I feel like everything DF has done that isn't Though Fire and Flanes are underrated. Sonic Fire storm is very solid all the way through. Absolute banger.
Except for a couple of your rankings, I agree mostly with everything you said. I think their absolute best albums are Inhuman Rampage, Valley Of The Damned, Sonic Firestorm and Reaching Into Infinity. Then the next tier down, I would put Extreme Power Metal. After that, slightly lower would be Maximum Overload. and The Power Within. But at the very bottom (huge gap between it and the two I just mentioned above it) is Ultra Beatdown. It's too soon for me to place the new album Warp Speed Warriors. I got the standard edition (without the bonus tracks) on release day and have only listened to it twice so far since. Time permitting, this coming weekend, I am going to give multiple listens to it without any distractions. Anyway, my 4 favorites I mentioned as their best are there because they feel so epic and fresh and I thought Reaching Into Infinity felt like a callback to when Power Metal was just starting out after branching away from traditional Metal/NWOBHM. Ultra Beatdown is my least favorite because it felt like I was listening to a video game soundtrack instead of a power metal album. Now I do understand that is what DragonForce is known for and where they get their inspiration for a lot of their material, but I think they went overboard too much with the Video Game sounds and themes on Ultra Beatdown. That album also has my least favorite album cover too. With The Power Within, I do like the songs, but for some reason, the production, mix and sound kind of brings the album down for me. I understand that a few years later, they released a remixed/remaster of The Power Within called Re-powered Within, but I never did buy that one. I may eventually get my hands on a copy and give it a listen to see if it actually improves on the original mix and sound. I say Maximum Overload is my least listened to DragonForce album, not because I don't like it, but because it was the only DragonForce album I didn't buy on release day, due to money being tight for me then. I didn't end up getting it for myself until a year or two after release. Usually, when I buy albums long after released, I just give them a couple listens before I put them on the shelf. With new releases, I keep listening to them for months after release. Now that I think about it, I am going to pull that album out again and give it another listen or two. Extreme Power Metal that I put just slightly below the 4 that I think are their best is pure fun. They may have been having the most fun they ever had in the recording of that album and it really shows on the album how much fun they were having. I dock it a tier because there is slightly more cheese on that album than the 4 I have ranked above it in the best tier.
I first heard “The game” live and holy shit! I thought they were gonna bring the house down while playing it, I will never forget that moment. Fastest DragonForce song to date.
Didn’t get into DragonForce because of guitar hero. I discovered them just before they were announced to play at Ozzfest 2006. Saw them at Ozzfest and I was hooked!
DragonForce is definitely a cheesy yet fun band. Through the Fire and Flames was definitely and introduction for the band for me back in high school and before I discovered a lot of tech death, I thought the dual guitar solos were some of the most impressive I've heard. Here would be my ranking: S - Valley of the Damned, Inhuman Rampage A - Sonic Firestorm, Ultra Beatdown, The Power Within B - Maximum Overload, Warp Speed Warriors C - Reaching into Infinity, Extreme Power Metal
I also love this band a lot. Literally, I agree with everything on this list except Extreme Power Metal. I just really love the album a lot it's an A tier for me. I think Ultra Beatdown might be my personal favorite, but that depends on the day.
I like and had known of Dragonforce before I ever knew they were in Guitar Hero, even though I had learned of them in 2006 when Inhuman Rampage was out. However I started with Valley of the Damned and I got to love the band because of RPG-like fantasy themes and the blast beats. I've been a fan of them ever since and I don't really play Guitar Hero myself. My personal rankings of all Dragonforce albums (however there's been not one bad Dragonforce album for me): 1 - Sonic Firestorm 2 - The Power Within 3 - Valley of the Damned 4 - Inhuman Rampage 5 - Reaching into Infinity 6 - Maximum Overload 7 - Extreme Power Metal 8 - Ultra Beatdown 9 - Warp Speed Warriors
Great video! I've been a Dragonforce fan for 20 years ever since my life was turned upside down by track 1 of Sonic Firestorm. I've never however found it very fun or easy to rank their albums or even conclude which album is my favourite. For me, ZP's voice is/are my preferred chops on record, however Marc is an UNBELIEVABLE live singer and I'm blown away at each gig. My ranking would be pretty similar to yours on the whole..... however I'd probably put 'Inhuman Rampage' and 'The Power Within' as joint first as I can't choose. I have VIP tickets to meet them a week tonight at their Bristol gig with Amaranthe 🎉🤘
