      Haha yeah it's so strange, it really feels like Germany as well in Colonia Tovar. Unfortunately I can only speak a couple of words in German (didn't use my German for years)

    • @tamanako2507
      @tamanako2507 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lots of venezuelans can actually speak natural italian or portuguese with an accent from Portugal (not brasilian) or some other language due to migrations during the mid XXth Century. There is an article in wkp about the various groups in the past, migrations 👉to👈 oil rich Venezuela, similar to the US, Brasil or Argentina but in a much smaller scale. Hungarian, rumanian, german, chinese, arab, etc. I even met a family where the guy had italian descend and the woman was spanish descend, their daughter was always spoken in both italian and spanish by each parent and then going to an only english school, she was fluent in 3 languages. In remote areas also some people can speak both their tribal language and Spanish.
      It's not a widespread phenomena of course but some can, its a very personal issue at homes not out in the open street which is always in Spanish so you would never think such person can actually speak another language in a natural way. My sister for example can actually speak both English and Spanish naturally as she was raised overseas for many years.

      Another interesting issue is the times of the "Klein Venedig" ("of the Welsers"; bankers from Augsburg) a very early chapter of our colonial History, the first germans, swiss, polish and belgian groups (maybe from other central european countries too) to set foot on the american mainland, in order to work as miners, early XVI Century, at a time when the portuguese where still exploring lands which soon became Brasil and the Spanish where just arriving in Cuzco and the River Plate estuary.
      The "Klein Venedig" only lasted a few decades though as there were many complaints from both locals and the european miners + poor results due to mismanagement. As a result, the King of Spain did not renew the leased colony contract to the Welsers. Cities like Coro or Maracaibo even had names such as New Augsburg or New Nuremberg. A different chapter all together from Colonia Tovar origins which came about much later.
      A curiosity, which does not happen very much in other latinamerican countries is the venezuelan popular liking for central european style flavours: locally made maltzgetränke: malta, which btwy little by little is becoming more popular in other countries in latin america where is made locally too, locally made polish style sausages for street hot dogs, local tartar sauce, locally made münster cheese (arriving in Venezuela via the US), imported dutch cheese by container loads during previous decades; a bit weird for a tropical caribbean country, maybe a 0.000000000000001% dna from the klein venedig times 😄 Such bud tastes and as to why have never been researched, is just a personal observation. The per capita cosumption of local maltzgetränķe is probably even higher than in Germany itself as it is consumed by both young and adults quite often. 🤠👍

      And the most of the owners of the places there are german but maybe tley leave the country or maybe u have to know someone there in the Colonia Tovar to know the real germans.

    That's brave. Cycling through Venezuela. I don't think there are many gringos who dare to do that. I've been watching all your great videos about Venezuela. Your Spanish got better and better from video to video. This gives me hope for my stay in Venezuela.

    • @tamanako2507
      @tamanako2507 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      He wouldnt be considered a "gringo", in Venezuela the term only applies for usans, not even canadians, we call canadians "canadienses". Maybe is different in other countries but is not normal in Venezuela to use the term in a wider sense. He looks venezuelan too. In the past a mister from Europe would be called "musiú" deriving from the french word, but it normally applies to middle aged guys and older, not young people, we would call them using their country of origing. Like he would be a "holandes" not "gringo". 🤠👍

      You have really a innaccurate perception of how things are in venezuela for real. this is a very diverse country in term of etnicity. Also being a "gringo" is not a sinonymous of "attack him" its all the opposite by the way. Its a country of inmigrants and here they are very open to foreigners.

    Btwy, I just remembered, one of the most popular cheses during bonanza years was an imported one from holland, people would carve a lid and take the little cheese balls out little by lttle during the following days but making sure to leave a wall, once it was like a bowl people would fill it up with a stew or similar, put it in the oven and the cheese would melt, delicious 🤤 still the cheese can be found at some supermarkets in Margarita Island. It had a red wrapping, it was one of my favourites 🧀🤠👍
