That Sony FE 85mm f1.8 and Sony FE 35mm f1.8 is my go-to for almost any paid gig. (The combination of these 2 covers pretty much 100% of the footages and look that I need) That Sony FE 28mm f2 is my go-to for traveling videos! (I mean, its just too lightweight to ignore) That Sony FE 24-105mm f4 is my go-to when I just want to bring 1 lens for the entire day and I'm not sure if I'm gonna take photos or videos or both (mainly for travelling as well).
I just find your channel and Jesus Christ 😱😱😱😱 one of the bests TH-cam channels ever. I’m an amateur about filmmaking and photography, but your content is simple understanding. Thank you so much bro! Cheers from 🇧🇷
I swear to God this video just played after a video I was watching and the first 2secs I knew it was Brendon Li just from the or big shot! Menn you’re the king of Gimbal movement 🔥🔥🔥
Brandon, your informational/tutorial video are always top notch. I've been in the business for over 45 years and I still learn something every time from watching your videos. My personal favorite is the Sony Zeiss 16-35mm. I use it all the time on our gimbal with great results. It's super versatile. Thanks for doing this video. Best of luck to you as we move into our post-COVID world.
Well done as usual! These are the types of review videos the world needs more of! So much great information coming from a pro that uses the heck out of his gear. Amazing sample footage, real world uses, flare tests, etc - all in such an engaging video!
Your work and Chanel is amazing. Took your advice a while back and got the Sony 35mm 1.8 not just for the technical input you gave but the hands on real life usage.
awesome video man! not only to show the different quality of lenses, but the biggest takeaway i got from the video is seeing the differences in focal lengths. this was a big help to me as i am new to videography and still learning what lenses give me the shot i am looking for. got a subscribe from me. thank you!
This is great! Like honestly one of the best videos showing so much footage on how to best use it. What would of made this perfect is using that footage in the end instead of showing yourself. I know some people get the info they need from just you standing there, but the footage would of been the chefs kiss. Anyways cheers.
Just when you thought you were doing well at saving, Brandon has to come along with a video like this.... Awesome review brotha! You seemed to give just the right amount of info for all the lenses with of course incredible b-roll footage. Those winter shots on the 18mm Samyang were stunning.
I sold all of my lenses from ultra wide till telephoto lenses and keep only fe 35mm & 85mm, all 1.8 for the same reason as you! My last sold was 55mm cos I was doubting but at the end I had the same idea as you do! 55mm was too tight but not enough compression and bokeh as 85mm. And i can still use apsc mode in 35mm to get that 50mm look 😉. Thank you Brandon! I love your video 35mm is your fav lens! But I am happier knowing your reason of using 85mm too! 😄
This is why i got tamron 17-28 f2.8 which is very good. With aps c you can get 35mm and up to 42mm. But i can access 28/24/20/17 for photo and tight spaces. The lens is extremely good and sharp with nearly no chromatic aberration , less than in the 35mm and 85mm which have a lot of purple fringe in high contrasted pictures.. but the advantage of these prime lenses is for low light with the f1.8 aperture compared to the f2.8. This is where they could make the difference.
Man, this has become one of my favorite channels. Beyond helpful for choosing lenses. My Sony A7C arrives today! And I've got 28mm and 35mm primes in my sights.
Whenever I watch your videos, I watch the entire ad/ads and even click on each one so hopefully that generates more ad revenue. You've given me too many useful information on this channel for me not to.
Thanks for making this video! Just ordered an A7riii (upgrading from an A6400) and couldn't figure out what lenses to pair with it. I watched a ton of other videos and this was by far the most helpful.
I heard a lot of negative stuff regarding Sony 24mm GM lens regarding bad focus breathing for video. So I'm contemplating whether to get the 24mm 1.4 or the 35mm 1.8. I want a wide angle prime. As I have no prime lenses. Just the Tamron 28-75 and the Sony 16-35 f4. I do real estate, wedding, and personal photography and fun such. Also some hotel and food work.
This is really a perfect lens guide for shooting in different situations,.. Specially supported with great samples of shots using the particular lens in a particular shooting condition... Love this simple and very easy to understand guide bro,.. You and your work is such an inspiration.. 👏👏👏 Thanks bro :)
Great review. This was very helpful, particularly as my requirements are quite similar. I also appreciate the recap at the end and the chapter video markers. Thank you.
I ordered the Sony 20 mm f 1.8 for gimbal shots with the fx6 🎥 i still have the Sony 24-135 mm (too heavy for gimbals), the Sigma 50 mm 1.4 Art and the Sony 90 mm Macro 👍🏻😉 best cinematic greetings from germany
22:00 you really notice that 16-35mm F4 and 24-105mm F4 focus breathing at 24mm when comparing to the 24mm GM, the 24-105mm F4 is closer to the 28mm f2 than the 24mm GM in FOV btw, another great video Brandon!
After watching this video, these are the lenses I would get if I had the a7Siii (only for video). Laowa 15mm Cine, Sony 24mm f1.4, Sony 35mm f1.8, Sony 85mm f1.8.
Thank you Brandon for sharing all those informations. I hope you test a day batis line 25, 40 and 85mm because they are light and very good lenses. I don't know why you don't have one of them in your bag. Price?
Incredibly detailed and helpful video, thank you Brandon for making this. The shot you at 21:22 with the Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM is amazing, the color and exposure looks surreal.
Thanks for always teaching me new ways and showing how to work on getting the shot I am looking for. Try and use your old a6300 giving us a way to use what I have, I know you have out growing it but my budget has not yet hahaha. Looking to get the new a1 someday an old fan JoP
As always, thank you for the great video. I'm still on sony crop with the a6400, but not working for me video wise. I'm now waiting for the right jump up to Sony FF. Will depend on the price point of the sony a74 if not, maybe the C, we shall see. But at least I know what lenses to go for next 😎
Thanks Brandon, this really helped me decide what lenses to get for my new A7iii. So stoked to upgrade from my Nikon D7100. I chose the 20mm 1.8, 50mm Zeis 1.8mm, and 24-105mm F4. Next is to decide on a wildlife/zoom lens, for our sailing trip to Alaska/Mexico.
I recently purchased 18mm and 40mm Batis for gimbal takes and I am really liking that. I know most people say that Batis line is more for photos, but I am starting to use more and more on video projects and love the colors and contrast ... what are your thoughts.
wow im so lucky that i found your channel today. It helps me so much to aim for my goal for the future.. this kind of Video has so much to offer to people that are trying to get into Photography or Videography. i learned so much already just from this one single Video. you got my sub and i got to check out more of your videos. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Brandon, can you make a video on how to best achieve focus when using a gimbal. I'm trying to get the laowa 15mm you recommended, but I've never used MF on gimbal. I trust your information and experience. Appreciate you in advance for all you do for this community!!
I know I'm probbly not in the position to tell you anything about lenses, but if I dared, I'd say that the 50mm 1.4 was gittering, because of the physical length of the opitcs. Something I noticed with my Tamron 28-75mm 2.8 all the way at 75mm. You wouldn't expect it from that focal length, but since it's a 1.4 as you rightly mentioned it's fairly large, so I'm guessing that's where this comes from. Thanks for the video once again. Love your content. PS: youtube compression really sucks. I'm seeing this rainbow separation in the shadows of your footage even though I'm 100% sure it's a clean looking image in the rendered file.
Newbie to photography / videography and just purchased the Sony A7slll and G-Master PE 24-70mm. Heading to Oahu to start practicing videography on land and underwater and i like to know which insurance i should acquire for equipment. You sold me the Gimbal and a smaller lense for the gimbal but i have to get it at bestbuy since i fly in two days.
I made a mistake - the Sony 50mm f1.4 Planar is titled as 50mm GM. Corrected it in the chapter title and product link. Sorry about that.
what about the sony 14mm 1.8 gm?
It is good for video?wedding?
That's alright legend! :D
No! Because you made a mistake you owe us another great video!! Thank you as always Brandon you’re such an inspiration!
Li, please update your Blibli, your Chinese fans miss you so much
A “travel video” guy who has a look that rivals famous cinematographers. Props for that.
WHEN HE SAID SAMYANG 18MM.....i felt that....i loooove that lens on my Sony FX3....
when it comes to filming explaintory videos , Brandon is the best in the community imo..
You do on your own what normally a whole crew would do. Those hand held shot are impressive.
That Sony FE 85mm f1.8 and Sony FE 35mm f1.8 is my go-to for almost any paid gig. (The combination of these 2 covers pretty much 100% of the footages and look that I need)