I discovered Dragonforce through Guitar Hero 3. I picked up Inhuman Rampage when I was like 8, which I liked, it might've been my first metal album. It's been years since I heard it, and I never checked out any of their other albums, so the band hasn't really clicked with me, but maybe I'll give their discography a listen sometime.
Warp is realy, realy good album. I'm listen everyday. This is realy nice album. Have Speed, Energy, Melody, Power, space kingdom and warrior, fly Lamborghini, blasters, Science Fiction vibe as from Cyber Punk.
I am one of those kids who got int metal through Guitar Hero. And i'm glad more people are coming out as DragonForce fans, cause it used to be really hated on the metal community. Their newest ain't one of my favorites tho.
See, i knew people wouldnt like Space marine force, infact I didn't at first. But just the catchyness of it, the experimentation of the chanting can work. It kinda feels like a hype song to a croud backed with catchy chorus and DragonForce Guitar. The opening is bliss and i love it personally. And i feel like it works with the war hammer vibe. Also gives me spacehog "in the meantime" Vibes for some reason; If they turned the bpm up and turned metal. Once again i get the chanting not being your favorite, but it likes a question and answer thing and i really like those in music. Now the last part with the general can go. That part drags. But other than that i love Space Marine. Hoping people don't hate me for that lmao
Not a huge fan of power metal in general but a huge fan of DragonForce. Listening to their new album lifted my mood for the rest of the day! Such an entertaining album, but it's weak point I believe is in the length...
Hello how are you, I'm from Brazil and I'm also a big fan of this channel, I would like to know what your process is like for evaluating an album? Thanks in advance.
Power Within remains as my favorite, but I'm really enjoying the new one quite a lot. Btw, have you heard the new Necrophobic album? Would love to see a tier list from them.
sonic firestorm will always be my favorite not a single bad song on the whole thing, especially love prepare for war and cry of the brave, and as cheesy as it may be i love above the winter moonlight a lot very flavorful album imo alot of very fun songs
I really enjoyed the album especially the Taylor swift cover. I do think Doomsday Party is a really mid. Especially since Nanowar of Steel’s song Disco Metal or anything by Beast in Black do the whole dance party metal stuff a lot better
I agree with the placement of Valley of the Damned and Inhuman Rampage. They kind of dropped off for me after Ultra Beatdown (which is underrated in my opinion). I really liked tracks 3 and 4 on that one. I just can't really get into Marc Hudson's vocals. I have The Power Within but That was the last album I picked up by them. That Zelda song is one of the cheesiest, most cringey songs I've ever heard in my life. I would feel embarrassed listening to that in public. And that's coming from a 40 year old (almost) lifelong Zelda fan and most of my life as a metalhead. But as with all things, to each their own.
Dragonforce is one of those bands that got old quickly. I enjoyed their music for about two years, but then they fell into one gimmick "you like video games? So do we!", and they milked it for being ridiculous
i digged the experimentation on reaching into infinity and i think its their best album with marc, but this happy go lucky power metal that is trending these days i just cant stand. EPM had some good songs, but this latest album is a 3/10 for me. Everything to me sounds the same and i can hardly listen to it. ironically the best song on the album is not even a df song but taylor swifts song and doomsday party is a good song, but the rest is really weak for me. i hate this trend so much and i hope they do something different in the next album.
Haven't liked any of their albums as albums since maxinum maximun over lord. It's been a song here and there for me ever since. I do think lyricly Warp speed is their worst album but I disagree on.war hammer. That songs is so cool
Valley of the damned is one of my all time favorites in Power metal but after that i think their albums are very hit or miss with some great and some awful songs.
Space Marine Corp 💀 is really bad. Regarding Doomsday Party, they should have put the version with Elize on the album insteand of the one without her. The rest is great.
1. Extreme Power Metal 2. Warp Speed Warriors 3. Inhuman Rampage 4. Reaching Into Infinity 5. Ultra Beatdown 6. The Power Within 7. Maximum Overload 8. Valley Of The Named 9. Sonic Firestorm
Whilst I enjoy the album's with Marc singing, I find his voice overall detracts from all these albums and are much lower in my opinion vs. all the older albums.
I stopped listening to them a long time ago unfortunately. Just all sounded the same after a while. Not surprised the drummer bailed when he did, right around the time I realised it’s too repetitive
They became too pop with Extreme Power Metal. I like their previous albums. Great band. I don't like them now.. their last albums are bad unfortunately
Dragonheart Valley Of The Damned demo was amazing because it sounded real and organic. Afterwards it turned into generic brickwalled digital nintendo crap for virgin basement dwelling nerds.

