  • Once the most modern, richest and most visited capital city in Latin America today Venezuela has less tourists then any other country in the continent. Economic downfall and violence has all played a role in this but do locals think it’s time Venezuela and it’s capital can once again welcome tourists? Let’s find out.

No sé pero yo no vivo en el terror que algunos dicen ..viajo por todo el país y creo que es muy seguro. Hay gente que se intimida cuando ve a un extranjero al frente...

I think transportation should be your number one priority if you travel here. You can't rely at all on the public transportation. The subway and the buses are an absolute chaos. I think it's best to rent a car or hire somebody to drive you around. Of course, it's not like you can't walk around, but it's best to always always use a car as your means of transportation. And also, two of the biggest municipalities in caracas, Baruta and El Hatillo dont have subway stations at all (Baruta only has one). And the buses in those areas can sometimes be scarce, especially during the weekends.
And also, a lot of the thefts, although not nearly as common as before, happen either on the subway or on a bus, so, transportation is a big deal, nobody mentioned it here.

If you can feel safe in Mexico or Brazil then Venezuela should be like being in Japan for you

      Recently.
Years ago, say 5 to 30 years ago, or to put it more clearly, from the 90s to the late 2010s it was a shitshow.
Caracas was among the top 3 regularly of the most dangerous cities in the world. And had one of the most higher homicide rates in the world. That wasn't an illusion.
I'm glad recently my country is feeling kinda safe. Kinda being the key word. Sadly, many people are feeling that crime has risen a bit. So time will tell. I have zero trust in the security forces and politicians that they'll know how to handle criminals. Not when in their ranks they have lots of criminals too.
For the most part, the government isn't responsible for easing the sensation of unsafety. Unless you count that they are the responsible for this economic, political and social debacle of the last 20 something years, a debacle that even sent the thief, kidnappers and murderers out of the country to find a better place to steal, scam and kill.

I really want to visit Venezuela once in my life. Every Venezuelan i met they are very friendly. Everybody says you should be with someone to show you around, but how can you find this trusted person as a tourist?

I don’t think it’s necessary but it could be helpful. I went alone but met lots of people. It’s true they are very friendly and spoke more English then I expected
