I haven't had a car for two years, and I've biked through two winters in North Dakota so far. Over that time I've really grown attached to biking and I appreciate it a lot more (plus it keeps me in some form of shape) I'm known by my friends as a bicyclist. Good episode, wish I was there riding with them.
I'm a cyclist in NYC. Definitely can relate to the aggressive drivers, but it's all part of the game and I love every minute of it.
This was dope! I remember several years ago doing a Wolfpack Hustle Sprint race. Those dudes are a family for sure. Coming out from NY they showed a lot of love and met a lot of cool dudes from LA.
AWESOME, I love this show! There's just so much variety and discovery; there's something for everyone and you really show it. Thank you Rainn.
Wonderful video about a wonderfulsub-culture in LA . Thanks for showing this. I love riding and have for over 50 years now. It's a nice way to connect with others. It's a nice way to learn more about who we are as a person too.
Road, Cyclocross, Track, MTB, and BMX, and subcultures by themselves.
Don't forget Gravel!
@@al_pastor yes forget gravel
This is so awesome.
This is pretty cool. Bikes are good for the world. I don't rock tricks like these dudes but I'm a dedicated bike commuter.
Someday, I want to live in Copenhagen because it is so bike friendly.
Nice to see how young Americans enjoy biking. Greetings from The Netherlands!
Nice one.
Great story!
I agree, fixies are a gateway drug... I started out with a track bike. It didn't take me long to move onto something with gears, but man.... That bike was pure, unadulterated fun.
+Homini Lupus I'm still 10+ years on my fixed gear love. Still haven't switched over to anything with multiple gears.
This was an excellent episode. I don't like bike riding, but now I better understand people that do.
Cycling even has subcultures within, they touched base with the average joe rider, but when you get on the pro level you see different personalities of riders. There are the super aggressive track riders (like myself) to the speed freak roadies, to the rough and tumble cyclocrossers. this is what makes the sport so great.
I really like these subcultures videos! Interesting and well done!
thats awesome. when i move to la i'm going to do this wolfpack thing.
Omg i love soulpancake! I just bought the book! I would die to be on an episode!
I adore these subculture videos. So interesting!
Awesome, honest, real and to the point, I feel you men, Viva la Bicicleta!
Have a camera?
I love biking. If I'm ever in the L.A. area I'll check you guys out! Really cool video!
I agree with you. Seeing as I live in Wyoming, there's not much bike activity in such a small populated area, I don't experience much, but I definitely know what you're talking about.
Lovely story! i know im quite late, the video is from 2012 my gosh, now we are 2020 and i enjoyed the video.
Greetings from sLOVEnia. Love cycling.
Little tip to catch hit and run drivers: always carry a small piece of chalk on you (jersey pocket or in your short pocket) and when you get hit do everything in your power to look and memorize the plate number. Then write it down on the pavement with your chalk.
Nice video. You guys so cool!!
i'm glad there's someone else who think exact the way I do
Roller Derby? Awesome!!... Thanks for the reply, and I'm glad you have it in mind :D
pretty good editing, i must say.
Riding is a one of a kind thing. It fells freeing and is good for your body.
Thanks for posting this video. I ride my old dirt bike all the time here in Davis, CA, and have never riden a fixer, or raced, but have lots of friends who do one or the other. Not too many do both, but that seems to be related to age. Younger guys & gals prefer fixers around here, while the older riders gravitate toward the street bikes and racers for regular multi-dozen-mile trips through and around town. If you like bicycles, you'd love Davis, though it is VERY flat.
...and it's a great way to stay in shape!
I wish i was in L.A. you guys awesome weather year round. Im from Chicago. Its awesome you get the elements which i guess adds some variety and experience different weather situations. Winter is winter, its cold, wet and ice.
that was cool . the dude was falling behind , but he stuck with it and persevered .
Nice film
Will Share on our FB Site.. COOL!
"Can you do it more smiley?" HAHA!!! that guy's great...i feel the same and also am a los angeles commuter! (though not at all a Cat 3 level racer!)
