I had a 1996 300ex I loved that thing. To use reverse you need to push a little button by the clutch and then pull in the clutch and pull up the lever on the left side.
Great machines. Mine is an 02 and my dad and I have ran the hell out of it. Still original top and bottom end. We haven’t even taken the engine apart, and it starts on the 1st or 2nd spin every time.
I've got the 84 trx 200 ,thing is bullet proof, I use it all the time ,I live in a small town so I run it around town to buy groceries, beer ,parts ,visit friends ,fishing and camping.
These are some of the most versatile quads around. They can be made to be some pretty decent XC racers. When you order the new piston grab an 11:1 JE or Wiseco and that bad boy will come alive. You can also do the reverse mod so you don't have to mess with the button on the bars.
If its flooded, hold throttle wide open to clear it out, will probably let it start easier. Sounds pretty good. Definitely needs broke in.chromolly ring take forever to seat.
that was quick work of getting Q’s 007 Smoke Screen fired up. I highly suggest installing Kentucky air conditioning in your garage/shop/lab…one or two decent exhaust fans high on the rear wall will help, especially with a garage door opened up 10-18”, and the pipe pointed toward the rear. I know it’s cold most months out there, but we’d rather see you chilly, than lifeless. is there a dedicated site that you sell your repaired toys on?
at least i can watch yout videos on fixing and riding thing because in my country it's so hard to find a good deal i'm looking for a dirtbike for almost 3 years stiil riding my 50cc moped
When I was in college I bought a very built 300EX for 800 bucks nice bike it was 30 over stage 3 cam and jets 13 to 1 compression on 100 octane race fuel fmf header and pipe lowered and extended 1 inch only problem no Kickstart only Electric and I'm not sure if it had an auto compression release or not it burnt starters up constantly i bump started it as much as I could to save starters lol but she was fast!!!
Hey bud just a couple tips for ya . We have owned a family run engine machine shop for 40 years now . Reusing rings is a bad idea . And that cylinder should be bored and a new piston and rings purchased. Honing that cylinder and using used parts is like reusing a rubber , not a great idea lol . For the couple hundred bucks to buy a piston and have it bored right is worth it . Then you know what you have. It’s not unheard of to reuse a piston and clean up a cylinder and install new rings . But what your working on is failure . It got hot enough to melt the piston and it stuck to the cylinder. Reusing rings is not feasible at all . Rings form them selfs to the cylinder. Reusing is like round hole square peg . If you going to start doing engine work buy yourself a sunnen an hone for bigger stuff and a jr for little guys . You can buy both used for about a grand plus stones . These are what we use on the machines and buy hand with a 1/2 drill motor witch would be perfect for you . You can knock out cylinders in 20 minutes and make the perfect. The spring loaded hones are garbage. You can make your money back fast with a real setup . Buy that gear and a nice set of used mics and your making money and your cylinders are perfect every time.
I tried sending you pics of what you need it doesn’t let me . But you want a sunnen an hone and a jr hone . Start looking into it and if you need help let me know . Well worth the investment bud
The rings being stuck and worn for sure. The scored piston and cylinder are bad too. Surprised it ran as well as it did with only 95 psi compression, bad rings, piston, and cylinder. As far as the valves go. Previous owner either never actually set the valve clearance, or has no idea how to do it properly. I have a 2003 Honda 300EX and it handles great, very reliable, and fun to ride.
N easy tech tip is, other than obviously using piston to push rings down for gap. But also put rings in and hold cylinder up to light and look for light between rings and cylinder which will tell ya cylinder is out of round.
Ive worked on all kinds of makes and model,s of ATV,s and what disturbs me the most is how rinky dinky some valves adjust, the newer stuff use,s roller rockers on the valve stem
Why not? He obviously does it for no reason at all. Regardless of the amount, it's not needed if using gaskets. He uses it with gaskets! That is actually actually crazy!
Ive only ridden the 250xs before but I here they do run better then a 300ex stock for stock. 250x has higher compression higher rev limiter and is lighter. It would be sweet to see a race and really compare the too.
So I have a question about dirtbikes. I have a kx100 that im putting a top end on and the connecting rod bearing on the crankshaft end has some up and down play, a decent amount. If I didnt replace the crankshaft how long would the bike run with that play?
My 02 300 ex doesn't have the headlight housing 🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️ The spark plug in my 300 ex is fouled out and black also. Does that mean my heads are gone and need to be replaced? Also when my four wheeler turns over. It doesn't sound rough.
What's it mean if there is carbon build up under the valves where the plug and gas meet the piston and exhaust? I had 10 pounds of compression. It started smoking real bad and died ran good before that happened.
With my T250J , l had a mate go to Hardware store pick up a reverse extractor bit , & l use a nail punch to make a point then use a small drill bit to drill it out then repeat with larger drill bit & then use extractor with adjustable spanner to remove it. , luck was on my side , l had hardly any tools , no fancy workshop just learned as l go Used a mattress to lay my bike on that's the way we did it in the 70's Now if it is Rusty heat the area & with Mulgrips really tight turn it left & right until it loosens & it should unscrew ( hopefully)😳
Hii there I got a dacar quade bike it's a 200cc I need some help here the water from my radiator is pushing n going straight to my overflow bottle wt can I try to fix the problem thanks 💯
Are the rocker arms supposed to have a little side to side play on this model? i went to adjust my sisters valves, but they were tight. The only problem i found was that the rocker arms move slightly from side to side.
I was wondering if you guy’s could help me out I have a 2008 Kawasaki kfx 450 but you turn it on and it will idle for a little then turn off but you can still drive it but you have to give it a lot off gas and when the quad gets hot it doesn’t want to turn on and it also boggs down and turns off when you shift it from 2nd to 1st gear
Who has owned a Honda 300ex? How do you like it?
Love it pal I had one of these back in the day pal
Lovin what you do I watch all your videos pal

