Both great machines and they do their job. I have an apartmento for home and couldn’t be happier. These ones were out of my price range .
Sorry, but this seemed a very amateurish presentation on a comparison between two machines that could be so interesting.
I just can't believe these expensive machines don't have proper pre-infusion built in. I have a lelit Elizabeth with adjustable pre-infusion and couldn't be happier. It produces the best tasting espresso shots that I have ever had.
The Linea Mini is sexy but it needs to be $1500 cheaper

The comparison in price point should have been the Rocket r60v which has pressure profiling and would be capable of pulling a nicer shot. LM just seems so old school and basic compared to what's out there now with pressure profiling.
FYI - my new LMLM (Aug delivery) came with connectivity (which works perfectly) and insulated steam arm as standard (in the UK at least).
Need to mention, that the R58 pre-infusion needs to be plumbed to a water supply to get the pressure required. Also, the price differential has little to do with the consistency of the temperature (recent in-depth testing from Wholelattelove prove the R58 is exceptional), and probably more to do with the manufacturer price point. Tell me if I'm wrong...
Allie Kraft I have had the R58 for a few years. When I bought the machine, I asked this question, to which Rocket explained that without true water plumbing, you would never reach the required pressure to get an even distribution of water over the puck. However, just what that pressure is and whether it makes any practical difference is debatable. It’s a great machine.
Might be good to show off the drip tray they make for the LMLM to fit the acaia scale.
The LMLM has a 170ml (6 fl oz) brew boiler, NOT a 1.7L!!!! Hard to find these reviews credible when they don't have basic information correct. And it does matter, as the smaller capacity makes changing brew temps so much quicker.

I am looking to upgrade from my Rocket Cellini so looking at La Marzocco! Expensive but seems amazing.
It would be a good comparison to do LMLM vs R Nine One. The LMLM is way more expensive than the Rockets it is shown against here.
R9 is in a different league. The LM is more comparable to the r60v with pressure profiling. The R9 is more comparable to the GS3 and even then going by reviews would still absolutely smoke the GS3.!!

@@GuitarsAndSynths Seems like so, you really pay for the brand name and the style of the machine. I guess they just realized they were big time overpriced when they just released this month the new (Linea Micra) for like 2000$ less than the HUGE mini. I still think it is too much for a non-saturated group because then why not just get something like the (Lelit Bianca V3) which is by far the best E61 DB not just for quality but for a price/quality ratio standing point. I just received that machine today that I gifted to my mom and I'm jealous even if I have a modded R58 with Flow Control. It's as good as my machine "plumbing-wise" but it's like if mine was with a retarded PID and super old computer inside, while her was the latest high-tech computer interface. I would exchange mine for her anytime.

It is a 0.17l boiler, not 1.7 I. in the linea mini.
There is a preinfusion upgrade kit for the r58.

Just one technical note regarding temperature control I keep hearing repeated (not just on this video).
It is not a "PID". PID is not a noun. PID stands for Proportional-Integral-Derivative. Don't worry a about what that means unless you've studied calculus. Just know it is an industry standard method of controlling things (including, and often, temperature).
The point is that PID describes a *type of temperature control system, but is not the actual "thing" inside.
It's like saying to your friend "I like your new wool", when you mean "I like your new wool sweater". In much the same way, it sounds like an incomplete sentence when you say something like "The PID". It also alerts those "in-the-know" you are trying to impress, that you really don't understand the technology you speak of. But that's OK. It's kinda dorky and uncool anyway. 😉

I found it easier to just deal with the weight of coffee that ends up in the porta filter then adjust how much yield you choose based on the weight. It just makes things easier than adding or subtracting tenths if grams.
Big question! Can you measure the depth of the feet on the R58? Essentially, what is the minimum counter depth needed to have all four feet sturdily on the counter?

Why are you doing a comparison in taste with milk? That adds another element of discrepancies because of how you made it. You should have done straight shots only.

