Lyrics:
If you see a faded sign at the side of the road that says
"15 miles to the
Love Shack"
Love Shack, yeah, yeah
I'm headin' down the Atlanta highway
Lookin' for the love getaway
Headed for the love getaway
I got me a car that's as big as a whale
And we're headin' on down to the Love Shack
I got me a Chrysler that seats about 20
So hurry up and bring your jukebox money
The love shack is a little old place where we can get together
Love Shack, baby (a-Love Shack, baby)
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
(Love, baby, that's where it's at)
Sign says (woo!), "Stay away, fools
'Cause love rules at the Love Shack"
Well, it's set way back in the middle of a field
Just a funky old shack and I gotta get back
Glitter on the mattress
Glitter on the highway
Glitter on the front porch
Glitter on the highway
The Love Shack is a little old place where we can get together
Love Shack, baby (Love Shack, baby)
Love Shack, that's where it's at
Love Shack, that's where it's at
Huggin' and a-kissin'
Dancin' and a-lovin'
Wearin' next to nothin'
'Cause it's hot as an oven
The whole shack shimmies
When everybody's movin' around
And around and around and around
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin', baby
Folks linin' up outside just to get down
Everybody's movin', everybody's groovin', baby
Funky little shack
Funky little shack
Hop in my Chrysler, it's as big as a whale and it's about to set sail
I got me a car, it seats about 20
So come on and bring your jukebox money
The Love Shack is a little old place where we can get together
Love Shack, baby (a-Love Shack, baby)
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
(Love, baby, that's where it's at)
Bang, bang, bang on the door, baby
Knock a little louder, sugar
Bang, bang, bang on the door, baby
I can't hear you
Bang, bang on the door, baby
Bang, bang on the door
Bang, bang on the door, baby
Bang, bang
Your what?
Tin roof, rusted
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack (Love, baby, that's where it's at, yeah)
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack (Love, baby, that's where it's at)
Love Shack, baby, Love Shack
Huggin' and a-kissin'
Dancin' and a-lovin'
At the Love Shack

Getaway
We played this song at my auntie’s funeral since it was one of her favourite songs. She and my dad would always dance to it at weddings whenever they had the chance. It’s a strange song to play at a funeral, but I’ve never seen so many happy faces at a funeral. People started laughing as soon as they heard it because they knew it was her song. I think it just reminded everyone of how great my auntie was, she really was one of a kind, just like this song.
It would be nice if funerals could become more of a celebration of ones life.
@@Sassyglbeauty yes this definitely was that! It was really beautiful to see people celebrating her life more than mourning her death
I love that. That's such a nice thought. Everyone will smile when they remember that.
This is a really beautiful post. What more wonderful celebration of her life than to have everyone dancing and smiling while her favorite song played.

Thanks to everyone who keeps the b52s legacy Alivie my mother is a distant relative of Ricky and cindy🎵❤
their voices do blend together so well. what I think makes the B-52s so good is that you hear they are having fun and that puts you in a good mood. I love deep serious bands like Radiohead too but when I'm in the mood to party I'd rather listen to Love Shack than Street Spirit. Music is a very emotional thing and I think depending on how you are feeling at the time you will want to hear different styles. It's like with movies. Comedy movies almost never win as many awards as heavy dramas but that doesn't mean they aren't artistically just as good
I’m 53 years old and have been listening to the B-52’s since I was about 16 years old. I was today years old when I realized that RuPaul was in this video. 😮
I just came to see Rupaul due to seeing a article on Facebook. Never noticed she was in the video before x
I read that RuPaul was in this video so I had to rewatch to check it out and lo and behold.😂
Yes came here looking for her😂
I was just looking at the Wikipedia page for Rupaul and it said she was in this music video so I had to check it out
I recently watched a documentary about Ru and I'd forgotten he's in this, too. I'm 56 and this was one of my favorite songs in college.
I don't understand how anyone could resist the urge to sing along to the "bang, bang on the door baby" part.
👍🌝
Bang Bang!! yup
Tbh id sing along the whole song if id memorized the lyrics.
Honnn route - rustling!
Easy
What i love the most about the B-52s is that you can actually PHYSICALLY HEAR them having fun while performing! Like you can "hear" them smiling through their vocals! The way they enunciate words and harmonize wouldn't sound like it does if they weren't opening their mouths the shape of a smile
What a good band and how fantastic most of their catalog is, a true gem that will never age poorly

