Welcome back mate. I de-trained for 3 months due to workload & family albeit i still tried to run a weekly mileage of 20+ km per week. Since last month, I did 40+ km/ week of Base mileage. I have to admit I am glad to see someone in the same shoes. Going to increase 10 km+ per week till I hit my previous usual mileage of 80km. So glad to have you back.
Awesome! Welcome back to the grind. It was refreshing to get back to it. I really focused on core , diet and getting rest. I was also surprised to see my body get sore and fatigue after the time off because I remember the long long runs of 2.5-3 hour s and the rebounding from workouts just fine . But the bar moves quick and is humbling . Glad we are back at it
I would say the 2 for 1 is pretty accurate. I had to take off almost 5 months for an injury. I'm in month 4 of my return to running weekly mileage is still low..under 30 but I'm about at @ 10:45ish zone 2 easy pace when at peak fitness I was at 9 min pace. Glad to see your back out there crushing it for all of us midlifers🤘
I loved this video. Spoken word, a little stream of consciousness, funny faces while running. However long the edit took you it was well worth the time. “Subdied” 😂😂😂
Returned to running after being unable to run for the past 35 yr. Been about 2 month now and I am loving it. My first 5km was 47 mins, which I was shocked at. I was such a good runner before my injuries to my legs so thought I would have done a better time than 47 mins. However, am now down to just over 36 mins. If I can get to 30 mins, I will be over the moon. It’s a shame my mind is much more fitter than my old, pain ravaged body ha ha.
Welcome back! It does come back but it won’t take 70 years to come back. The ego stays amazingly fit no matter how much fitness we lose 🤣. My body was sore from easy runs that were “long runs” of 90 minutes when 3 months ago they were 3 hours . It’s wild. Glad you’re back at it !
Well done! Awesome vid, so much fun to watch you absolutely crush it in your happy place! Sidebar, and just a question, if you’re being honest, how much of your speed truly came from the disciplined consistency orrrrrrr was it the great white toque?!? I mean you were rocking the toque and you rocked the run, one can’t help to think there is 4% gain at least (!) with your toque game?!? A great season of running is a definitely afoot!!
I think you and I got overtraining syndrome about the same time.. I rested for about a month from mid sept to mid oct and had to defer Chicago. Started running again ironically that weekend of the Chicago marathon and the formula is about right…. My fitness is getting back to where it was but I think I need another week or so.
Austin international half marathon Jan 19. Just doing speed again with Coach Fox. Ends up being 50miles a week-ish which is good volume to slay a half as well. Then Boston 2025 but we are going to keep on the speed 💪🏼 so f*king jazzed for it
@@Nyelands thank you . it took a few weeks but the major symptoms subsided with complete rest . I then kept it easy and controlled the diet and got plenty of rest as I jogged a bit. Feeling much better 2 months later :)
@@realstradman excellent point - the drastically slower runs were more z1 near 130bpm and the vast majority were all at my MAF HR of 141, naturally slowing on the long runs because of cardiac drift. November was also a bit warm for south Texas and so naturally the pace got faster with cooler temps, hence the beanies
I am not sure what I just watched but somehow I loved every minute of it.
@@WhatMatterstoMatt thank you, Matt! Guess I’ll have to make more, much to the dismay of my wife
Shoutout to Andrew for the game plan he gave me for my first ever marathon and glad you’re back! Now let’s get sub 3!!!

Congrats on hitting the goal despite being banged up!
@@MidLifeRunner appreciate it my guy!

This is who we are now. Evo SL workout tomorrow . Sunday I got a new shoe in for a long run. Just bringing the camera every day now at this point

Gold!! 😂 good to see you back.

I needed this. Evidently my last marathon killed me… lost a ton of fitness since. Well, I’ve got 20ish weeks to find it! Lol … midlifers unite!!!

Def the toque. I’ll have to wear it all summer to prove it’s magic. Boston? Sub 2:40, assuming the toque
