The previous card rogue like Tainted Grail Conquest is really good, not my genre but I played the heck out of it. And prior to the game becoming a card game, it was actually supposed to be a crpg, but was changed mid dev.
@@armoredchimp yeah you could make some really interesting builds with that game. Sadly I think I beat the game? It felt like I did at least. Not entirely sure with roguelikes. But yeah I wish the game had more content to it.
I'm glad this is in Early Access. Bigger developers release these types of games in rough shape and it has to be a lot more difficult for a smaller team. I hope the EA model works out well for them. I think the variety of ability types is going to determine how good the game winds up being though. You can get away with the "click on enemies until they die" combat if there are a bunch of other ways to solve problems.
I personally don’t like early access for one so many games in early access never amount to what they wanted to be or never even get finished and two games like baldurs gate 3 the wow factor won’t be there because it’s been in EA for years
Thanks so much for this! I've been keeping an eye out on this. Not even sure where I first saw it, but it ended up in my wishlist. Your video popped up first in the google search and I'm glad it did. It was very useful. Now I just hope my $30 leads to a fun finished game! (Yeah, I've been burned by EA before so don't usually bother, but this one has me excited. The more support, hopefully the better (and actually finished) the game!)
I've had this on my Wishlist forever and have been on the fence about getting it in EA. After this video, though, I'll probably dive in and help support the devs; looks pretty decent, if a bit clunky still. I too really like the atmosphere. Appreciate the info.
Perception for lockpicking actually sounds just right. It's more about figuring out what's going on inside the lock than dexterity. Nothing on 2, click on 3, 4 is binding...
So glad you took a look at this! I got acquainted to the universe through their Tainted Grail: Conquest. A roguelite-card style combat game. I played the demo and enjoyed it, but waited to see how the large game looked.
I really hope modders pick this game up when it's done because once they get rid of the most obvious issues this game seems like an incredible framework for all sorts of mods. Yeah sure skyrim is also a great framework for modding where you can completely overhaul it to the point of not even resembling the game you bought, but here we've got a game that already comes with actual RPG elements like attributes, proficiencies and skill points.
I'm literally only checking this game's reception and giving thumbs up for YTbers covering it, cuz I'm gonna wait for v 1.0 to not spoil my fun. I'm glad it seems like it has potential and ppl support it - without support, we couldn't even dream of devs finishing their work.
Playing it recently. It's really good and fun. Great to see a game that takes itself seriously. Just wish it was better optimized. Understandable, considering it's in early access and not AAA
This game is giving me flashbacks to TES: Oblivion in terms of the graphical style and environmental design; even the amount of 'clutter' found in the starting prison area. Seems like it would be fun to play. I'd probably try a full Necromancer build, if possible. I wonder if summoned skeletons would trigger the 10% mana restored upon enemy kill effect...
So I've given it a try, and while I really like what I've seen so far, this still feels like a VERY early build. I'm definitely having some frame rate issues. Based on how good Tainted Grail: Conquest turned out, I'm hoping they can really polish this into an incredible adventure.
Looks good, whilst I enjoy games like Skyrim, I dont like Souls type games (I am old now and cba with all that jumping and rolling), I may have to look into this one
all that art work makes me think dark souls and it would make for and amazing map and boses and more, imagine the last boss as arthur and you a random that is going to slay him for becoming mad with power
The game looks really ambitious for such a small developer (I wonder what the size of the team is) so finishing it might take a long time if they want to get it polished (unlike other indie devs which are forced to release unfinished projects when they run out of money).
I played the boardgame that it all started from. Love the world and the Wibe. And that game was essentialy just a HUGE "choose your own adventure" game. And I love those. Good to see the world still going. Both on computers and ona new edition of the board game
So little RPGs in FPP/TPP (and not being pixel artsy) I'll buy it even in Early Access. Starvation is real. edit - somehow reminds me Siege of Avalon with the theme?
Is first person mode the only one available? I hope not, because this looks like it's a lot of fun, but I don't do first person very well. Whenever I play a Bethesda game I always switch to third person
Very ambitious project, although I'll probably wait till it nears its 1.0 launch before checking it out. Been holding off on getting into story based RPGs in early access like Balder's Gate 3 as I don't want to have to stop halfway through the game.
I went to check this game out but it was all greyed out. Then I found it in my library already. I don't remember buying it. I have been pretty much on the fence about it. I guess I'll go check it out now.
Looks really cool, been keeping an eye on this. Weird not to have controller support in 2023 though, considering how many PC players choose controller over m+k.
I've been curious about this one for a while, played the demo and have watched a number of the reviews/videos etc. It seems cool and well polished for early access, but I can't overcome what I see as hyper similarities to Skyrim, from art style to most of the gameplay mechanics. I want to get Tainted Grail, but whats the difference from just starting a new Skyrim run?
I really can't understand why no one else (aside from Obsidian making Avowed) has even attempted to make an Elder Scrolls-clone, especially since Bethesda has for reasons beyond understanding waited a decade and a half to make the sixth installment.
Much prefer Tainted Grail Conquest, the deck building rogue like that came out previously, but I wish them success. Hope they're able to set themselves apart from the Elder Scrolls series, which, like it or not, this game is going to be compared to constantly.
I want to but game says min req is 6 gb vega 😭 Those vega min requirements keep getting higher and higher. Game looks like the love child of Skyrim and Dark Souls. I wish I could try it.
While there is nothing particularly bad to see in the video (maybe the combat), there´s also nothing that makes the game stand out. It kinda looks like any other 1st-person-rpg ever. I don´t know the board game and/or the lore of the games world and maybe it´s great. So far it doesn´t look like something I feel the urge to play, tho.