The thing that I love about the B-52s is that on all the recordings, videos, and even live, they seem to be having the most fun of anybody there, which really translates into the feel of their music. If you look at Fred throughout this entire video, he's dancing, making fun faces, and basically having a blast, even when he's just kinda in the background. The most fun band ever, by far.
HardBoiled
LOL! To see them having such a ball...it's CONTAGIOUS!
I couldn't agree more! Love Fred.
You should check out Voice of the Beehive. Another 80s band that, unfortunately, never made it as big.

Happy Tune. I love the Girls Smiles.
Well it's a Love Shack 😘 Baby 🤣
It makes me happy to read all the happy comments as I listen to this happy song!
To say I grew up to this song is an understatement.
My mom has a video of me dancing to this as a baby, in her arms, and pumping my little fist. I kept dancing to it whenever it came on the radio as a toddler. I learned the lyrics by heart around ten years old. I saw them in concert with my mom when I was around 15 years old and had a blast. I played it at my wedding and my mom and I dominated the dance floor.
Nowadays, I have to stop everything that I'm doing to dance, sing, and truly appreciate this song for what it's worth! Love this band!
I used the sing the end of the song when I was at my dad's (or so he's told me), the “bang bang bang”.
My four year old is having a little dance as we speak ❤️🙌🙌
Mom's know best
This song was on my little tykes toy piano.
Holy shit I'm sorry to Glaze here, but what a Legendary story, I do have a similar story but to a MUCH lesser effect. That being said I LOVE this so much, growing up with this as you stated is still an understatement, I'm happy you shared this story with us, it's genuinely beautiful.
Just occurs to me, the B-52s really book-ended the 80s - - Rock Lobster at the beginning, and Love Shack at the end, with tons of awesomeness in between.
the only thing good about the 80s.
The entire album was another case of greatness coming out of tragedy. When original guitar/founder Ricky Wilson died of AIDS in 1986, that was it. The new guitarist who was the original drummer and Ricky's best friend, brought the band back together to start writing some new songs. They went to woodstock where they said many days they all just talked and was part of the healing process. What came of it was Cosmic Thing. Featuring other great songs like Dead Beat Club (one of my favorite songs of all time) Cosmic Thing, Channel Z, along with Roam and Love Shack. The album is a masterpiece and so uplifting.
What a pretty woman ,hello darling ?
@@MrWierchawsky Don't be a creep
These are songs of my youth… Sad about Ricky… Devastated, the band went into seclusion and did not tour to promote the album, though they did several photo shoots and TV appearances and filmed a video for "Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland". That’s a nice mark of respect for him. These were a great band

This is one of those songs that I don't hear too often so it immediately takes me right back to my 20s. Best decade ever.
One of the many reasons why I am so interested in this band is the female vocals: so full of their own personality

I have always loved 😍 🥰 this song 🎵 ❤️. It makes me feel like dancing and just moving!!!!!
The 1980s was a fun time to be alive. The 2020's not so much.
Absolutely correct
You got that right😊
Every generation has contrasting stuff. The 80s had some epic music & movies but also had the advent of HIV/AIDS (which killed the B-52s' original guitarist, Ricky Wilson) which was ignored by Reagan & led to long-term ostracism of victims, the funding of murderous militias throughout Central America, & some of the highest homicide rates in US history.
How did HIV make the homicide rate go up? Are you confusing homicide with the number of deaths in general? /No sarcasm
Musically it’s weird in 2020
People just having fun. We need this again in 2020.