Sonic Firestorm is not only DF's best album in my opinion, but one of the greatest and most underrated power metal albums of all time!

I remember discovering SF using my surround sound system and weed in 2005. What a journey!

@@thatguy9464 Are you mad or something lol?
Gotta disagree with you on Space Marine Corp....that song just makes me smile! Absolutely fits with the Warhammer theme!
I think it grows on you. The talking in Burning Heart is more annoying to me. Why is that there?
yeah fr space marine corp is such a fun song!
Dragonforce is just an underrated band
All the songs are so satisfying and so melodic
And my fav album is valley of the damned
Except for a couple of your rankings, I agree mostly with everything you said.

The double tapping section in Fury of the Storm is so hype for me.
I first heard “The game” live and holy shit! I thought they were gonna bring the house down while playing it, I will never forget that moment. Fastest DragonForce song to date.
Power metal is my guilty pleasure. Thanks for covering some of the bands.
It's ok to just have fun
Power Metal is fun. Some people take themselves way too seriously.
No need to feel guilty about it! It’s okay to like things that are campy & fun.
I can’t take scrawny metal dorks trying to act tough, so when I listen to it, it has to be fun. That’s why I love power metal
Didn’t get into DragonForce because of guitar hero. I discovered them just before they were announced to play at Ozzfest 2006. Saw them at Ozzfest and I was hooked!
I got into guitar hero because of DragonForce
Their set was probably the most fun of the main stage.
Maximum Overload is their best album. By miles. By 100000 miles.
Hope you review the new Unleash the Archers when it comes out! By far the best band I accidentally saw in the last few years.

Way better than Dragonforce

Very good ranking, and I’m digging the Suspiria shirt.
Maybe I'm just a nerd, but I absolutely LOVED that space marine cadence. Honestly one of my favorite songs on the album for that
I am glad to hear these comments to approach the music with a more elaborate point of view rather than saying that every record is a meme album.

I discovered DragonForce thanks to YTMND. I thought it was the absolute pinnacle of metal music. I was young.
I miss YTMND

For me, first four albums is pure perfection❤️😉
Judgement Day is their best song ever for me
Surely a Kamelot deep dive is warranted ⚔️
Power Within remains as my favorite, but I'm really enjoying the new one quite a lot.
Btw, have you heard the new Necrophobic album? Would love to see a tier list from them.
Great reviews but you should also do Epica Nightwish and Amaranthe albums ranking.
sonic firestorm will always be my favorite
not a single bad song on the whole thing, especially love prepare for war and cry of the brave, and as cheesy as it may be i love above the winter moonlight a lot
very flavorful album imo alot of very fun songs
Maximum overload is my favorite by a long shot.
Same here, Id argue its their only album that I love from start to finish as oposed to isolated songs. This one slaps all the way through.
Dragonforce.... the cheese is strong with this one. And I love my pepper jack 😂
(This is me saying I love this band for the pure fun of them lol)
I really enjoyed the album especially the Taylor swift cover. I do think Doomsday Party is a really mid. Especially since Nanowar of Steel’s song Disco Metal or anything by Beast in Black do the whole dance party metal stuff a lot better
Can you make a list for My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult
The Sawtooth Grin dropped a new EP
Ultra beat down is criminally underrated. Honestly my favorite power metal album of all time. Sue me.
Speaking of Amaranthe, will you rank their discography someday? It would have been interesting if you did 🤘😎🤘
I don't do a ton of power/symphonic metal
The next ranking the best power metal band ever Stratovarius
Give me classic Gamma Ray over Dragonforce any day
Cool Suspiria shirt! Did you like the remake? I thought it SUCKED.
I actually loved the remake but they are 2 very different movies.
Love Dragonforce not a bad album ✌️🇬🇧

Whilst I enjoy the album's with Marc singing, I find his voice overall detracts from all these albums and are much lower in my opinion vs. all the older albums.
Dragonforce have some fun songs here and there. But most of their stuff is so bland and has no seasoning, paired with mediocre songwriting
I stopped listening to them a long time ago unfortunately. Just all sounded the same after a while. Not surprised the drummer bailed when he did, right around the time I realised it’s too repetitive

Sounds pretty good, but I gotta say, worst album name ever.
It suits the music imo
Yeah, this last album is not good.
That's a joke band. It is poor's man DT...
They were a serious band in the past but they’ve recently gone much further into the depths of cheesiness. I think albums 1-7 were amazing though
Never really been able to get into them, I just find them annoying. If I want power metal I’ll just go to Blind Guardian
What a terrible tier list.
Can't take this band seriously, sorry
