    Kemp should be talked about with Barkley & Malone as the one of the great power forwards. In his prime he took both of them on and beat them. Sonics had the best record percentage wise for the league for all the years Kemp played for them. He got more votes than anyone for finals MVP against Jordan's bulls. Its also what he did for basketball. He was the highlight show for dunks. He got millions of people following basketball because of his play. Dont think people realise how important he was to the NBA

      Kemp deserves to be in the hall of fame just because of the NBA finals in year 1996. They didn't win but watch his dunks on Pippen, Jordan, and Rodman altogether. It was crazy to see someone who can posterize them altogether.

    #40...Always my favorite. These 2 men got me into basketball back in the day. As a young 10yr old in 1993, growing up in East Tennessee at that!!!! We don't have a team anywhere around. Memphis?lol...No. No ties to Seattle, or even Washington state at all, but to this day, I still rep the Sonics, Mariners, and recently the Kraken...all that from these 2, my favorite players....Couldn't believe Shawn was ever traded. He hit the nail on the head, they should've kept those 2 together, and they were the Jazz for 3 or 4 more years ATLEAST... Shawn being traded really hurt. I lost interest for a few years, then the Ray Allen years in 04-05 got back into it a little bit. Joined the military, then BAM....No more Sonics??? I'm supposed to be an OKC fan now? Nah fam...I'm good. I haven't been into the NBA since. I so hope to see A TEAM return to Seattle. I can only hope the name might stick. I'll be a fan from day one. Cheers! P.S. Just discovered the Simply Seattle shop, have $130 bucks in Merch already in the cart. Can't wait to sport it here in Knoxville, TN :) Green & Gold baby. Green & Gold.

    I love Shawn Kemp’s attitude on the hall of fame. And he should be in. The basketball hall of fame is different then the MLB and NFL. Their requirements are far less stringent. Avidus Sebobonis is in. Is there a person out there who thinks he had a bigger influence on the game and culture of basketball then the Rain Man? I don’t know, maybe I’m too biased, but it seems to me I could make a far better argument for Shawn then several men already in the Hall.

    • @user2176
      @user2176 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      totally agree, Kemp had an impact on an entire generation of kids who wanted to be like him and dunk like him. He had the star quality and the " IT" factor, and he was one of the most skilled PF's ever especially at that time when big men were expected to play big and have kind of a stiff bruising style. Prime Kemp vs. Prime Bosh, who do you take on your team? and who dominates head to head in that match up?

    • @DocHolliday-hz6iy

      @@user2176 admittedly bias, I take Kemp, but only if it’s at their prime. Bosh’s prime lasted much longer, but when Kemp was at his peak, he was a force. Not to take anything away from Bosh, dudes a stud, but I’ll rock with the Rain Man.

    One of Shawn's points for being in the Hall of Fame is his athletics. No one moved like him for his size. No one. His strength for his size was unheard of at the time. He could jump out of any gym. His shot improved big time as his career went on. I believe Kemp should be in. I could see why they say no too. Didn't have the longevity. @@marked4death076 dude it was crammed at the showbox sodo and every line (beer, restroom, ticket, etc.) was front to the back, just insane right? I'm in the restroom line and I see a tall dude getting clearance through all the lines and I was like no way, it's the Reign Man lol in my mind, I was like that guy can pee before me but he was just getting through the food line I think lol the crowd was so much younger and, sadly, maybe not really familiar with their local legends. They didn't even know who was gracing them with his presence lol but I hurried up and found him in the booth that does all the lighting and sound (which is blocked off from the crowd) and said "Shawn, you gotta let me get a pic wit you!" The security were about to haul me off but Shawn was like hell no, let this dude in for a bit. We embraced, I gotta pic and watched a song with him. It was badass. He's humble and a total gentleman

Shawn Kemp was in his prime when I was in High School and I remember being the only kid in my entire school (TC Williams…yes the movie Remember The Titans was about my High School) to have a Kemp Jersey and people clowned me and Shawn started dunking on EVERYBODY!! Needless to say everyone’s tune changed!

    From reading comments I can see that people don't understand scoring in the 90's. Shawn Kemp averaged around 19pts for about 8 seasons which during the 90's was a very good scoring avg. Not to many players were avg. 20+. Even a hof such as Reggie Miller hovered around 21pts and he's considered a great scorer. So I think context needs to be added the convo. He should definitely be in the hall of Fame.

      Not to mention it wasn't just the power forwards he was dominating, Hakeem, Mourning, Ewing, The Admiral, Mutombo and then add in all the great PF's as well, he was a force.

I don't have a ton of memories from 76 to 89 for some reason, moved up to Seattle in 89 and started watching the Sonics right when both these guys started their careers. If I could sum up my "childhood" it would immediately be these two along with Det & Big Smooth. Such amazing memories, thanks for doing the interview!

    I had fun watching these 2 back in the day, good to see they we're having fun doing it. I live in Wizards territory so I only got to see them in person once. I think they were still the Bullets back then, I was already a Sonics fan but those 2 blew me away in person. Kemp had a crazy block/steal off a lay up attempt then ran down court and dunked. Even with 80% + being Wizards/Bullets fans, the whole place went nuts. Ill have to look again but I think it's on Kemp's highlight reels.