My son was "concieved" to this song! 22yo today and he's grown into an awesome young man! I love him so much!
It’s funny you say that cuz my oldest was conceived to Love and Rockets song So Alive! Only way I knew was cuz my girlfriend said she felt this weird tingling inside and sure enough a couple weeks later she told me she was pregnant. I’m 51 now and we’ve been together since I was 16. 3 grown kids and 2 grandsons now. Man how our lives fly by. I miss the late 80’s early 90’s. These days sadly don’t even compare!!!
Is his tin roof rusted?😅
Were you drunk at a party??🤔
I bought me car as big as a whale, and it's about to set sail. Lyrical genius. Excellent song writing too.
Neither cars nor whales set sail
@stuwest3653 Those old Chryslers and Imperials were "Land Cruisers" and they were metaphorically as big as whles and they were quite like sailing on the highway.
This and Dee Lite’s groove is in the heart are both serious nostalgic grooves
Groove is in the heart, I feel, was really the last great 80's pop dance song. I know it wasn't released until 1990, but it clearly has that 80's style and was wrote and recorded in that decade. After that it was more songs more like snap's the power, or everybody dance now (cnc music factory), that style that kind of replaced that kind of music. I think it was called eurodance. Which I also dug, but I feel far more nostalgic for 80's pop than anything.
I had to edit this because I mentioned a song that was actually from the 80's, buffalo stance by neneh cherry. Was released in 1988, but is a clear precursor to the 90's eurodance.
Welcome back to the 80's, for all of you who missed it, I feel for you.

Who’s Fred? That’s John Mulaney on lead vocals
That's what I've always loved about them. One person can have a whole song, take turns, back the other, or hang back and dance. No egos. I also really respect Cindy for taking time off for family and the band supporting her. They're coming up on 45 years and still doing things together.

