I had the pleasure of meeting Tom at the Irish Fest in Milwaukee a little more than a year before his passing. I was very apprehensive of approaching any of the band members; I was just in awe to be so close. When I finally had the nerve to approach Tom, he greeted me as if I were an old friend, even giving me a bear hug. He had Robbie take a photo of me with him and his brothers. He was delighted that I had recognized him in the Warren Beatty film, "Reds"! His warmth and humanity were on full display.
I was very disappointed with his memorial service at St. Patrick's Cathedral in NYC. Even though there were many internationally known and local singers, none were allowed to sing. The priest that gave the eulogy, admitted he didn't know who Tom was.
