    "Tiiiiiiiiin roof.......rusted!"
Great seeing you enjoying it! When this came out, I don't care where it played...in the living room, in the car, at the bar...it was a PARTY! They were sort of an underground New Wave band from the late 70s all the way through the 80s. Anyone who liked quirky, absurd, in your face music had a crush on them but they remained commercially obscure. Cosmic Thing which is the album this was on was their mainstream breakthrough.

Yes, she replaced founding member Ricky Wilson & brother of Cindy (the blonde singer) , when he passed away in 1985. I don't know if people got the message of her being in the bathtub scene. We used to say "Baby, you so fine, I'd drink your bathwater!" In the scene you can see someone ladling her bathwater into a Martini glass. I always loved that saying & the video's reference to it. Personally, I've never done it cause while it sounds interesting "ON PAPER" in real life that would be gross AF, mostly cause drinking soapy water is foul. LOL!! 😆😆

Hell yeah, B-52's! Never was, nor will be a better party band! They came out of the Athens, GA music scene in the late 70's, but this album is their first big mainstream hit. There was a fifth member, Ricky Wilson (brother of the blond woman in red in the video, Cindy), who was the original guitar player and who died of AIDS in 1985. Kieth Strickland, who you see playing guitar in the video was originally the drummer, and Ricky's best friend from childhood. The band members were grief stricken after Ricky's death and went on hiatus until 1989 when they came back with this very autobiographical album. "Deadbeat Club" tells their story the best and was another hit off this album, along with "Roam". Earlier hits when Ricky was still alive included "Rock Lobster" (another party waiting to happen, but much more simple and raw than this), "Song for a Future Generation" (also a fun video), and "Planet Claire" and "Private Idaho". There's a good documentary on the Athens, GA music scene from that late 70's to mid-80's time period that's worth a watch, called 'Athens, GA: Inside/Out'. The B-52's only appear in it a little, but R.E.M. make several appearances. Thanks! Look forward to more B-52's!
    Peace from SF

The B-52s ( Fifty Twos like the bomber ) wore a very fun group. I enjoyed listening to them on the radio and even have a couple of albums (vinyl). If you thought that was fun check out "Rock Lobster". It's as crazy as it sounds and definitely one of my favorites. They experimented a lot with beat changes, off timing and sound effect both instrumental and vocal.

We used dance our heads off to The B52'S in the clubs. "Cosmic Thing" was their first commercial success and put them on the map. Unfortunately, after this album was made, Ricky Wilson, the young guy with guitar, passed away and sent the group into a tailspin. Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson and Ricky's sister, Cindy Wilson, the blond singer, still occasionally perform. You need to check out their earlier music.

The Chrysler reference made me laugh. When I was a kid our parents used to give us the most gigantic sturdy (safe) old cars they could find for our first cars. We could pile about 12 of us into my friend's old T-Bird.

My first car was an auctioned off ex police car, back when they used the old Caprice boats. My parents figured it would be safer in a crash, but totally forgot that it was once a chase vehicle with a v-10 engine and they were handing the keys to a dumb teenager haha
I didn't break too many speed limits, but I did used to pile friends in the backseat and laugh at them when they couldn't open the back doors.

The band takes its name from a variation of the beehive hairstyle that they'd wear, that takes name from Boeing's B-52 (fifty-two) bomber planes of the 1950s and 1960s. The particular 'do resembles the nose cone of the plane.
"Tin roof... rusted" doesn't mean anything. It's like when Queen sang "fried chicken" at the end of "One Vision".
And yes, this is one of the funnest songs out there.

The B-52s (Fifty-Two's, named after the US Air Force bomber, one of the most famous war planes of all time) were one of my favorite 80s groups...a unique combination of 80s new wave and 50s and 60s dance pop. And they always wore some of the most fun clothes in their videos and live performances.