I've had a bike now off and on about 52 years now, I'm 58. I ride to work if the weather's not too bad that's 20 mile a day, i like to bike-camping which means taking a separate bike with trailer to places like woods and camp there, maybe follow a trail for a bit, maybe just kick back. When I used to live in cities i'd ride my bike everywhere. Some people like a minimalist approach to Bike packing or bike camping, I want a few comforts in my old age. I don't intend to quit anytime soon.
very cool!
You should go to Bellingham, WA and do an episode on mountain bikers. Those people are awesome.
Very cool video. Really cool tricks for such big bikes. Nice to see others would rather cycle than pump thousands of gallons of spent fuel into the atmosphere.
ive acctually only had positive rides while ridin in SF. but I was born and raised here (LA) so ive seen good n bad days.
I am a cyclist. I cycle everyday if I can and I feel the itch in my legs if I don't. I love it for the speed, the improvement and the solitude.
Man, now I want to get into cycling.
oh my gosh, I so wish I could go to that!
dude! come to denton, we have fixies everywhere!
The best And real motivacion video on youtube Ps. lOve cycling :D
Awesome.
I have a mountain bike. I have changed the tires so its easier to ride it on the road. I cycle 7.5km everyday to work and again to go home. I LOVE IT!
Inspirational.
Cool story bro !
i have two bikes. One road bike. and one normal bike. for through the city. I live in the Netherlands so it's a way of travel. And it's also the sport I play. I love cycling
I'm with you on that. For me, a bike is mainly the most convenient mode of transportation. I don't embellish my bike, if it's need repair, I don't mind putting a different coloured spare part than the original on it, etc. I still love my bike, though, it gets me where I want to go, it gets me some exercise, etc. Greetz from Belgium!
interesting. for me a 'normal' bike is a road bicycle! i'm glad you are into it though! what do you use the road bicycle for? do you feel like in the Netherlands a road bicycle is too fast and therefore, maybe a bit frustrating in 'bicycle traffic'? i do like to go fast on my road bicycles even when commuting, but then I have to keep up with car traffic and not bicycle commuters.
@Bartô N While that is highly subjective, I do understand the opposite perspective. I can be comfortable on a straight bar bicycle for about 5 to 10 miles, then for my back's sake I miss the ability to change positions. Most modern 'go anwhere' road bicycles have a wide handlebar and an upright position comparable to any straight bar bicycle, so you get the best of both worlds, plus now they have adjustable stems so there really is no reason for me to ever get a straight bar bicycle unless I go mountain biking.
@Bartô N Ah yes. My perspective is from Los Angeles, where you literally fight to stay alive and everything is at least 20 miles apart! :) Dutch bicycles have less use here unfortunately.
@Bartô N PS. I've watched many videos with envy!
1critter is a mountain unicyclist in Hawaii - I was looking for my daughter's town, AIEA, when I found this guy...great music by Keller Williams
I agree, get out there and tell them!
Love Wolfpack, and orange 20- a lot of the pack riders are fast
I borrowed a bike from my local bike club to ride the S T P and named it Michael Collins, a powerful man in the shadows of others. I thought that kind of described me
Fabian speaks out what I feel about cycling. It was my first love (started in age of 3) and it will be my last. When I die, I wish to die as an old grandfather and with tan lines on my legs and arms and a weather-beaten face. :)
hahaha me too. My mom and friends complained about me having tan lines but I just don't care about it. Love to have tan lines, it's like a proof that you're cyclist.
Bikes are the best way to get around a city! I'd like to get in on one of those night rides sometime.
Beautiful.
has soulpancake ever done a bike commuters subculture? do they even do sub-subculture? I haven't got any numbers on hand, but it feels like we're coming up.
Also, joel750, read some bike history. Not the first vehicle ever invented, but still the most efficient mass produced land vehicle on the planet even though it's been around for nearly two centuries.
haven't you seen the cave drawings from Mesopotamia? the bicycle goes back 10,000+ years thanks to a super advanced inter-dimensional civilization that were initially presumed to be aliens by the natives.
I've been car free for 13 years now, and it was one of the best decisions I've ever made!
cool, awesome thing to do.
You most likely won't see that happening since LA is such a big part of everything. But I catch your drift, here in Dallas there's so much potential.
i didnt acctually pay for the bike full price. but neither did my parents. I was on a jr team before with great sponsers that helped with settin me up with a bike. I also work at a shop. so def helps out.