That is over the daily recommended caffeine allowance if you are not using decaf.
I love my Rocket Cinquantotto which I got from SCG. My only bellyache are the knobs. Their shiny metallic looking knob plates are not really metallic, but cheap plastic. I also wish the swoosh symbol and the R labels were not stickers. I wish they were permanently imprinted on the knobs. My labels are already peeling off. At a $3,000+ price range, I’m sure customers will not change their buying decision and be willing to pay $100 more to get a higher quality knob. I think the designer/product manager at Rocket cut corners with this knob design decision.
From interviews I’ve watched, I gather Rocket’s owner has a preference for giving a retro look to his machines. But that is not totally true of the high end Rocket machines I see, like the R 9. So, perhaps you can even consider using piston levers, instead of knobs, like the ECM Synchronika. Now we are talking.
I feel you, the knobs on the Rocket R58 are just cheap and ridiculous for the price of the machine when now even Profitec made levers for all their machine for just an extra 100-150$! I have the 2019 version of the R58 which is identical to yours other than the crappy PID, and even the feet are better since they are adjustable at least, however I can tell that Rocket did cut many corners and you really pay for the brand because every other brands give you much more value for the same price or even BETTER quality at a lower price like Lelit does. Let me copy/paste you a comment I just wrote to somebody else here few minutes ago.

The design of the water tank, the drip tray, the water reserve so it doesn't ruin ur shot by telling you there is no more water while ur extracting, the flow control which does 0% to 100% with only 180 degrees and that can even be automated in the PID, etc. It blows away the Rocket for 600-800$CAD less and you even get much better accessories and real wood knobs and handles! Rocket is just greedy.

I get this, but I also liked the weird quirkiness. I also loved the awkward weirdness of the Clementine videos. They had a lot more life and felt real, unlike some of the other businesses that put out super scripted, lifeless feeling videos. I'll watch SCGs videos just for fun, even when I'm not in the market to buy stuff. The other guys, I'll only watch for an alternative take on things when making a final decision.

@@NM2011CTSV I don't know what she was trying to do (seems like there a woman-child genre; Jenny Nicholson would be a similar example), but whatever it was, she had personality and was occasionally funny, like Gail. The new crew do fine "demonstrations," but rarely inject any of their personality into the video. That's what Ally is doing this video, though I have seen her more relaxed and personable on camera in some other videos (e.g. Aeropress Go!). This is feedback, not necessarily criticism. But it's worth noting that I watched a lot of Gail videos where I had zero interest in the subject matter. Nowadays, I just watch when I need to know about a product (e.g. Aeropress Go!).

Pointless and poor representation of an amazing machine. First the R 58 is $2,000 less than the 60V that would been a fair comparison. The R58 is closer to a manual BMW M3 fun to drive. The others are more of a 7 series sedan .

The Linea Mini is NSF rated and is used in a lot of low-volume shops and pop-ups. I don’t think the Rockets have NSF rating.

I think the video could have waited a day or so. No one was sitting at home thinking “I sure hope SCG compares the LMLM and the R58 today. If it’s not today I don’t know what I might do!!”
Curious if anyone knows what certifications are needed for this to be used as a commercial device? Pretty sure that's based on your locality and their rules, not some magical all-encompassing certifications? Could be wrong. The areas that I've checked, say as long as the device is considered a commercial device that you're able to use in a business. If anyone has any better insight that would be helpful.

the store is beautiful but it hurts my ears to hear her butcher those names. It took me a while to figure out what was a "lini". Linea is pronounced "lin - e - ahhh"
I didn't even notice till I saw this comment and listened closely. I think it is just because she says it quickly and isn't focusing on pronunciation that the a gets hidden.

LMLM is a dream machine imo. The only thing that irritates me a bit is that the water reservoir is not easily removable from what I understand. I think for someone not actually drinking that much espresso that might be a point to consider for cleaning and changing to fresh water???
But there are not many people complaining about that so there must be some good ways to handle this.
Would appreciate if anyone who has LMLM experience would like to answer/comment on that :)

Great presentation, I like that it wasn't rushed or edited. Sometimes its useful to see how long steaming actually takes and some You Tube video's do a time cut, I'm guessing to prevent boredom for the viewer but this is much more useful to see the thing in real time, cleaning and all. Wow that Mini steamed quickly and you didn't have to do much, the milk expanded so quickly covering the wand. With the Rocket you have to catch air and then raise the jug. But of course the Rocket is 60% the cost of the Mini.
All this bullshit of scales and timers, and both shots were not so well extracted. Looks funny, but a good barista doesn't need a PID nor timers for excellent shots consistently.
I haven't been to Italy lately but last time (20 years ago) did not see any baristas using scales, distribution gadgets, or steaming thermometers yet the coffee was exceptional.

The Rocket is just a gorgeous machine. The La Marzocco machine I’m sure is a great machine but is very ugly!
Are you out of your skull? Many will disagree with that assessment. La Marzocco has a timeless look. It will never go out of style. It has a beautiful classic look.
la marzocco is beautiful and will remain that in 30-40 years. these classic E61 boxes with adjacent steam wands and hot water spouts and notoriously ugly and will be even uglier as the time passes 😂
