the Rocket is obviously awesome, but at twice the price it's not very compelling to say that its differentiation vs. the Silvia is its build quality; I've got a Silvia that I bought used 18 years ago and PI'd; it'll probably last longer than I do
It seems like a huge compliment to the Silvia Pro to be compared to a machine twice it's own price point. Honestly im surprised that the other machine was just barely better. This review IMO is more of a bash on the other machine.
Thanks for the video. Just have 2 questions and i hope you dont mind to help me. 1. Which expresso machine if i need to upgrade from Rancilio Silver X Pro? 2. Between Rancilo Silvia and Nueva Espresso Musica, which one will you have to pick one for yourself? If not the which else do you suggest? Thank you and hope to hear ftom you.
My wife and I have owned a Silvia for near twenty years. While I have had to service it over the years , it has given us great coffee shots for many years. I would like to move up to the Rocket unit. I think that it would be the last expresso machine that I would have to buy
About the timer functionality. The Rancilio can be used with a smart plug. Which outperforms both implementation and is definitely the better solution.
Same with the Rockets. Just keep the switch at the front in the ON position and have the smart plug handle the rest. Been using my R58 v2 for over half a year like this already.
Btw, an interesting alternative to a smart plug is “Lora tap” on amazon. This works as a simple remote switch where you have a physical button that remotely turns on the plug outlet. I have this near my bed and easily turn on my Silvia when I wake up
I have a Giotto that I purchased from you years ago. Would you be able to tell me what to do to avoid the bitter shots? You mentioned pre and post infusions. Not sure how to go about that. It seems I get more bitter shots than not and has been a problem.
Thanks for this video, enjoyed watching it. A little bit off topic question: got my specialita recently and I dose 18g in about 15 seconds. How did you get 20g in 8? Do the burrs have to "grind in" first? Didn't do any alignment yet btw.
the trouble is .... non-blind taste testing is meaningless... no matter how hard you try, your expectation bias will strongly influence your opinion, if not flat out dominate it.
Even though the price points on these machines are quite different, I thought the comparison was warranted since the disciples of the more affordable one claim it’s just as good as the more expensive one. This review told me that you can get about the same quality of drink-isn’t that all that really matters-from the less expensive unit. The difference in drink quality would probably be lost on your average Folgers drinker anyway. I love my Rocket but if I had settled on the other, sounds like I wouldn’t have been overly disappointed.
@@natalieharvey6847 Yeah, I repair there Brevile range of machines. The dual boilers have problems when they reach 3yrs and they are not minor problems. The boilers can leak and rust and can cost alot of money to repair.
@@natalieharvey6847 I'm looking at the Silvia Pro because my Breville Bambino just died - after 7 months. Yes I cleaned and babied that thing, but it still shat the bed.

Something I don’t see discussed very often on E61 group lever machines is that after you back flush the machine with some detergent the lubricant in the lever will be washed away and the lever will become hard and squeaky. The lever then has to be removed and lubricant applied. I am looking to buy a new HX or double boiler machine and despite all of the E61 group benefits I read this is a major turn off for me. How elaborate is this process of re lubricating the lever and how often needs to be done?
Seconded. The regular maintenance is an issue for me as well. Ideally, one should dismantle the top of the group head and clean, descale and lubricate 4 times a year. I have stopped looking at E61 machines since. Pity, because I love the look.
Some machines don't come on when they are first plugged in and they would still need a button press to be turned on. At least that's how my breville is! I wish that Worked!
@@ClayEldridge yeah these more prosumer machines are all mostly analog Silvia is turned on with a switch. but I agree with you I own a breville and it wouldn't work with a smart plug. to prove it you can watch any of the videos on my channel lol
Bezzera Magica PID HX vs Rancilio Silvia Pro DB? Similar price points and 🍏 vs 🍊, which would you choose? Brew 2-4 cups milk based product no more than 2 back to back. I’m leaning towards the Bezzera Magica w/PID although its HX vs DB. Thoughts?
The Silvia Pro definitely has better brew temperature stability and more minimalist look. But if you don’t care about that and want something traditional, polished and elegant with a bigger drip tray go with the Bezzera.
I’m about ready to pull the trigger on the 58. Would have liked to see a close up of the steaming. Seems I heard you could either remove the tall feet, or replace them with shorter feet, like previous models? Is that true? Thanks.
Hi there! The steaming is on par with commercial machines. Takes a bit of learning because of the two hole design, but I can get the same milk from it that I would on a La Marzocco, Rancilio, or any other machine. The feet are not removable, they are a completely new design from the previous models. Thanks for watching!
Excellent review - coverage and details across the board… It’s imo what people are looking for from a review. His breakdown was organized and I’m shocked how much better this review was for the R58 in this comparison video than the young lady had done when reviewing the R58 only. Night and day difference in reviews from the same company selling and reviewing. Keep this guy doing the reviews please… clearly knows his stuff and enjoys what he does 👍🏼
Is there a machine that’s more similar on price to the Silvia Pro that it could be compared against? Comparing it to a machine that’s twice the price hardly seems surprising that the more expensive machine performs better.
The R58 and Silvia Pro are already two of our most popular dual boiler machines, hence the comparison. Keep an eye on the channel for a comparison against the Appartamento.
These will likely be our two most popular dual boiler machines, most of the videos we make are to help with customer questions we get. Even at the different price points, we are seeing cross shopping between these machines.
@@Todd.T may i know your reason for that? Is that got louder and louder over time? Was thinking rocket type v but since you mentioned it i need to rethink
@@RichardChau Sure. Silvia gets louder over time because the rubber vibratory pump holders flop over to one side and don't suspend the pump properly. There is no satisfying low and powerful humming sound like in a rotary pump machine. Vibratory pumps vibrate the machine and everything it touches. The biggest reason is shot quality. I always thought the viscosity on the vibe pump shots were thinner than rotary pump shots and I was right. In a back to back Rocket type V vs Rocket type R shots, the R shots were creamier and more viscous. A friend of mine who roasts says he feels the pump delivers a pulsing pressure instead of a constant pressure. With the PID on Silvia when the boiler element kicks on, the vibe pump drops its rate. With the PID in my Rocket Giotto Evoluzione R, when the heating element is on, the pump sounds like it is slowing down a bit, but the pressure remains constant.
