally shot down a balloon in the states claiming spying was occurring.
Not sure any other manufacturer is 100% safe, but call me whatever I don’t care.
I’m not buying anymore spyware than I need to.
Just a thought and it’s my opinion on,y for others to consider whether they agree or not.
Not denying we all have phones and just about everything else as well.
It's pretty obvious who's paying for your trip to China.
it is fact that BYD is brining affrodable EV cars around the world
Yep yet another compromised Ad for BYD - Buy TH-cam Duff
Me, I'm paying for his trips to "China" subscriber😂
lol the copium is real
Test drove Tesla Model Y LR Hamilton to Mt Gambia and back - wow !!! makes my ICE out of date.
澳大利亚需要理想汽车
MG4 is a better package, with faster charging and RWD.
Also heaps better warranty to BYD here in Australia
The MG handles better, true, which makes it the better driver’s car. But the overall package does not compare with the Dolphin. The Dolphin is much better equipped, faster (excluding the X-Power, which is OTT), better built, more spacious, and more comfortable. I like the MG4 a lot. But the Dolphin is the better overall package.
If you've been in a MG car and a BYD car you'll notice the difference immediately. BYD uses higher quality materials and the overall build quality is a far above MG.
@@oxaile4021I would say that the materials used is reflected in the prices of the 2 cars.
@@eish3291 Exactly. On paper the MG4 seems like the better deal but once you see them in person the reason why the Dolphin costs more becomes quite apparent.
Will all those BYD vehicles be surveillance apparatus?
Yes... because your information is so important to china's development 😂
You sure BYD does not expect more than this to fund your upcoming trip. Shills gonna shill
I won’t buy a BYD with the distribution arrangement in place with AP Eagers. The warranty is very poor, service costs are crazy for an EV, the cars are too expensive and the fast charging specs are average.
I do agree that the Australia distribution network is rubbish
Yes and the CCP is trying to take over. It isn't all about the car.
I’ve owned a BYD for nearly two years 24 K on the clock and found it excellent my local dealers are great. Your call but I think you might need to recalibrate your attitude mate.
@@rohankilby4499 When BYD sell direct in Australia I’ll take a look. The current arrangement sucks. 💨
@@rohankilby4499 Glad you have had a good experience. Until BYD goes direct in Australia I’m not touching one.
Byd will destroy australia
Interestingly this hit the U.K’s Daily Mail, that quote because Australia no longer has any car manufacturers to protect, the country is in the pound seats for cheaper EVs. Not sure, if it is true regarding no more manufacturers to protect, given the Daily Mail is known to be somewhat economical with the Truth.
Actually the story is probably mostly accurate. We have a 'free' trade agreement with china but they are still adding tariffs to some AU$20b of items we export to them. We have no tariffs or import duty on chinese cars, so EV's should be as cheap as chips, but that is not the case. We are being price gouged / reamed like it's going out of fashion. I drive a chinese built car (Tesla) and a chinese built phone (Apple). They CAN make good stuff if they are forced to, but if they aren't forced, buyer beware...
Your a collaborator
price needs to drop another 20% - then we'll be in business
tesla model 3 LFP is still the best value imho, software is critical in EVs and teslas is best in class and easily compensates for the premium price
EV and anything Chinese EV will go the way all electric tryhards go every 20-30 years!🤣😆

Why Used EV Values Are Dropping Like Crazy!
Which brands though?
@@lordlee6473 watch it.
You cannot compare the build quality of a Japanese car against a Chinese build. Its not even close.
they'll improve, just like Japan made cars did.
@@robertbidochon7949 I watched a few videos, all showed the poor quality of Japanese car (build quality ), compared to the Chinese car.
Can Japanese cars swim?
@@Cupid_Stunt I know this surprises you, and it surprises me too, but it's true.
Perhaps if it brings prices down that’s a good thing as the dolphin is $61,000 Australian dollars here in Finland 😢
So around 37,000 Euro.
Wow! Goodness!
It's about AUD30k in my country in S. E. Asia and I'm still waiting for the price to come down and with a new battery that can take it 1000 miles.😅
You've got no chance because the EU has now increased the tariffs on Chinese EVs even higher.
@@vasil7410
Last that I read, Sweden and Norway are not following EU's decision.
isn't that because of stupid EV tariff?
Clearing out all my Alts going into BTC and Cyberopolis only, maybe a little BNB and SOL
the current little mg has a far more sexy or aggresive front , byd versions a bit eco grandma
It's also a better car, the MG4, spec wise.
Which BYD do you drive Sam? 😂😂😂
He HAD an Atto 3 but sold it to help fund his wife's cancer treatments.
Interesting side note, don’t the Chinese literally eat dolphins? It’s like Tesla naming one of their models chicken or cow.
Nope, the Chinese dont eat dolphins, its the japanese
The Australian Motor Industry Federation and the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries might have a say about China flooding the Australian market with cheap EVs and hybrids . We will see if this actually translates to lower prices across the board. At some point the Australian government will have to step in and control predatory pricing. US, Euro and Japanese auto makers will be placing a lot of pressure on our government through their Governments to hamstring China. After all they are our allies, so I'm not as optimistic as you on pricing. I have to laugh when you say 57k AUD is insanely good value 😂😂 just a couple of years ago that was almost in luxury car territory . It's simply too much for what is essentially an entry level vehicle which used to cost low 30k for equivalent ICE.
They also use slave labour. This is widely known. CCP is trying to extend its tenticals via soft power, along with carrot and stick.
IF there is any predatory pricing, it will only hurt the Germans and the Japanese, so who cares ?
@@greghudson9717 Fair call, we are a small market, I give you that.
BYD's have one MAJOR problem, and that is charging speed. You pull up to a 250kW charger in your Dolphin Premium (60kWh battery) and you are throttled by the charging speed of 86kW - way less than the 250Kw the charger can output. (I have the. same problem with my Tesla Model Y, but it can at least go to 175kW charging speed). The same with AC charging. Go to a free 11 kW charger, and you only get 6.5kW instead of the 11 I get in my Tesla. What this means is the Dolphin takes AGES to charge (wasting your time), and holds up others waiting to charge. BYD needs to up their game and INCREASE charging speed on both AC and DC (fast) charging. It will save so much time, especially when on a long road trip...
How exactly is the Dolphin better than the ORA? Seriously, can someone explain this to me? It's certainly not the acceleration - the ORA's 0-100 km time is much better.
Really??? The Dolphin is better in every way I can think of …
@@marketingwizdomlike what? As I said, the 0-100 time for the Ora is way better.
You only have to have one look at an Ora Funky Cat, and everything else looks better. Hmm catchy name too (not).
hanging out for the BYD Seagull
The base 70kW model should be about 30k, not 36k. The Ora is a better car than the base Dolphin, and it's 1k cheaper.
and why not. My next car will be a Chinese EV. either BYD or one of the Geely brands. -
prices are NOT at parity, in fact far from it. ave price new ICE $37k ave price for new EV $64k.
Depends on where you are and what you are looking at
Quoting the average price across all cars makes no sense because the EV range of models is not that extensive yet. You need to look at specific segments where EVs are already competitive on price. If an EV doesn't yet exist in the segment you are looking at, then wait for the influx of new Chinese brands and models to arrive.
I’m not average