@@jaydenrobertson5061 yeah I found that out later in the video haha.
I currently have a 2000 300ex it’s amazing just the starter is starting to go and makes a funny noise got some stuff to make top end power boost
Super easy to work on these. Wish Honda would make the 300/400ex again. Someone ran the hell out of this one which is typical.
Yeah so easy to work on!
I work at the plant in South Carolina where they are made I’m hoping they bring them back too

Oh no way!!? There's a reverse mod so you don't have to hit the button on the bars?? Can you please explain more??!
I remember i used to look at them by the honda dealer in town here back around 95. Wanted one bad they looked so bad ass
If its flooded, hold throttle wide open to clear it out, will probably let it start easier. Sounds pretty good. Definitely needs broke in.chromolly ring take forever to seat.
My buddy used to own 94 300ex it was so reliable and so much fun to ride
I like that you actually describe what you're doing and reasons.
Don't u love how "don't know what's wrong with it and holds it wide fkn open" ..lol
it's not as bad as it was, looks like the seafoam is working, but it won't cure all the ring problems, your doing a grand job
Yeah it was working but it couldn't fix it completely.
The way u explain it make so much sense to me

Great work on the video's. Would be nice to find a bigger garage near a testing area, then it would save you from bringing them to your parents place.

Yeah they have tons of power
Good job bro. you are great at fixing these things.
had a 93 300ex great bike only complaint i had was no back up start electric only
Yeah that is a bummer
I love it when people use RTV like GLUE. My goodness.

I had a atc200x that smoked like that…..we never had to worry about mosquitoes!
Haha yeah I bet not!
Try mixing seafoam& Marvel mystery oil together as your stuck oil. Ring cleaner solution problem solver.
you should try to find a yz85 or something similar that needs work
I have another dirt bike project coming

I'm fixing up a 250x right now. That would be a good race!
Stock vs stock the 250X was 2mph faster.
Mornin’ bro.
My last ATV was an old 1997 Suzuki Quadrunner 160 that I sold to North Georgia Speedway
Can't wait to see the 250x video 😀
@18:01 You found another 4 stroke that wants to be a 2 stroke 🤣
Didn’t know they made a 300 ex madness
You should do a full racing build series on it
Your a talented young man!
Get a cheap tarp or bed sheet to cover stuff you don't want us to see. Or plastic for painting, you can get a lot pretty cheap
i really like your videos ,very informative
Don’t pump the throttle on the 250x or 300ex they have an accelerator pump in the carburetor you will flood them every time.
Nice video, enjoy watching your fixes👍
Those rings will seat, thats normal to have if theyre new rings. B12 Chemtool even some marvel mystey oil down it's throat. Big difference.
the piston melted like that because the bore is not round
you can put a new piston in it and it will do the same thing
Your gonna need a bigher garage for all your projects dude..or just open up a cycle shop..
Working on getting a bigger building
Brings back memories! 300ex

The Rod is different and so is the crank. The 300 has a longer stroke on the crank, which is also why it has a shorter rod.
I've had 3 of them, fun little machines!
Yes they are!
Been looking to get one of them!!
You the man. 🤘👍🤙
I’ve got a 96 300ex and I need front and rear plastics and a air box and lid
I have a couple of Arctic cat four wheelers that need work if you would be interested
This looks interesting, gl to cing u fixing it!🙏🤯👍🙏👍👍💪
You should do a Collection video an you should get a Polaris 3 wheeler or a tiger 500
Suppose to put a really thin layer of silent on the head .If not it throws off the tolerances off on the cam ,and it will eat everything up on the top
Yep
Hey 2vintage, considering your experience wrenching on bikes, how would you deal with stripped bolts on a crankcase?
With my T250J , l had a mate go to
Hardware store pick up a reverse
extractor bit , & l use a nail punch to
make a point then use a small drill
bit to drill it out then repeat with
larger drill bit & then use extractor
with adjustable spanner to remove
it. , luck was on my side , l had
hardly any tools , no fancy workshop
just learned as l go
Used a mattress to lay my bike on
that's the way we did it in the 70's
Now if it is Rusty heat the area &
with Mulgrips really tight turn it
left & right until it loosens & it
should unscrew ( hopefully)😳

Are the rocker arms supposed to have a little side to side play on this model? i went to adjust my sisters valves, but they were tight. The only problem i found was that the rocker arms move slightly from side to side.
Yeah a little play
Mine did.
Those sound like quadrunners lots of stuff from 250s and 300s swap thank goodness, cause most if that stuff has been rendered obsolete.
Smokes like an old ford 😂😂
Gonna need new valve tappet screws before long theyre bout down to unservicable leves.
Loved mine!
I wonder if you can get a big boar kit for the 300ex like the 400ex a cheap piston and cylinder kit
I literally just though off that piston and cylinder off a 400ex elwould do it most probs
Yeah I think you can
I'd do a leak down test on the valves
U got migs lil breeze quad
When you see gobs of gasket maker it’s never a good sign.
That piston is junk wut do you mean it was saveable
My 06 trx300ex starts and goes through all gears but won’t drive any advice?
bad clutch.

Prairie 650

Run some marvel mystery oil into the cylinder let it set for two days. Then retry it out.
So exactly what is mineral oil gonna do? That's all it is...
2:00 why?
Don’t look at the late 80’s Honda fourtrax 250x??
Oh no , it has orange goo . Never a good sign .

You have got a high and a low compression pistons it may hit the head
Won't hit the head. Will be closer though.
Long rod more tork ,short rod more rpm more hp
Reverse lever??
