    Why is his blood blue?
    Because he’s a noble.
    You know…a BLUEBLOOD.
Also, no, Tristan’s mom was not the star, the witches killed the last star that fell and consumed her heart. The last piece of it was what Michelle Pfeiffer’s character consumed to get her youth back. Tristan’s mom was just kidnapped and enslaved by Sal.

this movie does Victoria so dirty
in the book, she's devastated after Tristan disappears to go get her star. She, and everyone, assume he's dead. She falls in love with Mr. Monday, the owner of the shop Tristan used to work at, but when Tristan shows up again she feels obligated to fulfill the promise she made. She and Tristan are both relieved to learn the other person has found their true love and neither of them want to marry each other.

One of my absolute favorites and deserved more love when it came out.
Another movie that I think deserved more was Inkheart, starring Brendan Fraser, Paul Bettany, Andy Serkins and Sienna Guillory.

I love that the king didn't care enough about his kids to give them names (since he knew they'd all have to kill each other for the throne anyway), so he just numbered them. Primus, Secundus, Tertius, Quartus, Quintus, Sextus, and Septimus and Una, the one daughter. And, of course, the ghosts of the brothers having to wait around until the next king is crowned and end up just critiquing everyone's actions.

This is one of the few book to movie adaptations that I actually like more than the original book. Not that the book is bad, just the ending is so quick and unsatisfying. The movie’s ending is a bit more classic hollywood, which suits the movie.

To me, the first act gets better with rewatches and awareness of what's actually happening - which is something I find with a lot of Gaiman's storytelling, interestingly, and I take it as part of the style these days - but I can definitely see how it feels sloppy on first watch

I think the beginning of the movie is just an editing choice maybe they removed some scenes or reordered them perhaps but it didn't really bother me much. The mother was not the fallen star. That star got her heart cut out and we saw Michelle Pfeiffer's character Lamia consume the last of it before the chase begins.
You also missed some queer subtext in the Coronation scene. Victoria and Humphrey are both there, and Victoria looks visibly upset because Tristan turned out to be the better catch and he got away. Then it cuts to DeNiro's Captain Shakespeare leaning back and looking over ... at Humphrey. Nudge nudge, wink wink, Humphrey gives a little shy blush and looks away, then coy smiles & looks back over at DeNiro, who gives a little smug chuckle. Victoria catches this look between the two and realizes that not only is Humphrey not a King, he's actually more interested in being a Queen. At least occasionally.

6:22 I’d say other than Mark Strong, Rupert Everett as Secundus might be the most recognizable actor among those playing the sons. But you’d better not be saying you didn’t recognize Peter O’Toole as the King!
8:59 I still can’t believe that Michelle Pfeiffer was 49 when she made this movie. She didn’t need the heart of a star to look young… wowzers.
43:06 Oldest loophole for “immune to magic” there is: She couldn’t hit Tristan with a spell, but because the magic isn’t aimed directly against him, she could hit him with a jar that she was controlling with a spell. As you said, he shouldn’t have revealed the flower, because once she saw it, she knew which loophole to exploit.
46:50 If you look carefully, you’ll see that they turn into six white sparks and one red; the white sparks go up and the red one goes down…I think you can guess what that meant, and which son was the red one.

Two things that you seemed to have missed:
    1. The pirate winking at henry cavill, and he smiling back, was hilarious (especially when victoria sees it).

I thought they were the same actress through most of the movie! Thought maybe the color left her hair or some shit haha

In the book Tristan haven't had eternal life.
He died in his old age, and Yvaine lived alone after her loss. :(

Oh my goodness, that's why he looked so familiar! I didn't watch Daredevil. I need to! But I've seen the character in other Marvel properties. Very interesting.

Fun fact: The princes have their number on their clothing, whether it's the embrodiery or on the buttons, etc.

I think it would have helped if you knew going into this that it was a Neil Gaiman story. This is one of my favorites, but i love quirk.

A unique movie, lost in time along many others from that era.
