IKR? I've always equated the two. PB is a bit on the goofier, lighthearted side, whereas SD is a bit darker and more serious, but both phenomenal films.
Some tremendous performances in that, but the lack of budget makes it a challenging watch. Well worth it, though, especially if you've been to London, or have a map handy
My two favorite bits from the movie: - The way Captain Shakespeare's second in command rolls his eyes every time the Captain acts all piraty, - Mark Williams as Billy. Arthur Weasley, Father Brown, and a billygoat. Talk about range!
If you look at the princes' outfits, they have their number on it. Septimus has 7 on his buttons, Secondous has a roman numeral 2 embrodiered on his coat for examples.
Woohoo! I'll watch this when I get home, have it on blu ray and have the score on cd, when they dance and she shines bright it messes me up! Beautiful feel good romance
Loved the reaction and loooove this movie, it's soo nostalgic to me. Also fun fact, since you mentioned Ella Enchanted, Claire Danes is actually married to the guy who plays the prince in Ella irl! :)
I loved your reactions to this, I've listened to the audio commentary from the director, he gives his own view on royalty through the blue blood! Scotland's national animal the unicorn helping out! This movie has a special place in my heart! I love the take that song too, thanks for doing the video and I love your singing, makes me smile with happiness, be safe ladies :)
Written and directed with Sandman cover artistDave McKean. Very low budget fantasy, produced by the Henson company (but sadly, no muppets.) It's fun. But the story of it being written (complete with Terry Gilliam coming over for lunch) is equally good.
One of that rare niche of adaptations that manages to both stand completely separately from the book, while still being every bit as good. Movie romances are pretty hit-or-miss for me, but - like everything else in this film - the romance in this one is just irresistibly charming. Then again, Neil Gaiman can also be pretty hit-or-miss for me, but the book is fantastic, so I guess Stardust is just out here batting 100. (And speaking of Ilan Eshkeri, who evidently does a top-tier sweepingly romantic soundtrack: if you enjoyed the score for this, check out the score for Young Victoria!)
I read Sandman as a teen which is the only comic series I've followed, and when I heard about this being a Gaiman story I was all in. I eventually read the book and was not really that impressed but this is great. Which led me to keep an eye on Charlie Cox which paid off big time in Daredevil. Also Claire Danes is always so adorable! Great reaction, Alex you glow as brightly as any star!
Did you just quote The Decoy Bride?!?! I LOVE that movie and nobody else has heard of it! Such a charming movie, It would be fun for you gals to watch it together for the channel, even if you have seen it before
My crush on Ben Barnes started from Prince Caspian, but my crush on Charlie Cox started here. Ended up making my bf watch this movie who loved the Netflix marvel shows and he actually enjoyed this movie. It was a good mix of silly, funny and romantic. (oh and almost forgot Henry Cavill as well, lol.)
My favorite anecdote about Stardust is from part of an interview Claire Danes gave where she was talking about teasing the director. He had asked how she was thinking of portraying a star, and she said, "‘maybe occasionally I might introduce a couple of jazz hands or something pretty subtle, and you know, occasionally emphasise certain lines here and there.." 😂😂
I see the story as inspired by 3... French authors: Charles Perrault for fantasy, Alexander Dumas for swashbuckling and the royal intrigues, and Jules Verne for same combined with the flying pirates bit.
"I thought this was a children's movie..." Filled with slavery, naked witches, fratricide, and a reanimated drowned corpse fight... 😅 Stardust is fun, but Matt Vaughn is still getting his feet as a director.
Unfortunately this is VERY different from the book. The book is much less sweet and has a very sad ending compared to this movie. The movie does Victoria dirty. She's much nicer in the book. And she and the other villagers think Tristan died. She ends up marrying Mr Monday (the shop owner) as he's younger in the book. Tristan does die at an old age, because in the book you have to eat the heart. And obviously he doesn't do that. And Yvaine spends the rest of her lonely, eternal life wandering the lands and mourning not being able to rejoin her sisters in the skies. Edit: there are also no sky pirates. Much less a gay one. That whole arc was done for the movie.
I adore this movie and story so much. I’m not interested in seeing someone who’s seen it before though. I would rather an actual blind reaction than a person who’s seen telling a person who hasn’t seen stuff without realising they are spoiling
11:16 The crazy thing is, she was 49 when she made this. So who the heck needs the heart of a star when you’re Michelle Pfeiffer?
Wow...she is beautiful even at basically 50. My fav gag was the face-lift and boob reduction spell.
She owned the role and I absolutely loved it.
Yay!! I've rarely seen anyone react to this movie, and it's a comfort flick of mine :) So many great actors in it too.
I think this is my favorite De Niro role.
Also I love the music in this movie.
"Sometimes karma is a ferret."...YAAAAAAAASSSSS!!!!❤❤❤
I loveloveloveloveloveLOVE this show. My favorite fairy tale. This is AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING.
this is this generation's Princess Bride
IKR? I've always equated the two. PB is a bit on the goofier, lighthearted side, whereas SD is a bit darker and more serious, but both phenomenal films.
There is a BBC miniseries adaptation of Neverwhere from 1996 that you may have missed.
