Hell yeah, B-52's! Never was, nor will be a better party band! They came out of the Athens, GA music scene in the late 70's, but this album is their first big mainstream hit. There was a fifth member, Ricky Wilson (brother of the blond woman in red in the video, Cindy), who was the original guitar player and who died of AIDS in 1985. Kieth Strickland, who you see playing guitar in the video was originally the drummer, and Ricky's best friend from childhood. The band members were grief stricken after Ricky's death and went on hiatus until 1989 when they came back with this very autobiographical album. "Deadbeat Club" tells their story the best and was another hit off this album, along with "Roam". Earlier hits when Ricky was still alive included "Rock Lobster" (another party waiting to happen, but much more simple and raw than this), "Song for a Future Generation" (also a fun video), and "Planet Claire" and "Private Idaho". There's a good documentary on the Athens, GA music scene from that late 70's to mid-80's time period that's worth a watch, called 'Athens, GA: Inside/Out'. The B-52's only appear in it a little, but R.E.M. make several appearances. Thanks! Look forward to more B-52's! Peace from SF

The Chrysler reference made me laugh. When I was a kid our parents used to give us the most gigantic sturdy (safe) old cars they could find for our first cars. We could pile about 12 of us into my friend's old T-Bird.
My first car was an auctioned off ex police car, back when they used the old Caprice boats. My parents figured it would be safer in a crash, but totally forgot that it was once a chase vehicle with a v-10 engine and they were handing the keys to a dumb teenager haha I didn't break too many speed limits, but I did used to pile friends in the backseat and laugh at them when they couldn't open the back doors.
@@amythechocoholic5761 OMG, that is hilarious! I remember those Caprice's, they would cruise and "float" down the road like a sofa! Fun times and thanks for sharing that story! 🤣👍💯🚓
@@amythechocoholic5761 Haha! Yeah, we used to call them "boats." My first car was as old as me - a 1963 Chevy Biscayne - baby blue, lol. I loved that car and named it "Mabel." I could hardly see over the steering wheel.
Back in the 80's, whenever you were in a club and this song and/or Rock Lobster started playing you just got on that crowded dance floor and moved. Especially when Rock Lobster came on. There was a special way to dance to that.
That's a myth. Some people interpreted it that way and the rumor quickly spread that that was what it meant. But the band explained in an interview that it was just a completely random thing and had no hidden meaning.
Thanks. I've never been able to make that out. I thought she was possibly saying "Tanned and rested." Which for some reason remember being said about President Nixon at one time.
Omg have loved these guys for decades, I was like 18 when I first heard them. More songs from them rock lobster, planet claire, private idaho, give me back my man or roam. So glad to see you enjoying one of the best groups of the 80's, your awesome thx...♡
@ted ritola yup I think they formed in like 75 or 76 and I remember rock lobster being played in clubs at the very end of the 70's when people were still figuring out if they liked their music or not but they got really popular in the 80's and I think most people would call them an 80's band because that's when they hit the mainstream plus they released a whole bunch of music in the 80's ...♡
I learned about the B52’s in 1981 at the age of 14 and I love them still. Such a fun group and Love Shack is just one of those songs you can’t help but dance/ shake too. I was fortunate to see them at least once in 1998(?) In Stateline (Nevada). They were amazing! Sounded like I remembered and during “Rock Lobster”( a song you should check out) I b left my lodge seat and went to the floor (no chairs standing room) to “participate” in dance with the others. I had such a great time and hell Of the hangover the following morning, but I will never forget it
And after you have heard a good amount of the B-52's, you have to listen to DEVO....you'll freak! Listen to "Whip It", "i Can't Get No Satisfaction" "Girl U Want", "Freedom of Choice"
Ha Ha!! Luv it!! Hubs used to have an old 1972 Caddy that would sleep 6 in the trunk alone! Everytime we went somewhere we would sing " ..I got me a car & it's as big as a WHALE!!.." Lol~ :)
They were a fun band. I saw them 3 times in concert. I won't say the most talented band I've ever seen but definitely the most fun I've ever had at a concert. You need to do more Billy Joel. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant or Angry Young Man (crazy piano in this one.)
All their songs are fun. They are an amazing group with their own sound that is immediately recognizable. YOU MUST LISTEN to "Rock Lobster" and "Private Idaho"!!! and 52 Girls!

