Correction: Dennis Johnson - not Gus Williams - went 0-for-14 from the field in Game 7 of the 1978 NBA Finals. (Williams had a rough game, too, though, going 4-for-12 in the loss.) 😬

DJ owned it too and felt he'd let the team and himself down in that game and vowed to never let it happen again. He credits that game and the determination that stemmed from it for becoming one of the greatest clutch players in NBA playoff history.

Great defense ability he guarded Magic when they played the Lakers. He Was part of that great Boston team in the 80s.
When I saw him play ,years later,.in retro NBA, games,.Gurding Magic Jhonson, Moving so fast, Scoring with great movements, (he was an Athlete)I asked my self, Who is this great player? Why is every one talking about Magic Jhonson, while there was another Jhonson who was in my opinion in the same level Magic was. Dennis could Dribble, protect the ball,.make great Passes like Magic . His defense was great as well.

With Dennis Johnson was with Seattle I think he was at his best. He was Finals MVP for Seattle. He was the point guard with Boston but the shooting guard in Seattle & he could score. He still had his athleticism with Seattle and one game he had blocked 8 shots!! A 6'4" guard with 8 blocked shots in a game. Seattle had the best version of him but he was still excellent with Boston. The Celtics got him to run the point and play defense on Andrew Toney and Magic Johnson

@@mongoslade277 Ye, he moved on to a stronger team the Seattle. Dough Seattle did do well in the 80s. Giving him to guard Magic and Tony, Tony would score 30 points on Boston.. So giving the Job of Guarding Tony to Dennis showes he was a great Defensive player as well. I used to be a Seattle fan...Gary and Kemp...

Entertaining. However, I felt that Dennis Johnson was a bit undersold in this two part series. DJ (RIP) was the finals MVP in 1979 and clearly an equal to Gus "The Wizard" Williams. With Downtown Freddie Brown in reserve, that was one of the finest back courts of the era. In addition, how about coach Wilkens changing almost the entire 77-78 starting line-up with Fred Brown, Slick Watts, Leonard Gray and Paul Silas going to the bench and The Wizard, Dennis, JJ and Sikma installed around The Human Eraser? Incredible transformation. Wilkens was robbed of Coach of the Year that season to Hubie Brown in Atlanta 🙂 Also: No mention of Lonnie Shelton (RIP), starting power forward for the championship team when Webster went free agent (Lonnie was compensation in the deal with the Knicks).

And Lenny was so cool and collected, I just loved the entire team. My uncle played with Sikma at St. Anne in highschool. Lonnie Sheldon was one of the best power forward enforcers in the league. Downtown Freddie Brown was like electric coming off the bench. And Gus at the two spot had so much shit going to the bucket it was amazing. I cant remember the small forward his name was John something. I just remember him playing smart D.
