The plastic cone peice is backwards. I ran the eliminator for a bit but ended up going back to the cush drive. The cone when pointing inwards is to make sure its perfectly centered
Sometimes the cover bolts that hold the shaft in place loosen or the threads will give and it lets the gear jump a little. If you drill through the chassis and nut and bolt longer bolts in the cover it holds it solid.
I had the same issue with mine after using a belt drive for awhile, it actually deformed the plastic where the spur gear shaft bearings sit. It would allow that whole shaft and gear to rock up n down causing it to skip and trash the gears. Replaced rear bulkhead and cover and has been fine since. It's the main reason I'll never put a belt drive back on it, its just not designed to have belt tension
Yeah I was thinking how in the world did you auger in and not break anything! Couldn't believe it! Then you showed the bulkhead and I was like...okay. He's human. Your builds are always informative. Awesome channel.
Fyi...on that cush shaft, put a Traxxas glow plug washer between the drive gear and rear bearing..takes up the millimeter slack perfectly.....stops the in-n-out movement of shaft assembly

Ouch joe that hurt. I smashed my mt410 into a fire hydrant yesterday :( 😂😂 completely shattered the hinge pin and tore the shock tower in half and sheared the standoff. Arm and diff case perfect 😂
You ever experience any strange behavior with the XLX2 when it comes to slowing down gradually it will jerk the transmission instead of slowing down smooth and be able to coast? I’m using the radiolink transmitter mayyyyybe it’s something I did in one of the more complex exponential settings. I didn’t see anything in castle link that will contribute to this so I’ll check the radiolink settings. So do you know what I’m talking about?
Hey Joe I just bought an x maxx and changed the gearing and I put grease on the center diff gear do u think it will be ok I was looking at it as a differential not a spur gear what do you think
they are super heavy, almost double as stock, plus they are super hard. For speed running on rough terrain theyre okay, but for jumping? Man. They are easy to brake itself or brake some parts on your car
Traxxas finally accepted that my xmaxx is a lemon after sending several videos and pictures there paying for me to send it back to them so they can look over it im hoping when I get it back its a solid as yours as I'm wanting to get the wfo mount and go 1100 kv and max 5 but not until the other issues are figured out that have been going on since it came out of the box
i used the gpm eliminator , hit a tree an it bent the steel shaft an blew up the spur an pinion! leave the cush drive in $60 loss plus the $20 spur bad idea
Jesus! That first hard hit from what? 20-25 feet up probably got a few things worked up and then that hole was the finishing blow! You need to fill that guy in! There is plenty of dirt there to do it with!
@@ExocagedRC I break something every time I go out. It just seems to always happen. But I do crawl for hours at a time and I do enjoy a little trail bashing lol

The Kush drive is designed to dampen shock load not necessarily vibration.
Guess now we know what happens when an unstoppable force meets an immovable object! 😂 Crazy man 👍🏻😁😎

@@ExocagedRC 😂😂😂 brutal! But I'm really surprised that was all the damaged because she took some hella hits!! 😂

I’m still watching ! Man that thing is a monster , two hits like that !! Holy crap !
Nice video as usual ! 👍👍
I think the first bad landing may have broken the bulkhead. Two really hard hits.
Exocaged RC still a very impressive truck for those hard hits!
Traxxas got the X-Maxx right !!
You're gonna have to fill that hole in!😆 That thing is definitely a beast.

also lifted the bolts on a aluminum cover! an stripped them out ,had to buy lower bulk head an center diff cover

Thanks for showing us all how because I mean I know some stuff but your inside and knowledge of rc is very helpfull.
That explains why you weren't there very long that day. I'll definitely be watching out for that hole.
VITAVON TO THE RESCUE! For the buikhead! LOL! Looked like fun till you killeded the Xmaxx! That drive thing is cool.
GPM parts are a bit pricey, but only the best quality for any trucks, especially for the trx-4
A bit pricey?
It amazes me how much the suspension will flex backwards or forewords and not snap tie rods or other suspension parts,, it’s amazing lol
Yeah and most of us never actually see the impacts unless it’s recorded, it happens so quick.

@EXOCAGED RC are/were you having heat issues as well with the prior setup(50t spur/40t pin)?
That’s exactly why im upgrading my whole chassis to green aluminum

Need to turn the punch up on the Max 5
Ouch, you should inspecting around the dirt mound so you won't wreck your RC next time. That is awesome setup!
Yeah I know the hole is there. Usually I get around it but not this time.
@@ExocagedRC LOL bad luck.
That was a very hard hit!, 50mph to a dead stop practically wow, Well at least the chassie is still straight!
LoL yeah. I’ll fill that hole before I try that again
That worn elastomer is what is causing your skipping teeth. It is allowing too much rotation before positive engagement thus causing the skipping.
it was nice at first but did not expect that to happen ,put 1.5 mod spur an pinion on the cush drive an wa la!
Okay a year later are you still running this? How is it holding up? Would you recommend it?

Wow.
WTF that hole is a menace tough break brotha💥better bring the shovel next time!👍bash on!!!
Could the Cush drive be the reason my truck has a grinding noise
Will this work on the XRT as well?
How do you like the GPM part? Been thinking about trying it out
It’s actually doing fine in there.

You still like the badlands on the ol' Xmaxx? Have you broke anything running them? I know they are pretty heavy compared to the stock wheels/tires.

How do you not have wfo drive cup sleeves yet joe?
That was a hell of a hit. That’s all that happened. Love the XMAXX
Sup buddy
On that saga Pinion did you file down a spot on the shaft for the 2nd grub screw?
I did not file the shaft. I just tightened it up where it ended up.
Gotta get me an Xmax one of these days 👋💪😆
Cool lookin but better I do not see it being better.
That plastic piece on the spur won’t it heat up and soften. 🤷♂️
I honestly don’t know about that plastic piece. Nothing rotates on it but if it does cause issue I’ll make something out of aluminum and fix it up.

Those two ratios are within 1 to 2% of each other so I don't think you're going to notice any difference.
Xmaxx had the equivalate of a head on crash ! ouch
Yeah. It was a rough one
Damn it Joe! This is why you can't have nice stuff. 😂
are ytou using this GPM cush today?
I’ve taken it out and moved on to other gears
What a hit!
i used the gpm eliminator , hit a tree an it bent the steel shaft an blew up the spur an pinion! leave the cush drive in $60 loss plus the $20 spur bad idea
Why did you stop running wfo mod 1.5 gears?
I don’t have the right ratio for the 1100kv. Also at the time I switched back to the mod1 gears there were more ratios available.
awesome video. love the xmaxx vids. id have to say with damage like that id be filling in that whole before i attepted it again.
Based on the wear pattern on those gear teeth it definitely looks like your mesh was too loose.
Would like to know how this holds up in the long run

If that motor mount is stamped it could be twisting enough to skip a gear with that kind of power.
