Did you know you can do drop down attacks like with the jetpack with out jetpack and targeting circle just jump off a ledge and press Melee mid air and you'll do a strike down
Pommel smash straight into ground slam then hip fire, baits out a parry, hip fire a couple shots between the first and second parry which puts then into execution.
The fact that carnifex got buffed and become more aggressive, using assault is still a struggle especially with slow melee weapons. Tho fighting swarms is better by a bit now.
It does good damage but not as much as the relic tier chainswords. The tradeoff is its huge cleave potential for taking out groups of enemies without a ground pound.
It's funny that you show that "animation cancelling" technique and then when you're facing an actually challenging number of enemies you barely even swing the hammer in favor of parries and even when you try to force it you just take damage because you should have dodged/parried instead. That's not what I call good melee combat. Hammer (and other melee weapons) needs more reasons to actually use it vs just baiting out parries.
If you're facing a large enough group is when you want to use your jump pack. Especially with the cool down reduction at 23 you're getting boost back after every ground pound
so? ofcourse I will parry if I have to parry :D the point is this mechanic makes combat better and more fun, I never said this is THE ONLY THING u should use and turn off ur brain and never parry:) I actually explain that mid combos if its not working just PARRY:) and ya people keep saying melee combat SHOUDLNT be this or that, the reality is IT IS THIS right now,will it change? who knows, but whatever it is now im trying to make the best of fit

My favourite class are Assault, Tactical and Bulwark. When I play Assault and Bulwark Neurothropes and Zoanthropes are really annoying to deal. Plasma Pistol and Heavy Bolt Pistol is just not enough to deal with them(may be for Zoanthropes if you have full ammo if not u are dead) I have to wait for Neurothropes melee phase or rely on my teammates.
The 15% more pistol damage on assault perk tree and 10% headshot dmg bonus from pistol perk tree is super important for this class. Makes assault a little more flexible
I don't have a good enoguh PC now and I play the game streamed. It occasionally lags which makes parry nigh impossible for me. It is completely reasonable to use the thunder hammer with block type as well. It eliminates the perfect parry window completely but it saves my butt non-stop.
I SO needed this advice brother, now I shall slaughter using your tactics! I hear Assault is regarded as the worst PvE class but to be honest it gives me the most fun currently, same as bulwark: as the Emperor's my witness, I just LOVE me some warhammer and powersword action and those classes deliver.
I have this issue where in mid-air I'm charging my dive. But the target gets stuck on a nearby little guy and will not move. Big waste of my Ground Pound.
Assault is NOT a trash clearing class. It does clear trash as a side effect, but that should never be your goal. Assault has some of the highest burst damage in the game. You are the melee sniper. At level 25 with the right perks and Relic weapons an assault can put all mid tier enemies like rubrics into execute range almost instantly. I use jump pack to pick out dangerous snipers are the rubric flamers and end them immediately. Even things like terminators can be taken down within a few seconds. Because our gun strikes do so much damage we can bully everything in this game.
Great guide. I literally started doing all this stuff two days ago so it's so cool to see the guide on it. The only other thing I do in addition to this is charge up the aftershock by literally just tapping it for half a second. You don't have to hold it any longer than having his hand reach the hammer. If you do it though you'll probably going to lose one armor but there's almost always going to be a gun strike afterwards

While I sort of agree. I think we already do WAY too much damage for this. I can already delete everything in the game with just a few button presses. We already are the biggest bully.
Yep, been playing the hammer wrong and the animation cancel will change how I play this class now, so thank you! Assault has been one of the harder classes to master imo, as I've only the sniper to level up. Now that I've seen what is possible, Assault should be a better experience gameplay wise. And subbed!👍
Parry to cancel animation is a good tip. I’ll surely keep that in mind. I usually, if not all the time, lose armor because I can’t dodge the attack mid charge. Thanks!
I’ve love how engaging the assaults playstyle can be, an have been maining it after maxing the other classes. However I just wish the class had a bit more going for it in terms of damage. It’s definitely in my opinion the most fun class, but that doesn’t necessarily make it the most effective class. Also with this new update it’s introduced this consistent stuttering issue that just hampers the experience, at least for me. Especially with a class that realizes so much on parrying.
I’m going to save everyone the best way to play assault is just use the chains word and the regular bolt pistol, I hate to say it but you need quick melee and combined with the stomp it just works, also with the 15% increase to the bolt pistol there’s no need to use the heavy bolt because the regular bolt has more ammo and does enough damage to kill the minoris enemies.
a lot fo the times reguler combosa re not enough and heavy bolt has another damage buff on the tree which works really well with the signiture skill, ammo on it is also very good if built correctly, that said normal bolt is also nice

This unlocks another level to the class. I noticed how fluid the parries were with the hammer but I never thought to to animation cancel after a ground slam. Thanks for the tip
One thing I noticed with Enemies not attacking is as soon as you start attacking they will often too. Dont know if thats coded into their behavior but with this you can often bait attacks by starting an attack but canceling it into a parry.
u mean slam? u have a perk that adds another slam, a u finish one slam let go and hold again on the button to do the second hit, if u mean aftershock that is also a perk u have to activate
Game is unplayable now to me with this ultrawide "fix" especially using Assault now i cant see anything close to me since the marine takes up 1/3 of my screen now. :(
What fixes it for me is to crtl+enter to leave fullscreen and crtl+enter again to re-enter fullscreen. But I'll warn you that it happends a lot and I have to fix it all the time at random intervals mid game.
Haven't bought the game yet ( a bit tight on the budget rn) but always wanted to main assault with Hammer when I finally do. Heard nothing but it being really weak....your video gives me hope those people just don't know the deeper mechanics.
its a SUPER FUN CLASS, is it as sstong as others or as EASY to play? NO but u can complete ANY CONTENT with it, just takes time and u gotta be more carefull and thoughtful compared to otehr classes

I'm a sprint/dash expert (not exactly) Once you learn the timing of dashing attack the Winged Fury Perk is beast make sure to use the "block" Hammer since it has more damage than balance and fencing.

None of the fluff matters when melee in this game just doesn’t do enough damage. Especially for these 2 hyper focused melee classes you’d think in their skill tree would be skills that’ll massively increase melee damage to at least major and extremes enemies. And I’m using Ruthless as a baseline.
this isnt fluff :D this is something that works:) yes the melee damage isnt where it should be across the board, that doesnt mean u shouldnt use techniques to GET MOST OF THE DAMAGE that is currently offered, they will 100% buff assault fully soon

The melee actually does a ton of dmg if you stick to heavies. Sprinkle in a little gun fu in between the parrys and they will go into execution off the first parry sequence.

not a COMPLETE rework, gve it 3x signiture instead of 2, increase hammer damage to 15 from 10 with fencing, 1 perk on tree that makes u completely unknocable and 50% less damage while chargint attacks, done

I found the animation cancel this on my own too and it’s super helpful! if you shoot once after the slam your animation cancels a lot quicker!

You can complete ruthless mashing one button now anyways, they made the game dumb easyy
so kinda like monster hunter great sword using shoulder bash to skip the 2nd attack in the combo to get to the big final hit
great content bro, but you forgot to mention you can also dash cancel the aftershock charge (for perfect dodge in case of orange attack)
If you hold attack after a pommel smash it will go straight into a ground slam