Here is a video idea for you Mort: "Top 10 RPG that DO NOT start in a prison"! 😀 Lets see if you can even find 10 candidates... And the DoS 2 ship is a prison, thank you very much. But more seriously, thanks for this video, this looks so generic that I doubt I will play that over 10 other games, certainly not pre-ordering. Enjoy the board game, it is considered very good though quite expensive. I foresee a much higher price tag than 30$ considering the IP.
I make bullet points while I play and on the basic info people will want to know, and then organize that to flow well with my natural speaking voice. I struggle to sound like a human being when I'm reading a script
@@MortismalGaming Awesome, thanks for the tips. I'm slowly building courage to start my own review channel, and the thought of writing and practicing a script for every video was overwhelming.
The fact you can’t play in third person is usually a deal breaker for me, which sucks a lot I wish I would just get over that, but I prefer third person or even batter first and third person switchable gameplay, as seen in Bethesda titles. Too many games are dropping the third person over the shoulder perspective these days 😢 good video mortismal

An aside from: It’s pretty cool how the bodies are realistic. Most games go for a V-Taper as if most people don’t have hips.
this looks extremely similar to Skyrim
It took me way too long to find a comment like this, 100% agree
This is basically Skyrim: Arthurian Legend version
Its so cool to see you getting more and more opportunities to get early game keys!

God fucking damnit I’m never early enough
It's crazy that a AAA game from 2013 (Skyrim) is on par with an indie game from 2023. Not complaining at all, it's just interesting.
Skyrim came out in 2011
Reminds of a cross between oblivion and skyrim
Yeah a lot of people compare it to skyrim, but it feels more Oblivion to me
I have a free copy of this game and I have no idea why, suppose I'll try it if Morti is positive about it.
There's a shield in one of the rooms of the starter prison. You must have missed it.
It's possible they were added with the EA launch patch, because I mean they were not shields to be found period in the version I was playing

That’s a deal breaker
This just got a big update, not it's final update, but a big one.
Imagine a first person melee combat system to the FatShark Warhammer games but in a RPG.
It reminds me a lot of the Elder Scrolls.
perception being a governing attribute for lockpicking makes sense imo. You need to feel the feedback from the lock's pins after all.
I agree, its just usually under Dexterity so I thought it was worth mentioning
Why would "perception" be odd for "lockpicking"? Lockpicking should require tactile perception of the picks plus listening or "sound perception"
Oh its fine, its just usually under Dexterity for most games, just a slight difference compared to the usual I wanted to point out