OMG! you are all so AWSOME!
4:25 he is sprinting haha look where his hands are
I wish there was a racing cycling team in or at least "near" manatee county, FL. The only teams here are clubs with people over 50 :(
One lucky day in the near future you will be able to move out of America's wang.
Man they went after him for 12 years i would give in to it to if i was lance .... Ever in east TN on wensday nights go to pinney flats bike and fitness leave at 6:00, its a wonderful rides
I want to go to LA & find that group. On my list.
inspiring 😀
i want that frame!!!
this is life!
wil you do one on ultimate Frisbee?
idk about that im on the east coast i live in richmond va. id like to join a team sometime ive been doing alot of pace rides this summer and boy do i love it, but i also like mtn biking and just blew a lotta money on a new mtn bike so now i gotta ride lol so im afraid the mtn bike may get in the way of my road bike progress and upgrading through the categories i wish u could get points through mtn bike races too not just road, i love it all man
what model of termac is this specialized ?
Im gon upgrade start of next season to a 2 when all the road races start. But i was a cat 3 at 18. People hook jr teams up so much becuz there all kids and the future blah blah. i miss bein a jr sometimes. We were the 2011 and 2012 SNSCA champs. basically socal points leader.
Hey soulpancake, maybe consider doing one of these subculteres vids on rowing (or crew for you guys in America :p)
Is that the music from criminal podcast?
Riding a Tarmac like a champ! :D
Can someone tell me where this bike shop is or the name of it.
I agree! I really want to be able to venture out and film other cities, states, heck even countries! Currently our budget keeps us LA bound but I hope to venture out someday for sure. Thanks for the comment, I'm right there with you!
Good idea. :)
Thank you so much for leaving a trail of comments.
4:14 "there's people who are always going to be faster than you, no matter what you do."
except if you're Usain Bolt
totally agree with you! BUT the video is edited. I had actually used a hand signal to turn left. I remember this because the cars had been followin and to direct them where i was crossin i signaled left. you can see I put my hand back on the handel bars. I dont remember anyone honkin think it just might be editin but coulda just slipped my memory!
i love this im only 11 and i love it
Omaha! One of the only cool cities in the midwest and my home town
this reminds me of the new movie coming out called Premium Rush
Anyone know where Fabian Works? Would like to know
i'm a cyclist too! cannondale CAAD 9 baby!
I actually agree. For whatever reason I found that most of the subcultures we looked at were predominantly male. I don't know what the reason is, but have been wondering the same thing myself. I promise, we'll get your back with our Roller Derby Episode, which is a completely female-centric sport and subculture. Thanks for the comment, it is definitely something that's on my mind too.
I'll take two to go!
Sometimes the bike lane has obstructions or broken glass that could damage tires and so occasionally we have to take the lane. In addition, in the left turns we have to slide to the turning lane and we would appreciate it if you drivers (oh wait I drive too) would give us common courtesy. Thanks.
Would the Nerdfighters be a subculture because if so I think that should be an episode.
Fabian has excellent taste in bikes.
Palm Cycles In Culver City also in california.
the next subculture --> meditation. and i think now soul pancake should go international
Bear in mind that bike lanes can be very few and far between, so sharing is caring, and caring is avoiding shquishery!
We are just another vehicle on the road, but more healthy for both rider and planet :)
are you from nyc?
in the Netherlands we go everywhere on a bicycle, well... everywhere within at least 10 miles , even the small children and the old people. that's why these kinds of things always seem so weird to me. in the Netherlands you learn how to ride a bike when you are 3 years old and don't stop untill you are in your 80's unless you are crippled in some way or something.
Anyone know of a bike (used or new) that can handle a lot of torque and handle 45+mph? My current bike is a 1970's Schwinn Le Tour and it's limiting me to about 30mph. The whole bike from the handlebars to the frame to the rims all flex from the power I put out and it's all steel aside from the handlebars, neck, crank and wheel hubs (aluminum). I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of money on a bike, but I do want a fast one that can handle high speed.
ANYONE KNOW WHERE IS THIS????