I think why this song is so good and well done and unique because before they hit it big with this they were pretty much an underground band or at least was seen as such even though they were signed with a major label for a decade. They never buckled to their managements advice to be a certain way with their music. They always were weird, unique, knew what they were doing, and just plain fun. Plus, you can clearly see they are enjoying themselves - it's not a dance that was practiced 10,000x times and became a chore - she really looks like she is just in the moment.Never noticed that 25 yrs ago :)
My daughter and I love this, many mornings on our drive to her school. Her taste in music is superb
😂
Me and my 5yo son love it too! Get ready for school happy dance energizer... btw im daddy
this made me tear up and I don't know why lol
Can’t stop hearing Andrew from big mouth in this song
Omg lmaoo 😭💀😂
Bruh I was thinking I recognised it now you said it I can never listen to this song the same again 😂😂😂
BHAHAHAHHAHA PLEASEEEE
I was thinking the same thing!!!!
Omg thank god I’m not the only one! Every time I hear it on tik tok I think it’s John mullaney so I looked it up to prove to myself it’s not😭😂
The world was introduced to Ru Paul at 2:05, and was never the same again! What a great song, and and great band. My sister has tickets to see their final tour this fall. I'm so jealous.
Hes so gorgeous here too! incredible omg
Was RuPaul the person in the pinwheel hat?
@@Hannah-t5z There's a good shot of him at 1:51. He's not wearing a hat, he has a white top on.
@@Hannah-t5zNo the "lady" in white on right.
I love Kate, her voice is amazing. She is pretty fine to look at as well. She was 41 when this song was released but looks in her 20's.
Gdo yeah And I'm still MAD about her VOICE!.
met her and the band about a year or so ago, she is amazing, beautiful and very nice, and sang great and rocked out.
She was pretty in this video cbut I never thought she looked in her 2o's in this video. I always thought she looked in her early forties in this video and it turned out she was lol. Can't fool me with good make up. And the extremely high bouffant hair ages anyone.
Kate can drive me into her Love Shack any day of the week
Cindy also looks great 💗
Who’s listening this song in 2024? Alguém ouvindo esta música em 2024 🇵🇹🇧🇷?
The legendary queen that is the phenomenal RuPaul at 2:05. B-52’s knew what’s up long time ago featuring that icon! 👏🏼
No freak degenerate is what you intended
Wait...that's RuPaul? I had no idea
@@jasonhaynes2952Yes
Yes !
It’s on his IMDB trivia.
Ahhhh the Summer of 89'...8 years old, going to Disney World for the first time, Bobby Brown blowing up the pop charts, ALF on tv in the evenings right after The Hogan Family...THIS video on MTV... And of course BATMAN!
Close enough to be a 90s song
We're the last of generation X, before the millennials ruined everything!
Noone will understand low budget movies with big actors, like we do.
A golden era, gone but not forgotten.
I had just graduated high school and was starting college. This was a HUGE part of the soundtrack for that entire year.
IT'S THE LOVESHACK
So was I! I also posted this comment on "Everybody Talks" because it also says "loveshack."
It's the Loveshack but on every Loveshack the Groovenians theme song plays (Ok but the joke is their both by the same group)
Don't call yourself "Dr Loveshank." You're gonna get jokes for years to come.
Yer a Dr, Jackass... get the f88k off our channel dork. call me
2875dulce rocko too
The girls vocals are so amazing. As a kid I didn't realize just how great their harmonies were..
Fred Schneider's vocals really nailed it as usual. The rest of the band nailed it one this one as well.
That’s John Mulaney
@@rtlthemusician5598no its Fred
I mainly listen to rnb, hip hop, jazz and classical and for some odd reason this song popped into my head just as I was about to go to sleep the other night around 130am. Just random. This song had not been any commercials or radio or anything that I had seen or listened to ...amazing how the brain works
The same happened to me with edwyn Collins' girl like you
Daydreaming
I'm 15, and I found out about this because of my parents. I can not be more grateful for how good of a taste in music they have!
Same my mom used ti play this all the time! If u like this, then i suggest you listen to Roam. Has the same energy in my opinion 🤷♀️
@@franciefairchild I'll check it out, thanks for telling me!
Notice RuPaul from RuPaul's Drag Race, tall black chick in white short shorts ?
@@landofthelivingskies3318 yeah lmao me and my mom used to watch RuPauls drag race years ago
@@landofthelivingskies3318 YEAH! I love RuPaul! Thank you for pointing this out!
I met Freddy in 1991 in Little Italy, Manhattan,NY & I asked for his autograph, he said "I Gotta Run Hun", still to this day The Nicest Brush Off I"ve ever Expierienced !
this is just one of those songs you can listen to over and over and never get tired of it
Vecna Song List 😁
I can't even listen all the way through once

Its 2020 and I want to hug anyone who still loves this song...
Love this song💜💜
then hug me
Don’t hug anyone because COVID-19
Hug right back babe..virtual..... X
Hug !
I grew up listening to the B52s and The Beach Boys. Really made my 28 years so far pretty chill
My girl scout troop sang to this over and over while we drove to go camping in like 1993.We were awesome.
I remember my third year of competitive dance back in '92 I ended up doing a solo to this song and I had won the highest title in my age division. Now here we are, 2016 my daughter Kaitlyn is doing her very first solo to this song!
+Jenn Miller I remember hearing this song almost every morning while getting ready for Kindergarten.
+Lisa Hughes That is so cool Lisa! Thank you for sharing!!! :)
+Lisa Hughes cool
The most 80s song ever.
It's comes damn close. You Make My Dreams is pretty 80s too. Haha
Poochie Collins that’s why it didn’t come out until 1989. It needed to absorb all the good stuff from the decade
We need to head back there to the 80s cause i try really hard to like todays music i really do ! But somethings missing. Everytime some artist does a song that sounds and feels like the 80s or even the 70s today its usually always a hit ! mmmmm I wander why?
When doves cry is #1 80s feel
@@andresgc770 hahaha (late reply ;-p)
33 years later and 19 year old me
still wants to go to that party. 🍻
you want a medal for being young and listening to this or what, try being 33 stfu
felt
You've been 19 for 33 years?
Just go to any gay party, they're all like that lol
I was 13 years old when this song blasted the MTV Airways in the summer of 1989........
Love the way the wide array of people in the club and the group are putting an "ALL are welcome!" mentality into visualization.
This song is SOOOOO much fun.
R
Robin Ann ya it's a fun song that can take u out of any depression
This song will go down in history as one of the best party songs ever written and produced. It's so TIMELESS!!!!

