Thanks for your all lovely reply ❤️🙏👍. I always appreciate you. Shana you are my dearest lovely Person. Thanks your positive comments. Have a wonderful day and Christmas Eve. And Christmas 🎄 enjoy with you family members. Thanks 🙏💕💗💛🧡💝
This video was SO helpful. This is such a fun posture. I am working on it with blocks right now. I am working on my core strength and shoulder stability in this posture before moving off of the blocks. It's so much fun to balance on a part of the face as you say ;)
hi shana, do you have any videos or tips for locust? i find that its almost impossible to lift the legs up when my arms are not chaturanga arms. many thanks. its Chinese new year tomorrow. wishing you a happy and properous year of the rooster!
happy new year to you, too! while i don't have a specific locust video, i do go over it to an extent in my yoga wheel (actual yoga wheel...not upward facing bow) backbend video (th-cam.com/video/5Ae43PNpuHY/w-d-xo.html) . hope it helps. that's a hard one...but props really help...
good luck! i think you will find the blocks make a big difference! and also, you can always practice in front of a wall in case it's fear that's holding you back. :)
I do teach online, if you are interested. :) I have one public class online on Wednesdays at 7pm Pacific Time, plus many privates. And I also have a full channel of full-length classes of every level, every intensity, and every duration at vimeo.com/ondemand/yogathletica 🤗
Shauna,I love your videos, always learn a lot from watching them! Could you make a video about Karandavasana next time ? Really need some help to not falling down ,thanx
Hi ,of course I did! Maybe I was the first one who watched this video, now I can do Karandavasana, but just half way down,if I land my lotus on the arms,I can't go back. I should train my core harder! I know I must watch your most important thing of yoga video. Don't you think that's funny? I can do press to handstand, but I can't do Karandavasana😭
Britany Rodriguez you do need some flexibility, but not an extraordinary amount. A bigger backbend will take you deeper into the pose, but deeper isn’t better. Deeper is just deeper. 🙏
This is an awesome pose for a Combat Sports athlete.... I really wish I was near LA to ... I would so study yoga with you at your studio.... Da'Shiznit you are... I will work on this... Oh.. the hand stand stuff required me to get stronger and more supple thru the shoulders but when I do I will get it. I weigh 235 and growing because of the Vinyasa stuff I am doing.
practice is key. you may want to sign up for my vimeo channel. it is full-length classes to build the flexibility, strength and balance to do this and all the poses i teach on youtube. the channel can be found at vimeo.com/ondemand/yogathletica and i promise it will help get you into any pose at all!
Shana...are the elbow position like Chaturanga arm position as in close to the ribs or should they be slightly under the body like peacock arms? Thanks much!
Shana, I LOVE your videos! I have a problem with arm balances in general, that the front of my shoulder socket (where my collar bone attaches) hurts when I try to lean my shoulder down past my elbow. Is this a strength, stretching, or alignment issue? Thank you!!!
kristabossipants thank you so much. i am so glad you love the videos. honestly, any time you go past 90 degrees in the elbows, you will be straining the shoulders to an extent. that's why our primary bends (such as chatauranga dandasana and most arm balances) are 90 degrees or higher. but sometimes... well, we go past. i can't really say what the cause of your pain is without actually seeing you do the pose. if you want to send a short video response, i'm happy to look at it... also, do you have any outstanding shoulder injuries? are there other poses that hurt in the same place. pain won't usually be a strength issue (depending how you define "pain"), so you can probably rule that out. alignment-wise, make sure your elbows are (more or less) over your wrists and not falling back behind them. also, make sure the shoulders are rolling back and down so your collarbones are broad. don't cave your shoulders in/round them forward. hope that helps! :)
shana meyerson Thank you so much for your quick reply! The only shoulder injury I have is being a bench research scientist and chained to a desk for the past 10 years. I'm thinking maybe my shoulders socket needs to be opened in a more specific way? I feel the same small/acute pain when doing bird of paradise, marichasana C, and bound pendant. I've made great progress with my shoulders in puppy and wheel, but those poses use the shoulder in a different way possibly? Thank you for all of your insight! I've been glued to your blog all afternoon.
sounds like you are feeling the pain when internally rotating your shoulder. focusing on rolling the shoulders back and down in this pose will hopefully fix the problem. :) and thanks for reading my blog!
Lexie Brown, a lot of this is a matter of open shoulders and spine. so, practice those shoulder openers and backbends! and...open hamstrings help a lot, too, in getting your leg higher in all inversions. (yogathletica.com/the-one-yoga-pose-you-never-suspected-would-revolutionize-your-handstands-forever-2/) hope that helps!
Shana, will working on this pose be a stepping stone to a chinstand ( viparita shalabasana). I have the flexibility to do viparita shalabasana but not the strength to go into the pose. I can use props , etc to get into the pose . So I thought that maybe working on Ghana behrundasana would help to get me closer to doing that pose. Please forgive my spelling of these terms. Haha!!
+r boyington i wish i could do viparita shalabasana...my back isn't that bendy! or my neck! :/ this pose will help you with the mechanics of lifting the upper body, though the arm work is completely different between the two. best of luck with the practice! :)
+shana meyerson thank you for your reply. Yes it may or may not happen for me. I'm just working towards it and seeing if it will happen one day. Either way, my journey towards it has opened up my flexibility and strength in many other ways and poses
hi Omarria Mohammed. did you try it with the blocks? that will take a lot of pressure off of your chin. also, technically, if you press into your hands hard enough, you can take your chin right off the floor. so, keeping your chin on the floor, can you press harder into your hands and lift up from your core to lighten the pressure on your chin? sometimes a pose like this takes some getting used to! ;)
Shauna,I love your videos, always learn a lot from watching them! Could you make a video about Karandavasana next time ? Really need some help to not falling down ,thanx
hi jacob. you're the second person to ask for that one...it's on the list! meantime, i do have a video on handstand to crow though... :D th-cam.com/video/1hW6XjPYwC8/w-d-xo.html&feature=c4-overview&list=UUBXsU8xFxmxGoqUlhRDtrfg

hi, Jacob Chen. did you see my karandavasana video i made? turns out i CAN still do it. ;)

sadly, i also can't figure out how to go back up! yet!
I love this pose!!!! I just need to make sure i get nice and grounded before the scorpion part.
+Maurice Gingras totally...the scorpion is the bonus. ;)

:D there's a lot more hilarity where this came from! ;)
enjoy the channel!
Do i need flexibility to get this done?
Britany Rodriguez you do need some flexibility, but not an extraordinary amount. A bigger backbend will take you deeper into the pose, but deeper isn’t better. Deeper is just deeper. 🙏
Great job! Loved it. Practicing it now!
***** how's it going? :D
It's tough! :)
questions? or post a video response and i can look at it and give suggestions :)

Hi Shana, thanks for another great video! when you're using the blocks (5:21) is your chin touching the floor?
It really depends on the size of your blocks and the length of your neck. ;) Mine isn’t. High blocks, normal sized neck. ;)
Many times I watched but still i can’t do it.how are you?every thing is going to 👍
practice is key.
you may want to sign up for my vimeo channel. it is full-length classes to build the flexibility, strength and balance to do this and all the poses i teach on youtube.

Shana...are the elbow position like Chaturanga arm position as in close to the ribs or should they be slightly under the body like peacock arms? Thanks much!
Good question. They are hugging the sides like chaturanga, not propping you up. :)
Thanks Shana...😘
I can't get my leg to go up and bend! Any tips?
You are my treasure,
🤗🤗🤗 thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️
very nice shana
JYOTHI KUMARI thanks! 💗
