UNM! Fellow filmmaking New Mexican here 🤙🏼 great video. It’s awesome to see these reviews to figure out if certain gimbals will work with the content we shoot. I shoot with a ronin-s but found it to be really buggie. Zhiyun has never failed me. But I worry about their ergonomics. So many gimbals to choose from!
Got mine, had to return it. Pretty heavy setup with my S1H. Beside, You will need the wireless transmitter in order to access camera mode on your phone unlike Crane 2!! Aesthetically, Love it. Functionality, not so. Great Review Brandon!
The weight of these gimbals is the problem. The sweet spot is a lighter gimbal with a reasonable payload. The crane v2 remains my favorite gimbal. I just hope they update it with a firmware to add vortex mode.
I think the biggest advantage of this gimbal is the fact you can easily pop the camera off and put it on a tripod and pop it back on as well as make it go vertical. If only the Weebill were that easy and convenient.
Zhiyun has their own quick release mechanism, I’ve been using it for over a year. A manfrotto plate that splits in half. You can use 2 of these plates and keep one of them on the tripod, one on the gimbal. Then you can quickly swap gimbal to tripod.
we use the ronin s, after seeing the we will not be upgrading, probably keeping it for another 2 years. there is really no need to upgrade gimbals every year
Hi, For a 24-70 mm lens (f 2.8 Sigma or Sony lens at over 800g) would you recommend Weebill S or Crane 2S ? Not sure if the small Weebill S could handle well a zoom lens.
Hi Brandon, I notice you mention you're having a hard time doing smooth pan which is the exact problem I have with my Crane 2 (i was gonna upgrade to Crane 2S). Which gimbal that you have tried that given the smoothest pan so far?
Thanks for this honest review, i would say the Crane s2 is not made for such light setups, like you said there are way better tools like weebil s or Ronin SC. I used the Crane s2 for around 1 Week now with an Bmpc 6k and Sigma Lenses and it works great for normal shooting, i would say this is a situation where it atm. is the best one hand Gimbal but as you said not for lighter setups :)
Hi brandon! I woud like to ask. I noticed at around 2:21 min mark. When your testing the gimbal while running what do you think caused the jittering? is it the weight of the lens? or is it because of the form of your body? I have the crane plus. and I mounted it on my a6400 w/ sigma 16mm. been having this kind of issue( if it is an issue). My theory was its because of the payload of my gimbal. and when I saw your video it seems to me that its not about the payload. Maybe the weight of the lens? Thanks man! Nice content as always
The gimbal should be able to carry a S1H with a cine lens so it's not the weight. I've used gimbals for 5 years and gotten great results so it's not my body form either.
Speaking of extreme situations, I made so many figure skating videos with the Crane 2. My only gripe was I had to use POV mode to manually counter the horizon tilt when orbiting. It’s sad that they still haven’t addressed inertial compensation. The DJI Ronin SC is now the gimbal I use most, even though I preferred the smooth look of my Crane 2, because it handles horizon roll very well. Do you know which gimbal has the smoothness of the Crane 2 but the inertial compensation of the Ronin series? I don’t need the massive payload of the Movi Pro.
The first honest review. I was so close to but it but no more. I do own a Sony a7III & 24mm 1.4 G master I need a lighter gimbal. I’m thinking about weebill S or roninc SC. But the thing is i want to add another lens for close up, something lik 85mm 1.8 or a 55mm. Which gimbal do you think should I get?
Interesting and honest review! (finally) For smooth gimbal shots, would you always advise (must use) a lighter setup or is a little heavier something you could also get used to? I'm so in love with some cinema lenses I have and they are just not the lightest let alone with a camera + cage. Got rid of the Ronin M because of the size / bulky-ness and doing research for a new one now. Thanks a bunch.
Hey Brandon, firstly I would like to thank you for your videos they are very helpful. So I just got a new Crane 2S and a Sony A7S3, I'm super confused about connecting both of them, I'm using USB C - C cable, it seems to be working but I'm unable to figure out how to control camera operations from gimbal such as start/stop recording; I searched all over the internet and just came across more beginners facing the same problem but no answers in sight. Hope that you could help, thanks in advance
Now I am having second thoughts about this upgrade path. Would love to see if it could balance the DZO Parfocal Zoom lenses, video xmtr, remote zoom & focus controls, might be the extra weight it needs to perform at it's best.
Hey Brandon, i come up with an idea on smaller gimbal for my A7M3+24-70GM/Batis 18, and planning to buy ZV-1 too recently, I own a ronin-s but i think its too massive for me on daily use, thinking of buying another Webill-S or Ronin-SC, which one would you recommend?
For my serious shoots, I use Icecam with custom settings. It is reliable, built tough, and I can fully customize the settings using SimpleBGC software. bdn.li/my-gimbal
Thanks for the review Brandon! I too struggle to get smooth pan with my gimbal. I have had two Moza Air gimbals and it was an issue with both of them. Which manufacturer/model do you prefer when looking for a gimbal in order to get smooth pan? Thanks!
Brandon, were you able to adjust the shutter speed or use the record button on the gimbal using the Sony or like the weebil s did you have to set the gymbal to the Panasonic camera setting.
They're both too heavy for my style of shooting. I made a Moza Air 2 review with the same camera so you can do a direct comparison: th-cam.com/video/I0pZ8LwZCdY/w-d-xo.html

I've been going back and forth from my crane 2 and new crane 2s (I returned the crane 3s, way too heavy).. By chance do you feel like the build of the crane 2s allows for a bit more shake? I keep going back and forth and every time I feel like the 2 is smoother than my 2s.
Just got mine and coming from the DJI ronin S I actually really like the gimbal. However my shooting style is very different to Brandon’s and I have not encountered some of the issues he did.
@@buddyfx7026 hey no worries I am rocking a Fuji xt4 plus my iPhone external monitor with the video transmission add on as well as a bmpcc 6k with that same set up and have had no issues as of yet. The lastest firmware which came out a few weeks ago made it even more smooth than before! Both cameras are not rigged out to keep weight down. Hope that helps !
Does it work for a7 iii? Because when I plug it up it's not getting the functions to change the settings from the gimbal. When I press record from the gimbal the camera does not record! please help! I use the cable and it's charging but it's not giving me the option to control the camera from the gimbal. I've the gimbal set to sony! any help?
I don't know if it's just me, but I feel as though there's more shakiness to the footage, especially the up and down during the walk/run test. Do you normally apply stabilization in post in all of your other videos?
Nice review! I struggle to find a good replacement to my moza air, I've tried the weebill s, and even if it did good on shots with a lot of mouvement (like parcour or running) and with narrow lenses (35mm.50mm), I was really disappointed at its performance when I attempted whide angle cinematic smooth shots. I feel like it's the same for the Crane 2S so I wonder if it's some kind of strategy or limitation, it seems like you can't have the best of both worlds.
Hi. Does anyone know what the blinking orange LED inside the "USB-C Camera Control" and "Focus/Zoom Control" connectors on the Crane 2S means? I have seen that it flashes at different speeds, depending on the way we use the Crane 2S, be it PF, POV, etc... but it is a light that is hardly visible, since it is very dim, and also, It's inside the connectors.

I've had the Weebill-S for over a year and it's a great little gimbal for light-duty shooting.
If you have a light weight setup than weebil s is perfect! But if you use bmpcc than you might want to look at a heavy gimbal like the crane 3s or 2s

Can someone clarify what steadyshot means? Is it a setting on the gimbal? Because I can´t find it in the instruction manual

I still like Air 2 ability to change motors sensitivity with dial scrolling. It is so easy and handy. This function lacks in Cranes lineup.
