    Just ordered xmaxx8s(green) today, been watching your vids very informative and detailed, will be checking all 3 diff, shocks, screws, cush for slop if yes than 6mm O-ring, the esc 6 and the 46 tooth steel gear look like nice upgrades (may do this sooner than later), your vids will keep it trucking nice.

    Having the same experience w my 8s shredding 18/46 traxxas gears,I ordered Hot Racing spur/pinion combination so hopefully I’ll get this damn xmaxx sorted

      If you strip them ones get GDS spur n pinion gears. Been running mine for a while now no problem

    Is a great informative video. Not sure if it did then but the cush drive now has a plastic washer with 2 slots that fir over the pin and hold it secure. But they wear too. So I do like the o-ring method and gonna have to try it out next time I change out the cush. Had to change the rubber cush. Mine have half the grooves wore out and I dont bash hard ( more like a monster jam event) so I know it will be a peice to keep an eye on and bought several sets of the transmission and cush cover with spacer i.e. washer. If someone doesnt look in the cap where it can stick, they may never know one is there and mess it up more. I didn't realize it till the motor was warranted out that the tab by the pinion was suppose to sit in a groove. So it was warped and was a struggle to get it to pull it back and set the motor on the pins. My center differential gears where also warranted out do to the gears being cut wrong and should not have passed QC. Used 6s batteries until the 8s completer set. Then all but 3 combined gears stripped between the spur and pinion, 2 of the 6s tires they sent with an 8s RC came unglued, they sent me out another pair problem was it was on different sides and Xmaxx tires come one side to a pack. Rrrr. So not to be petty bought the otherside myself and really glued the 6s tires. You pretty much warranty everything out the first year of ownership, the second year you start upgrading.

    Alex..im about to get into my new x max...any chance that you could show how to get to the cushion drive and center bias drive..I know you're busy...would it be possible to do a video on removing these items. ...thanks a million, your my go to guy on just about everything because of your thoroughness. ..jim

    Hey is there side to side play in the pin and smaller gear on the opposite side of the shaft?

    I'm sure you're aware now that the little slot between 2 screw is where you stick a little screw driver and pop it up. But probably good to open all up to check other stuff and making sure the other screws on the spur aren't loose or you'll hear a ticking noise as soon as it starts to back out.

    My max8s came with little round plastic cover, covers the little center pin, it still has very very little slop, maybe this is new item as I recieved my max8s recently, still may do your rubber o-ring, guess shouldn't have any slop, great vid, thanks.

      Craig Mclaughlin thanks for watching the video I really I appreciate it ya traxxas is updating the cush drive slop issues with washers they are doing it on the new e revo 2.0 to personally I think the o ring is a more tighter fit with 0 slop

    I’ve been having issues with my pinion gear coming loose. My Cush drive had a ton of play in it. This was ultimately the cause.,

    Hey man I need a solid recommendation of front, center and rear diff oil weights for my 8s XMaxx. I’m new to all this and I’m fixing to tear into it and freshin it up and I have no clue what weights to use.
    Just normal bashing, speed runs, drifts, wheels, jumps. Also I’d like to be able to control over rotation in the air for smoother landings...any and all help would be awesome!! Thanks man

      if the inside wheel balloons, you need heavier diff oil front and rear. If the car understeers, use thicker rear diff oil. Oversteer, thicker front. Thicker oil in the torque converter sends more power to the rear.

    slop is bad on any rotating mass component, but no give can be just as bad and cause shaft shearing. make sure that minute amount of movement is possible.

    New xmaxx comes with the piece in the cush drive to help with the slop
    Just purchased a new one in May

    Heh I recently switched to a 21t pinion mod and and 50t spur, chances the pins to where they told me to and now it sounds terrible a lot of clanging and very rough sounding? Wondering wtf to do. As I dont know why is isnt smooth like it was with the 18 54 gearing. I have yet to even drive it as I just know sethigm isnt correct

      Try to take out the pins and cut a pice of notebook paper about 8mm wide and stick it in the gears and mesh them together then tighten the motor down them roll the truck back and make sure to take out the paper

    Dude that was painful to watch🤪 it's tight cause you need to loosen the screws off a bit and the spur just slides on then you tighten it up!

      Dorobantu Cristian-Tudor Hello thank you for watching my videos I sincerely appreciate it very much what I would recommend doing is doing a full tear down everything make sure everything is tight adjusted correctly spins smoothly on the differential cops are correctly filled I would recommend cleaning I'm out and filling him with 100 K differential fluid the torque of viseing center drive needs to be filled correctly with 20 million diff luid the shocks I recommend 42.5 wait shock oil that is the perfect weight shock will for all around driving bashing jumping handling on roads works very well make sure every screw is correctly tightened and them gear mesh on the motor is set properly sometimes they are set wrong from the factory that's a big thing to check

    You have slop because you are missing the black plastic washer that goes after the pin. Comes with one from factory. Must have lost it along the way

    You are missing the cap that is supposed to go where you put that o ring. That is why you have excessive play

    Why does your spur gear not have that small black plate that goes on after the pin inside the cush drive ?

      It has spacer, but this is an "X" part number so maybe an original "7793" part didn't have it?

      charles spidell I will say traxxas did a bad job making the the slop is the reason why the spur gear and pinion gear gets broke WAY to much play traxxas didn't do a good job on the cush drive

    Sorry but the slop isn't the reason why them gears shatter. The gears are the reason the gears shatter. Cheapo traxxas metal! Just up grade to GDS or Hot Racing gears and it'll be fine. Good video though, I'll still use this method to stop the slop :)

      You are not bashing hard enough. That slop will end up causing a clicking and kill you gears. Better gears are always a good idea, but this slop is a problem.

    Do not use SAE wrenches .. the xmaxx is all metric wrenches
