She always ask to hear sleeping in the cold below. I don't think there is a song of yours that we don't like. Thanks for the music. Be blessed.
THANK YOU FOR THIS COMMENT! I spent quite a bit choosing and arranging the tracks to fit where each one would chronologically take place. I also had to research into what time of year people would take the northwest passage and how long it would take, for the lyrics to The Last Length, so that’s honestly so great to hear! Cheers for listening, mate! 🙏
@@ColmRMcGuinness The historian in me is proud you went and did that kind of research. You should make every album like this, with the same crew setting out to new parts of the world and singing about their travels.
So that explains all the X marks as the album progresses! It was a literal journey to Hawaii from England! (Well, assuming this was the 1700s when Ireland was in English ownership, of course.) Dang these songs picked by Colm actually depict an amazing piece of hidden lore!

Here's the story as I picture it... A trading vessel, the Irish Rover, sets forth from Ireland to America. Aboard is a young crewman, let's call him Noah, who is torn about his path in life. He enjoys his life at sea, it calls to him, but he's got a sweetheart in Maui whom he loves, and he wants to give her a proper life. The Captain, an old salt named Alistair, sympathizes, and reveals he once made a similar choice, leaving behind his love, a Native girl named Shenandoah, to live his life as a sailor. He advises the lad to follow his heart, for while you can love both a woman and the sea, you cannot be with both. All along the voyage, young Noah bonds with and talks with his fellow crewmen, becoming something like a family. Laughs are had, tears are shed, and life is lived as they sail across the Atlantic and through the Northwest Passage. Finally, when they reach Maui, young Noah decides his place is with his sweetheart, and bids a tearful goodbye to his shipmates, and an approving Captain Alistair. For while their hearts take them in different directions, a part of him will always remain aboard the Irish Rover, and the crew that became a second family to him.
One historical fact, Shenandoah is generally used to refer to the Shenandoah valley. Named for Chief John Shenandoah, a native chief, warrior, scholar, and theologian. He was instrumental to the American founding in many small but very important ways.
To try and add to this amazing story, I'll try which locations are being depicted for each song (As represented in the X marks), along with a bit of story. Do correct me or suggest more if I'm missing anything, or would like to extend this. Ag Fágáil An Bhaile: Ireland The Irish Rover, sets sail from the Irish homeland for a long journey to come. Row Me Bully Boys Row: Celtic Sea This was the time our sailor friend Noah began to become one with the family of pirate crew. Bully in the Alley: Azores This is the first one I seriously need suggestions for, as the only thought I have, is a quick stop to refuel and resupply. Hanging Johnny: North Atlantic Ocean The crew hunker down for what has to be the longest part of the journey, crossing the North Atlantic. The Irish Rover was to endure possibly several high-end storms that would nearly sink the ship. Running Down to Cuba: Cuba Depending on which part of Cuba they arrive at, the Irish Rover either resupplies once more, or the crew have a quick vacation at the Maui-like climates of Cuba. Shenandoah: US East Coast Setting sail once more, the Irish Rover passes by the US East Coast, stopping by to rest and resupply every now and then. Barrett's Privateers: Halifax Port At this location, the Irish Rover along with her crew prepares for the coldest part of their journey by foraging for stuff such as wool or fur for jackets. The Northwest Passage: Canadian Archipelago It's finally arrived, the longest and possibly most treacherous part of the journey, crossing the Northwest Passage. Thankfully due to their preparation, the Irish Rover successfully crosses. Old Maui: Bering Sea The beginning of the final stretch is here. The cold, near frozen waters of the Bering Sea may produce a challenge, but that won't stop them. The Last Length: Pacific Ocean Smooth sailing from here for the Irish Rover. This is truly the final miles of the journey to Maui. Six weeks have come and gone since they set sail from Ireland, but now was the time they arrive. Here's a Health to the Company: Maui They finally made it to their destination, Maui. This was where Noah was to say goodbye to a wonderful ship and a mighty crew. The Irish Rover continues to set sail, but Noah was to stay at Maui for the rest of his days.
