    Thanks for the heads up! Lol I'm working on pulling the flywheel to get to the oil pump on my 2002 vstar 1100. I am beyond frustrated trying to get this thing off. Lol

    Was it easy to take the crankcase cover off and install it back? Gotta replace mine.

    Ken, really good video and your comments definitely speak to me. Question, if you can remember, when removing the left side cover there are 2 or 3 allen bolts located where the clutch cable goes, in other words they are not part of the outer perimeter of the cover. Do you remember if any problems arose from there removal? Seems like they maybe holding something that could drop or mess up without some other action taking place. I am trying to remove the left side cover to access the shift drum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      The shift drum is on the right side of the engine. There are three bolts for the clutch cable cover and a spring on the lever where cable connect. Be sure to release the cable on the lever it will make it far easier. Also drain oil first

    I'm picking up a 2007 1100 classic next week with 19000 kms on it. At around what mileage can I expect this to happen?

    • @freetoride003
      @freetoride003 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      My17A you should just do it. It happens unexpectedly. If you tap on the starter with something and crank it might catch once or twice.

    To many mistakes. First you need to make sure you doing the crank clockwise until the rear cylinder is at top dead center on compression stroke. Install a 6mm tapered punch in the scissor gear to hold in place. Then when you remove fly wheel hold the cog gear in the back of the fly wheel so you don’t let the springs and rods fall out. Also easier if you remove the spark plugs. Not only does it spin easier but you can also see in the cylinder if the piston is a tdc and watch the valves open and close to make sure your on compression. You need to read a manual instead of winging it. They have procedures for a reason and it is to keep from causing damage to yourself anyone helping and the bike.

    so where did all the little springs and dowels come from?

    • @powerbizga
      @powerbizga  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      MB, the com out of the back of the harmonic balancer. I was actually going to pay a bike shop to do this and they would not touch it because of those pins and springs. I wasn't that bad though. Getting the harmonic balancer off was the hardest part

      thanks for the response. Irony is, i'm a motorcycle mechanic, but, this is the first time i've ever dealt with the sprag clutch on this particular bike. I can tell you, none of the other bikes i've ever changed a sprag clutch on, had these things. I popped it off, and they did go flying everywhere. I mainly asked, because i was afraid that since i couldn't see them flying out, i wouldn't figure out where they went lol. But at leas 2 of them stayed where they were supposed to be, so it was obvious where they went and what they do. (but i don't like them!... they are evil)
      Did you figure out a good trick as to how to get them into place, get that gear into place, AND line the flywheel up with the key so it all fits together again? I messed up in so many ways, but i can't really go back. first and foremost, i didn't line the cam gear dots up, i didn't secure the two little gears together, etc. normally..... you don't have to do all of that. i was just winging it without a manual. 98% of the time, i can get away with doing that. But this bike is a new world of crap when it comes to this. dont tons of carbs and everything else to them but not THIS. (first time to everything) but. apparently other's know these things and won't touch the bike lol.
      The really funny part is, once the puller shot the flywheel off, the sprag clutch worked perfectly. but i'm going to replace it anyway. it has obvious disfigurements all over it. But i am definitely curious as to how you got the flywheel back on without dropping the little springs and pins back out of it while getting everything lined up right. any insight is definitely appreciated. lol
      thank you

      +M B , it's been a while since I did that job so I don't remember, I think I snapped the piece with the the springs onto the gear it went on then lined everything else up. I do remember praying that it would crank because I thought I had stewed the timing up but it cranked right up. If I remember correctly, I had more trouble getting the cover back on than I did getting the internal parts done. Lol

      haha.. cool. thanks for the responses. That's actually kind of what i was thinking will happen when i get the parts. but yeah, i'm doing everything i can NOT to move the timing chain -at all- lol. Cool. I'll send you a link to my video when i'm done if you wanna see it. i'll credit you for your help too. take care.

    You can't press something on a tapered shaft..

    • @freetoride003
      @freetoride003 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bob Morris they make a cover nut so you can’t split the shaft. Also manual calls for a puller. Also says a sheave holder as well.
