Wow incredible effort guys, well done! I just completed my LEJOG ride yesterday. 1006 miles pedalled solo, approximately 88 hours riding spread over 16 days. Not the fastest but that was never the point. I am proud to say I did the whole distance without cheating i.e. hopping on a bus, taxi etc. Still, can't imagine how anyone could do this in one sitting - it is a hell of a long way! Looks like you had near perfect conditions. I had a headwind all the way to Newcastle (yeah from Lands End!) A couple of similarities I found noted from this video: time in the saddle feels like an eternity until you step off, roadblocks / road closures occur more frequently than you'd think, and it is amazing how when things are going bad, they remarkably, suddenly get better.
Just finished my second LEJOG a couple of weeks ago - it was the support team and fellow riders that make it achievable, the route planning that shows the scenery off to its max (no dual carriageways), and a bit of training that makes it physically possible to complete and enjoy. The route was over 1,600km but it also took a lot longer than 40 hours. A lot longer. Thoroughly recommend it to anyone who is thinking about it - don't put it on your bucket list, put it on your 'I will definitely do this within 12 months' list.

Just finished my first ever bike race, 1500 km of garvel, cobblestones , sands and mountain passes. It took me 10 days. Race is self supported meaning you are on your own with everything you face. Can't even imagine this distance in 2 days.
Guy who finished first thou only took 4 days, riding non stop for the duration.
You guys are machines)
Thanks for doing something so inspiring at a time when many of us need to know that not all is lost. A marvellous effort from riders and crew!
Thanks very much!
Amazing! Mark looked like he was ready to turn round and cycle back 😂
Yes incredible 😅
Aye but lookit yon map - it's aw doonhill goin back!
That was amazing! I actually got emotional when Hank and Mark hugged at the end of the ride. Wow!
Im blown away...im never complaining about a ride ever again well done
Should have started in Scotland, would have been downhill the whole way.
Did you not watch the video of them going to Scotland? It was downhill the whole way.
(Just kidding of course! I go to Scotland almost once a year; it's beautiful.)
Downhill but they would have had a headwind the whole way.
Eight months later, I'm watching this incredible video and I can't believe it. This is a real love to ride a bike. Thanks GCN.
44 km after the first shift (48 min) in a 39h ride - just a typical Hank's thing
I feel this deserves a whole GCN+ feature documentary film. Just the amount of prep for this is amazing. It would be great to get a deeper look into it.
Superb. It’s such a shame that the absolute best content on GCN involves so much human suffering.
Glad you enjoyed it, Chris!
I would actually entertain doing this route-just over a period of days-with the hope of meeting Hank and Mark and their incredible team at some point. Y’all are absolutely incredible and inspiring.
These are my favorite vidoes, a goal, a story, becomes a movie
Many congratulations, it is such a hard ride. Just loved your sporty socks and shoes! Atko
The worst looking thing about this challenge is having to ride on all those A roads - think I'd rather do it slower and take the scenic route. Mark made it look pretty easy - he's used to doing this kinda stuff on his own! Fair play as always to Hank - another gutsy effort.
What a challenge, great team effort, Chapeau👊!! Thanks for being part of this adventure🙏
Coming from my ride wanna sleep but this notification comes on I love the effort put Hank but we can't deny Mark the credit. It was a great one
Thanks, Oliver! Enjoy the film!
Congrats on the achievement. I follow Hank on GCN and am always amazed how he keeps such a positive and supportive dialogue during the sprints...an incredible athelete and person! WTF on the Thumbs Down people?
"Hank’s Toughest Challenge" - title of every 1 out of 10 GCN videos :-D
Man keeps one-upping himself, so it makes sense! lol
You guys never fail to inspire people and break the understanding of what is possible. You don't wear capes, but you're our cycling heroes....
Hank status:
☐ Broken
☑ Still unbroken
Gotta try even harder, GCN!
We're running out of ideas! How can we break him?!
@@gcn Turn around an go back... but seriously, that was a hell of an effort.
@@gcn well there is that ultra endurance race across Europe...
@@gcn When we're all travelling again... One I've seen done once before by a group of good amateur riders. Melbourne Cricket Ground to Adelaide Oval - as close to the coast as possible - 4 riders , 3 sunrises. All riding, not relay style. No support. Start the as the dawn is coming up on the end of 48 hours-ish. Almost exactly 1000km. Sights include the MCG, The Great Ocean Road, the Otway Ranges, Warnambool (end of the worlds second oldest continually held bike race, the Melbourne to Warnambool), the forest country of Western Victoria, Mount Gambier, The Limestone Coast (loads of wind!), The Coorong, Lakes Albert and Alexandrina (more wind!), the Adelaide Hills then the drop into Adelaide. A proper lads & ladies weekend away really!
@@gcn iditabike in Alaska
I’m sure that you did but I just didn’t want this to end, you could make this into a full length feature film! The countryside, the little snippets that we got were absolutely brilliant. Thanks for all your hard work
You guys helped me get into cycling!
I love it!
Awesome to hear! That's why we do what we do. Thanks for the support!
Driver praising and backing Hank in the end was soo pleasing to watch❤️... team work 💪🏼
Do you guys just have editorial meetings where they sit around and think "how can we torture Hank this time?"
Whoever was on the music!!! Bravo!!! Made it all the more epic!!!
Hank: "it's been pretty emotional". Well, he should know it's also very emotional to view.
Great team work. Awesome realisation, and perfect soundtrack choices.
Probably the most epic GCN video indeed. Thanks for sharing such things.
What an awesome effort from Mark & Hank, but it would not have been possible without everyone from the drivers, nutrition specialist through to the paramedic.
A great team performance.
The way Laura was looking after them, it felt like she was genuinely worried about them, I can feel the warmth from here
Without her - they simply wouldn't have completed this challenge.
The word Awesome is often over-used. Here it is appropriate. That was Awesome. An amazing achievement, congratulations to both riders and the support team. Phenomenal.
Awesome effort by Hank, Mark and the whole team. Come and ride the length of New Zealand when you can.
We'd love to send Hank (our own Hobbit) to NZ!
This brought me to tears. Thank you for inspiring me, us.
Credit to the GCN editing team for the night scenes. They felt so much like overnight randonneuring.
WoW great effort Hank and Mark and your support team. Epic.
YOU CANT DESTROY "HANK THE TANK!"
We're going to keep trying!
@@gcn and now the same thing, but solo, non-stop and unsupported, please... )
Hank, Mark - the two of you literally inspire me to do things on the bike I never thought possible. The words you speak in these films echo in my mind when the going gets tough and it pulls me through. Legends.
Well done everyone. I hope Hank's dad is proud, and everyone else's dad too!
Outstanding guys. Well done brilliant effort and great viewing. Good job GCN. I’m an ex Pat living in Florida. Great to see good old Scottish weather and the familiar sights on the A9 🇬🇧🇬🇧👌
Epic 🙌🙌
Isn't it?!
The music, the camera angles, thanks for sharing this epic ride. I'm new to the sport but this gives me great motivation to get in the miles on the bike
Tonight..
We tried to kill Hank.
We tried to kill Hank!
Oh, hi Mark!
TH-cam at it's best!! What a film - thanks guys (from a self supported LEJoG rider) 😍