My first was a '78 Lincoln Continental. It was a damn battleship! I could park in three parking spaces at the same time.
Yeah😆 Not a 2 seater but a land yaught....The Chrysler whale...seats 8 comfortably on 2 sofas.😆😂😎😆😆😎
Back in the 80's, whenever you were in a club and this song and/or Rock Lobster started playing you just got on that crowded dance floor and moved. Especially when Rock Lobster came on. There was a special way to dance to that.
Next stop... Roam around the world
Man "Roam" sets me free since '89, and especially in COVID!
My favorite thing about this song is that everyone is having fun.
She said ... " Tin roof - rusted ! " which means she is pregnant !
For the record, I heard her tell the story in an interview about 10 years ago. I think she said it is a " Southern" expression.
Yes it is. Mississippi girl here
That's a myth. Some people interpreted it that way and the rumor quickly spread that that was what it meant. But the band explained in an interview that it was just a completely random thing and had no hidden meaning.
Thanks. I've never been able to make that out. I thought she was possibly saying "Tanned and rested." Which for some reason remember being said about President Nixon at one time.
darlene cheatham : how is it used? My tin roof is rusted? Or pointing at a pregnant woman and saying it?
This song is cool, but i love "private Idaho" and "legal tender"
Legal Tender is a great song and has a really fun video too.
Please do Private Idaho!!
Party Out of Bounds is an excellent choice as well
@@itscrazyal suuuurrrprise! ☺

Don't forget to Whip It, Whip It good!
Devo is amazing!! Yes!
Ha Ha!! Luv it!! Hubs used to have an old 1972 Caddy that would sleep 6 in the trunk alone! Everytime we went somewhere we would sing " ..I got me a car & it's as big as a WHALE!!.." Lol~ :)
Caddies were the best for Drive-In movies.. Could smuggle all sorts of people/party goods in the trunk! LOLZ! 🍻🥂🥳🚗
@@jankypop-a-matic58 😂As long as the Drive In was just down the road~ that bitch got about 8 miles to the gallon!
@@jankypop-a-matic58 Absolutely~ Ha ha!
If I recall, they were from Athens, GA. The line about "Riding down the Atlanta Highway" kinda refers to this.
"Roam" was their second hit check it out of the future rock and roll hall of famers.
The B-52's -- After "Rock Lobster", check out "Planet Claire", "Lava", "Private Idaho", "Give Me Back My Man" ...
There fun songs from the 70s
How could you not comment on how amazing those ladies voices are in this song? They are incredible. Iconic harmonies too.
Jayvee: This a fun song. What can I say? It’s fun....
But I’ll never buy a Chrysler. Worst car ever........🤣
They were a fun band. I saw them 3 times in concert. I won't say the most talented band I've ever seen but definitely the most fun I've ever had at a concert. You need to do more Billy Joel. Scenes from an Italian Restaurant or Angry Young Man (crazy piano in this one.)
Right?? I was lmao when he said that!!!!
All their songs are fun. They are an amazing group with their own sound that is immediately recognizable. YOU MUST LISTEN to "Rock Lobster" and "Private Idaho"!!! and 52 Girls!
@@marshallmom1962 Yeah I love that his one complaint was that it's the wrong type of car. XD
I love your genuine comments and reaction. I can tell you appreciate good music. The 52s are one of my favorite band of all times.
It’s B fifty-twos. And she said “tin roof! Rusted!”
Hey, J. I was delighted to come to your channel today & see that you listened to 'Love Shack' for the first time! Glad you love it. Next, please react to 'Rock Lobster.'
Love the B-52s They are such a fun group and also this is my 10 year old granddaughters favorite song,so I listen to it a lot but so glad she loves an 80s classic!
When I was younger, this was the only song you could get me on the dance floor with!!! 💕💕💕
It was a fun song, this gives me memories of me and my kids dancing when they were little. Now they would probably deny doing that LOL
i was a young teen when i first heard this song. a stunning german hippy back packer was staying at our place. on this morning the news told us the berlin wall was being demolished. she was so emotional and desperately wanted to be home to celebrate, but she was with us in australia. we changed the channel to the weekend morning music program and this song started, we all danced with her in excitement of her returning to a whole new germany when she went home. this song is my favorite celebration song
The only music video that starts out with a goat butt!!! Something for everyone 😜🐐
Love love love this song...always makes me want to dance...I'm 70y young