Some tremendous performances in that, but the lack of budget makes it a challenging watch. Well worth it, though, especially if you've been to London, or have a map handy
Legitimately one of my favorite movies growing up. It’s got adventure, Magic, romance, what more could you want?
Sandman is phenomenal by the way
My two favorite bits from the movie:
- The way Captain Shakespeare's second in command rolls his eyes every time the Captain acts all piraty,
- Mark Williams as Billy. Arthur Weasley, Father Brown, and a billygoat. Talk about range!
The ending is a lot less Gaiman than the original story, but it's definitely in line with the Princess Bride tone they were going for.
If you look at the princes' outfits, they have their number on it. Septimus has 7 on his buttons, Secondous has a roman numeral 2 embrodiered on his coat for examples.
Oh I can’t believe I’ve missed that. Oh well, guess I just have to watch the movie again!
🌟🌟🌟This is one of my top loves!!! Paired with The Princess Bride! So great. ps Charlie Cox who plays Tristaian also plays Matt Murdock in DareDevil
Woohoo! I'll watch this when I get home, have it on blu ray and have the score on cd, when they dance and she shines bright it messes me up! Beautiful feel good romance
Love Captain Shakespeare. The best coming out story.
Oddly enough an adaptation I found... let's say more exciting than the source novel.
Loved the reaction and loooove this movie, it's soo nostalgic to me. Also fun fact, since you mentioned Ella Enchanted, Claire Danes is actually married to the guy who plays the prince in Ella irl! :)
I would love to see you guys react to another Michelle Pfeiffer movie, LADYHAWKE.
to quote CinemaTherapy: "he falls in love with a star and she shines for him"
I love this sweet love story. Charlie is perfect a Tristan as he is the perfect and only Daredevil.
Definitely one of my top favourite movies! Definitely one you put on on rainy days and also amazing soundtrack
Such a great great movie. So incredibly well done. Great reaction you two!
Yes finely someone watch Stardust ❤
For a trippy Neil Gaiman fantasy, you have to watch MIRRORMASK. Real Wonderland vibes, but with the Gaiman twist. Real obscure though..
Written and directed with Sandman cover artistDave McKean. Very low budget fantasy, produced by the Henson company (but sadly, no muppets.) It's fun. But the story of it being written (complete with Terry Gilliam coming over for lunch) is equally good.
Love the Moulin Rouge rendition at the end!
I think that both of you would really enjoy the new "Shogun" mini-series.
One of that rare niche of adaptations that manages to both stand completely separately from the book, while still being every bit as good. Thanks for sharing this reaction to one of my favorite fantasy films.

Mark Strong and Jason Fleming were also good bad guys in "Kickass."
Omg Tashi Duncan’s I TOLD YA t-shirt. Can’t wait for watching your Challengers’ reaction. (If you plan it, released in VOD in May 17)
THANK YOU! We were hoping someone would recognize it. And OH, we WILL be doing that movie for sure!!!
They really should remake Gaiman's Neverwhere as a streaming series (with a proper budget)
I'm watching the movie right now and the movie is based on Stardust the Wizard a comic book hero Blessings and HUGS 👑💜
Have you guys reacted to Queen Charlotte?
Maybe my favorite Deniro role. And I love him in everything.
My crush on Ben Barnes started from Prince Caspian, but my crush on Charlie Cox started here. Ended up making my bf watch this movie who loved the Netflix marvel shows and he actually enjoyed this movie. It was a good mix of silly, funny and romantic. 😂😂
But if you want baby Charlie Cox, so baby that he's unrecognizable, you watch Casanova.
Also Henry Cavill is Humphrey!!! WHAT THE WHAT!!!
If stardust a spiritual successor to the princess bride mirror mask is the the same to the Labrinth
Yay! Amazing movie
I am desperate for you guys to react to ‘A Discovery of Witches’. (Also cant wait for Andor 2) ❤ from 🇬🇧
I see the story as inspired by 3... French authors: Charles Perrault for fantasy, Alexander Dumas for swashbuckling and the royal intrigues, and Jules Verne for same combined with the flying pirates bit.
I hate how much I love this movie
41:44, I think it's obsidian (Dragon Glass of GoT). Reputed to be sharp.
Knapped obsidian is absurdly sharp.
If you two haven't already, you NEED to check out the 2009 'Dorian Gray' movie with Ben Barnes as the lead.
I love this movie so much! It gets compared to The Princess Bride a lot, but (controversial yet brave opinion) I think this is better.
I'd say Princess Bride leans more on the comedy while this one leans more on the romance and magic.
I think her not ageing is because she's from Faere
I do love this movie. No offense to Ms. Pfeiffer, But I prefer someone more like you 2. Especially, the pretty one!
There mirror mask which I love and
how to talk to girls at parties which I didn't care for but you might
"I thought this was a children's movie..."
Filled with slavery, naked witches, fratricide, and a reanimated drowned corpse fight... 😅
Stardust is fun, but Matt Vaughn is still getting his feet as a director.
It's more of an adult fairy tale that's family friendly (ish)
Unfortunately this is VERY different from the book. The book is much less sweet and has a very sad ending compared to this movie.