That 135 mm lightning shot blew my mind!…
Incredible
I just find your channel and Jesus Christ 😱😱😱😱 one of the bests TH-cam channels ever. I’m an amateur about filmmaking and photography, but your content is simple understanding. Thank you so much bro! Cheers from 🇧🇷
I swear, Brandon’s shooting is so distinct and just gorgeous. Seems like he’d be a dream to collaborate with, too. Always fantastic 🤘
The 24-105 seems great, even with the F4 limitations. If it had F2.8 it would be the perfect lens.
General Purpose Shooter... Stable... Accurate... Smooth...confidence all around.
I swear to God this video just played after a video I was watching and the first 2secs I knew it was Brendon Li just from the or big shot! Menn you’re the king of Gimbal movement 🔥🔥🔥
"If you're shooting something like a dream sequence, a drug trip, or maybe just a rap video..." HAHAHA 😂
Brandon, your informational/tutorial video are always top notch. I've been in the business for over 45 years and I still learn something every time from watching your videos. This video should be at the top of every Sony shooter's list.
Just shooting the plants and it feels cinematic and energetic. Amazing and as always to the point. No second wasted👍
Well done as usual! These are the types of review videos the world needs more of!
So much great information coming from a pro that uses the heck out of his gear.
Amazing sample footage, real world uses, flare tests, etc - all in such an engaging video!
FINALLY a video about Sony Lens and live SAMPLES! YOU ROCK MAN!
This is an incredible video. You singlehandedly provided a fresh update for EVERYONE searching for "2021 review of xxx FE lens" Thanks!
Perfect Video. This is how all lens review videos should be. Simple , hands on and straight to the point.
Great video. Only lens missing is the 20mm 1.8 G seriously underrated lens.
Your work and Chanel is amazing. Took your advice a while back and got the Sony 35mm 1.8 not just for the technical input you gave but the hands on real life usage.

