      The americans had:
      The "Shortbull" which looked like a T-95 with a huge turret with a 105mm gun, and the "T69E3" which looked like an M5 stuart with an M4A1 turret and kinda resembled the Excalibur from WoT and had a 76mm gun.
      The germans had:
      The "E-79" like you saw on the video, and the "Schnellpanzer" which looked like TD version of a Leopard 1 that kinda looked like a longer and wider Jagdpanther... Oh and it also had a gas turbine engine which made it the fastest tank in the game.
      Both tanks were fitted with different guns depending on the year of the battle you were playing. Either 8.8cm or 12.8cm gun for the "E-79", and either a short 7.5cm gun, a long 7.5cm L/70 gun OR a long 8.8cm gun for the "Schnellpanzer"
      And the Soviets had:
      The "SU-122" which was a TD version of an elongated T-34 hull with a 122mm gun and it kinda looked like a bigger SU-100, and another tank which name I cannot remember but I remember it looked like a rounded KV-2 turred on an IS-2 hull and it had an 152mm howitzer.

    The coolest thing about this tank is that it was designed by the legendary Mamoru Nagano of Five Star Stories fame. It has appeared in some of his illustrations and the turret in particular has made an appearance on top of a hovertank in the Joker Galaxy. Also thanks to Nagano being the boutique mecha designer that he is, this tank's model kit has been made available more times and for far longer than those of its Panzer Front comrades. That may be part of the reason behind this confusion. When the kit was sold as part of the Panzer Front lineup, with a clear understanding that they represent designs taken from the same game, it was harder to mistake it as a real tank. However, once the kit started getting sold on its own without its buddies for context... well...

KwKs (Kampfwagen Kannone(n) = Battle vehicle cannon(s)) were, like the name said, developed from the start as vehicle (mostly tank) based weapons. Like with everything there were some exeptions.

    I remember this game and loved it. Bought it on launch in christmas 1999 from a GAME in the UK. If I remember correctly, there were several fictional super tanks you could optionally play in place of the historical vehicles but the score would be disabled. There was a jet powered German tank, a couple of American super heavies, and a KV-2 like monstrocity for the Russians.
    In the Bis version of the game, there was a weird story involving a red version of the E79 but that's all I remember.
    Panzer front was great. It had infantry, tons of vehicles, actual objectives to capture, aircraft, weather conditions and a unit formations.

    The tank that Panzer Front showcases is something I could genuinely see Germany develop during WW2. It’s essentially an up-armored Panther, but with a new turret design and better gun, which is something the Germans were very obsessed with.
    But c’mon, really? A fire control system and infrared in the 1940s? Shell-deflecting armor? That has gotta be the most absurd thing I’ve ever heard people pass off as an actual historical development by the Germans, almost as absurd as the radar-absorbing charcoal paint of the Ho 229.

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the germans had IR in the 1930s, and mass produced them in the 1940s, look up the FG1221 (1000 devices issued to combat units) and FG 1250 (44 units delivered, alongside 10 FG1253). these were actually used in combat, atleast once against the americans and atleast 50 times against the soviets. there was also the FG1229 'vampir' device for the StG 44 (issued to units in feb 1945) 310 units built, no confirmed combat uses.
      edit: range was limited to 500-600m so they also built the Sdkfz 251/20 Uhu to extend effective ranges to ~1250m
      edit 2: the allies also had IR in ww2, the british used IR devices on recon planes to scout the rhine banks prior to their crossing of the river, and the americans had 500 M3 carbines in combat on Okinawa (and accounted for 30% of japanese small arms casualties in the 1st week of the battle of okinawa, pulling well above their weight) [the M3 carbine was an M2 Carbine with IR sights, 2100 were made in total, vs 500 000 M2s).
      there are other IR projects aswell, but these are the main ones

    • @colbeausabre8842

      @@matthiuskoenig3378 The biggest problem with IR is that it uses an active emitter - in other words, let's become an IR lighthouse. Somebody with an IR scope can operate in receive only mode, pick up your signal and shoot you based on that. And, oh by the way, it picks up your IR signal at a greater distance than your IR emitter can illuminate a target. I was so thankful when we got the M60A1 RISE Passive (which had image intensification (Starlight Scope) devices) and the M60A3 TTS (Tank Thermal Sight) which did a away with that huge IR searchlight and the associated risks of using it in combat.

    To be fair, the Germans did have a primitive tank infrared system in place near the end, but it required a half track to shine an infrared searchlight which would then be picked up by Panthers and I don’t think they ever used it.

    • @matthiuskoenig3378
      @matthiuskoenig3378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you are thinking of the Fahrgerat FG1250 IR night vision equipment, and no it did not need the sdkfz 2511/20 uhu as it had its own built in IR (12v 200W) search light. the Uhu was for lighting up long range targets beyond the 500m range of the FG1250.
      44 pnther tanks deployed with the devices (and training to use them) into combat, 10 of which also had the FG1253 driver's IR device. Panzer Division Clausewitz reported useing them on the very early morining (02:00) on the 21st of April 1945 against allied infantyr and anti-tank guns along reichsstrasse 248 at the Weser-Elbe-Kanal bridge just east of Fallersleben. this is the only confirmed use of the FG1250 in combat. (the other confirmed uses were in marches at night)
      the ZG 1221 IR device was also sent into combat units (on marder IIs) (1000 devices delivered), these were used in combat on the eastern front (50 confirmed), and its combat experience with this that the sdkfz 251/20 uhu was made for later in the war.