The whole shack shimmies when everyone's moving around, and around, and around, and around!
Kate and Cyndi have been among my favorite women for nearly 50 years. And “tin roof … rusted” is one of the coolest lyrics ever!
The girls are such underrated singers! Loud, wild, but tight! Very tight
These girls rule but the guy singing evens things out. a southern thing.

Kate Pierson released her own album in 2015.
I wouldn't fraze it like that
@Boston 508617 loose as a wizard's sleeve 😂😆
Let's be honest. This wasnt on your reccomended.
You searched this song up ;)
You got good taste in music.

One of those songs you never get tired of!
Love the random Rupaul appearance
Kate Pierson:
Bounces around with such.....enthusiasm!
2024 & it STILL hits! 🔥🔥🔥
The 80's were the absolute best for music. I'm so glad I was young in the 80's. Just the right age to appreciate ALL of it 🥳🎉
I’d be totally ok with music returning to this.
Yep. Fun moving music!
Deacon Black That’s never gonna happen unfortunately
Or radical idea. You could do it.
@@blackearl7891 thank you!!!! Geeez, its as if this generation always wants the sound back, but only ask for it, if they want it, they could make themselves. Im slowly working to make music myself from instrumentals, songwriting and singing, hope to one day be huge
Want to know how music sounds like. 70's and 80's will show you.
When I was a kid, this was my turn up song
Prophets Of Rock TV me too lol
Shortlady82
Same. Still is.
It still is my turn up song !! Get up n dance. Song !! It has that get up off ur ass. N dance. Beat !!! Lol. !! N I'm over 45 yrs old - I still. Love that song
Thank You "so much" for your story! I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember that when moments of sadness come just turn on Love Shack and happy tears will come. They are never gone as long as we remember them. We will" always remember them. Lots of Love, Colleen❤
One of my earliest memories is legitimately being mesmerized when this came on MTV as the vocals and harmonies seemed so out of this world that I couldn't get enough. I'm fairly sure it got so bad that my older sister started hiding the remotes so I couldn't tune in to the channel anymore.
me too cobber , love from australia! xoxo
I was 6-7 when this played on MTV all the time. I didn’t understand a thing but I sang along 😄
I'm a crippled up old man but when Love Shack comes up on my playlist, it makes me throw my arms up and dance in my chair. Thank you B-52's. And yeah, who doesn't have the hots for the red head. I once saw her on an episode of Victory Garden and was surprised how normal she was. I was expecting someone from Planet Claire.
She's capable of acting normal, but you see a whole different side to her on her Facebook page. That's what makes her so intriguing and entertaining. She can pull off the whole Jeckyll and Hyde act to a tee.
I love her in *Iggy Pop's* _Candy_
Maxine nightengale
are u talking about Fred??? 😒😒😒
I know what you mean. If I am at a party this song will always get me up to dance. Love it.
80's MUSIC NEVER DIES !
Eventhou this song came out in 1989, to me it has more of a 90s vibe to it.
@@vectorprime7797 You always get that cross over period in a century, You had a bunch of soon to be 90s fashion and music make it's debut late 80s lol. Look at grunge! A staple of the 90s, But you can follow it's roots back to late 80s with groups like the Pixies.
TRUEE 🙌
It just goes goes to the next generation hopefully
Thankfully, some '80s music did die.
Looking forward to this song getting One Billion Views! And yes The B-52s absolutely should be in the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame!