I like the end part comparing all these lens

I have to say, one of the best videos out there about sony FE lenses. The video samples are amazing! You earned your sub!
Well done! Absolutely the best Sony video lens breakdown out there!! Thanks for spending the time and making this for all of us Sony shooters.
We travel with you and the gladdest moment is a departure through your video into unknown lands........thank you!!!!!
This is helpful mate. Got my FX3 today.
Sony are CRAZY for not giving you free stuff lol. You explain it all so well.
I sold all of my lenses from ultra wide till telephoto lenses and keep only fe 35mm & 85mm, all 1.8 for the same reason as you! the shots from laowa 15mm is just amazing
watching this at 3am in the morning... really useful video
The amount of effort you put on your every video is just awesome 😍✌🏻
Thanks for the in-depth review, Brandon! It's always good to see the pros and cons of different lenses ahead of time before purchasing a new lens.
Man, this has become one of my favorite channels. Beyond helpful for choosing lenses. My Sony A7C arrives today! And I've got 28mm and 35mm primes in my sights.
It’s great insights of lenses and guidance. I surprises to see how you handle gimbal balance while changing lenses in run n gun situations.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will give you enough strength and confidence to overcome every problem on your own.
Whenever I watch your videos, I watch the entire ad/ads and even click on each one so hopefully that generates more ad revenue. You've given me too many useful information on this channel for me not to.
Best Lens comparison video i've ever seen on youtube far and wide my friend
I literally gasped at some of the shots, great job!
I love my Samyang 18mm. Definitely surprised by how awesome it is.
I totally need one in my kit!
Wow. I remember watching the first iteration of your lense selection video. Still watching 🤣😎
This is great keeping the cost low but creating the most valuable storytelling contents
Love the flare from 24mm gm.
was just looking for lenses for travel film making!! love your content
just luv the Sony 85mm look so much. beautiful
Of all the videos on this topic on yt, yours was by far the most helpful, thanks! Subscribed as well.
Wow thanks for this! I have the 24-105 and didn’t know about that gyro stabilization!
Thanks for making this video! Just ordered an A7riii (upgrading from an A6400) and couldn't figure out what lenses to pair with it. I watched a ton of other videos and this was by far the most helpful.
The perfect video for a sony newbie. Thanks Brandon.

