The game does a poor job explaining how parring works. After +20 hrs of game i had to watch on you tube how to parry correctly and what block, ballanced and fencing meant. If that many people don't get it, it's not them, it's the game not explaining correctly.
@@Thesavagesouls I agree that the balance block etc was badly explained but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand how to parry in this game. But i have heard about people somehow struggling on the easiest difficulty which baffles me.
Something I didn't see mentioned is that parry is bugged/ineffective if you're on higher ground than some mobs. Whip warriors and some chaos will just ignore the parry and you will take damage if your fight on steps/inclines and have the high ground. It might also happen the other way around but haven't tested that.
Imo, the problem with the defensive play in this game is that it wants to be weighty and slow like darksouls, while also having horde mechanics like vermintide/darktide. Darktides gameplay feels so much smoother and responsive because you can quickly go back to blocking or dodging while the attack animation is going off essentially. Pressing an attack button here forces you to commit for a long period, and pressing the parry key while an unblockable comes out forces you to commit even if you recognize you now need to dodge and spam the dodge button. Being unable to quickly transition from offense to defense, and from one defensive method to another in a horde game feels really, really disjointed and bad. You can get used to it and play around it, but that still doesnt really fix the problems in the first place, and forces the smaller enemies to be a lot less threatening than they otherwise could be since you cant just wipe them out while dealing with the larger threats as easily.

Unfortunately, this is how the market and the economy as a whole work, the target audience
See ya then!
I'm with you. I wanted something closer to Darktide. I have disdain for dodge roll and dislike parry. I'm going to stick with it and see how it goes.I feel like not all parries follow the same timing in this game and I wish there was a different sound for both dodge and parry.
Perfect parry and dodge windows decrease with higher difficulty, so doing this on ruthless will not be as easy
I can’t parry or dodge, well I can, but getting the perfect parry is almost impossible for me. The little circle thingy means nothing. I just have to roll away from everything and nuke them from orbit. It’s the only way to be sure.
Nah you can do this man. Just set it to the minimum threat level and practice!! Just stand there and literally repeat the parry test with the timings in mind that I went over and eventually it will just click in your mind
Counter point: The community thinks parrying sucks because it is the optimal way to play. Using normal melee combos is suboptimal compared to parry spamming. The community wants normal melee attacks to not feel like a wet noodle compared to parry spam.
@@mike91980 HE HAS SPOKEN. ON BEHALF OF THE COMMUNITY. LET IT BE KNOWN
nah it’s okay though, I personally use melee often, but I get it for those who don’t agree.
unironically I find it easier to consistently parry with heavy than i do with a bulwark for example, i dont know if its the fact that I dont just mash melee so im more focused on proper parrying or what but the difference is crazy, then again with the bulwark sometimes i have games where my brain just goes on vacation and i cant parry for the life of me
*eats both pills* It's not a great parry mechanic compared to some games but you can still master it with practice.
@@HumanityAsCode hahahahahaha okay this one was good.
Although I personally love it, but I also enjoyed your comment!
Very awesome video! Well said
I haven’t been able to parry the whip attack, I can never get the flow right.
I will get it eventually.
The only thing broken in this game is
@@glasfish you will get it eventually for sure !! Stick with it. It’s all reps, like anything else. Once it clicks you will never miss it again
do some attacks require two parries, or does the animation automatically repeat for any incoming attacks (I'm noticing this specifically on the whip attack)
These are two separate parry inputs, meaning you have to press the button twice with the correct timing !
Yeah, not sure if you mention bulwark in this video, but the timing is delayed on him since he takes a second to sniff his shield before throwing the parry out, and even with fencing there is a 3 chain attack he can't parry because he's literally just too slow. That's not a skill issue.
@@TheSkelzore hahahaha sniff his shield
Double tap
@@DavidTector That doesn't stop him from sniffing his shield. So it doesn't remove the delay.
@@TheSkelzore I didn't say that. But it works for me. I parry in pve and pvp with great success.
@DavidTector I too parry with great success, you are sadly mistaking me saying that it is delayed and annoying with "I'm bad at it and need advice."
The weird thing to me is you can parry too late which makes you eat the hit even if it looks like you did it perfectly. I really don't get that one.
What are your keybinds outside of spacebar instead of default "c"?
@@b_b762x51 so my brother, I use right click for ADS, I use mouse5 (side button for melee), shift for dodge and caps lock for sprint!
Coming from sekiro to this game so I needed dodge to be shift
@@horg7203 Thanks for the reply - been working on different binds (coming from Rust). The Emperor provides!
hey can i bring up a thing to try to get some help? i have never been able to gun strike, i have beat the campaign, all the operations, and lvl 8 in MP, never been able to gunstrike. first thing i did after first pressing start on the main menue was change my PC KB&M keybinds, like alot of them, so im guessing thats the issue. im gonna try a controller later, but yeah, i think keybind changes may have a bug that affects gun strike mechanic.
edit, ive also never locked on, i rebound that to X and it doesn't work, so maybe there's something there too.
@@thirdimpact172 I use C for lock on but rarely use it tbh in this game.
Have switched most of my keybinds except the left click, I’ve had no issues like this ! Hope it gets resolved
Can you share your full m+k mapping? Where do you have dodge?
@@lukewookiee yeah this is actually the most important part :
My dodge is Shift
My Parry is Spacebar
My Sprint is Capslock
My melee is mouse button 5 (side)
My ADS is right click (like most other shooters)
I don’t care about having my caps on while I’m gaming
@@horg7203 thanks
Thank you very much here's a sub and like 🎉
People complaining about melee in SM2 are all just skill issue casuals.
Is that supposed to be some kind of offense? I'm a shift worker with a family. Of course I'm a casual player. There just is no other way I can play games. But does that make the opinion that the parry system in SM2 is pretty weird less true? I mean, I'd be okay with there being NO indicator at all, so I'd know that I have to pay attention to the enemy animation and I'd be okay that there sometimes just is no indicator at all. But as it is now, it feels inconsistent.
Having to play casual naturally means, that people need more time for practice and have less consecutive time to figure things out on their own. It does not mean, that as a casual you want the game to hold your hand.
No need to talk down to anyone, little pro bro!
@@snorrimcguffin2282 Go play fortnite then, don't ask devs to make a game easier for you.
Can confirm its a gunlevel issue and not having the best party melee weapon.
Assault is still trash imo. Need fun buff
It is definitely the weakest class but I wouldn't call it trash. Assault is my main, at level 25 with relic weapons and built around gun strikes it feels very powerful.
It is insane to me the amount of complaints and whining about the combat and parrying in general. Have these people ever played any 3rd person action game? There are soooo many with similar systems, and few of them give you a practice mode like this game does. It took me a good 10 min of sitting in the practice mode to get the timing down on things, ever since then its been awesome. God forbid these people ever play a fighting game, itd be WW3 😂
Skill issue… not when I’m lagging so hard because there are no servers in my region and offline isn’t an option.
Its absolutely trash on ps5… i have 3 max levels… and i cannot stand the parry/ block and healing… it drags this game down half the time you see the indicatore 1 second before getting hit
