The upgrade repair kit on ebay 499.00 replaces that gear and all of the actual clutch parts behind the flywheel. Behind the flywheel is the 1 way gear. The kit does not include the cage with the roller bearings but that was pristine in my Son's. That gear you put the washer fix on drives the clutch.
Thanks for this video, I have a vstar and I removed the left side cover and the shaft came out. I am now having problems getting it back in and being able to put the side cover back on. Any ideas on why I am having so much trouble putting the shaft back in?
My left side cover fits perfectly...so perfect that when I press the start button...the starter hangs the starter idler gear and it will not start at all....all its does is click after I install the cover...once I take the cover off it will turn over....HELP PLEASE!!!!
I have 2006 vstar 1100, yesterday when I tried to start it there was a different sound from the starter. It was more like a howl from a wolf and the engine didn´t turn around. I had never experienced that before. Is this the same noise as you described? If it is can you buy only the shaft and replace it and where can you buy it?
@@JayJay-zb4fq I had to leave it to a skill mechanic who fixed the problem, the spare parts was ordered from Ebay, not Yamaha original costed about 200 USD
Hi I have 2004 Yamaha vstar 1100 bike was sitting almost one year last week I try to start its not cranking no sound nothing just light turn on I see lights on odometer but no sound when I press start button can anyone help me with this what cause this problem thank you
@@luvhangover I replaced the sprag ring in my starter clutch n my starter just spins but i pulled the seat off n got to the starter relay and it made weird noises when i tryed to start it so ill have a new one tomorrow.wish me luck fellas

So, did it work? I'm having the same issue with my 99 v star 1100 starter clutch.

Bad Starter relay is under youre seat
Nope. That didn't fix anything.
It's the starter was to slow and not spinning fast enough to get the clutch engagement.
Get a new starter or rebuild

Because mine just started spinning tonight and bike wont start just starter squealing