What a comprehensive lens review video! I love this guy!
Samyang 18mm f2.8(paired with a prime lens) is a win-win Combo for me 📷😉
This video has been SO HELPFUL. You have no idea
I don't have a Sony camera, but this video is so worth watching. Great stuff as always 😁
Update: i have A7 III now lol
Now I love even more my trusty Sony 85mm F1.8 😜
I keep coming back to the 24mm 1.4!! I'm going to pull the trigger! Maybe add a 40mm voigtlander for less perfect optics with character.
I love how you don’t just go with the most expensive GM lenses for your recommended lenses as most other content creators do
For video, GM isn’t always the best choice. Usually they’re heavy, expensive and have focus breathing
85 fe is such a beautiful lens
This is really a perfect lens guide for shooting in different situations,.. Specially supported with great samples of shots using the particular lens in a particular shooting condition... Love this simple and very easy to understand guide bro,.. You and your work is such an inspiration.. 👏👏👏 Thanks bro :)
Very very nice informative piece. Knew it took lots of work so thank you very much!
So helpful. I like your no nonsense approach, and have been a long time fan of your travel videos. Very inspiring!
Thanks for this! Will be so valuable in the future!
Great review. This was very helpful, particularly as my requirements are quite similar. I also appreciate the recap at the end and the chapter video markers. Thank you.

Another terrific and helpful video. Thanks Brandon.

Thank you Brandon for sharing all those informations. I hope you test a day batis line 25, 40 and 85mm because they are light and very good lenses. I don't know why you don't have one of them in your bag. Price?
could you make a video showing the different settings you use for different kinds of shots?
Love the look of so many of these. Of course I gravitate to the Sony 24-105 and it’s one of the pricier of the ones listed. Grrr
You should try the Zeiss Batis lenses. They have consistent colors.
Incredibly detailed and helpful video, thank you Brandon for making this. The shot you at 21:22 with the Sony FE 135mm F1.8 GM is amazing, the color and exposure looks surreal.
The Gimbal God at it again! Thank you so much Brandon!

This is the video ive been looking for thank you for the useful info!
this video is so well made love this
I want to add the 20mm 1.8, 35mm 1.8 and 85mm 1.8 to my line up.
Really Great Tutorial Video Brandon, and Great Information! Thank You.
Such a great useful video without unnecessary rubbish talks and show time
I really want Brandon to try and film using a MFT camera like Panasonic GH5. I wonder how he will set it up in a run and gun fashion.
as usual an EXCELLENT video! thank you! your reviews are amazing 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

King 👑 is back ❤️🔥🔥🔥🔥
You are the best, really. So impressed and inspired. Are you based out of Thailand?
Thanks, I spend a lot of time in Thailand but I’m actually a nomad. No home base.
Thanks for all infos 👍👍
What lens(es) would you recommend for Filmmakers? I was thinking to get the 24-70 from sony or sigma..
Brandon, can you make a video on how to best achieve focus when using a gimbal. I'm trying to get the laowa 15mm you recommended, but I've never used MF on gimbal. I trust your information and experience. Appreciate you in advance for all you do for this community!!
Nice review & easy to compare each lenses.
Thank you for taking the time to give us knowledge and an experience of excellence.
