- Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon's latest massive new update 0.6 Judgement of the Excalibur is out right now, and you can get the game right here: store.steampow...
Thank you so much to Awaken Realms for sponsoring this video!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I love how amazing Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon feels despite being little more than halfway through its Early Access versions! This is an open world first person only RPG, and it shows from the beginning. Tainted Grail offers a dark world with a rich lore, and somehow manages to combine so many great aspects of the Elder Scrolls series (Skyrim) and games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring, with Arthurian legends, creating a deep and dangerous universe where you really need to think ahead.
Despite not being finished yet, update 0.6 Judgement of the Excalibur brings so many new improvements and upgrades to the game, most of which - and more - you can see in this video. In other words, is Tainted Grail worth it? Should you buy Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon in 2023 after the 0.6 update? I hope you enjoyed this early review, preview, and my impressions of Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon, and let me know your thoughts on this dark fantasy RPG that marries old school mechanics with modernized gameplay designs, and make sure to leave a like and a comment down below :)

"Talk about Tainted Grail without mentioning Skyrim challenge, impossible difficulty"
honestly the combat system looks perfect
the right balance between intresting but not to flashy, realistic but still powerfull, fast paced but not hack and slash
The demo was intriguing, but damn, wow, it has improved so much. Halfswording with a greatsword? Mmmmm count me in! Combat sure has improved!
Yes it has!
This came out of nowhere! Looks incredible
Glad you liked it! :D
I bought this game just now since I loved tainted grail conquest which is an amazing game. Love the music, bosses and the atmosphere. So this game being an open world of that universe gave me a hard one lol.
Is it finally playable outside of the tutorial area? Because this game looks so amazing and I love Tainted Grail the board game. I want to visit those familiar places in a video game as well.
It is better now, FSR has been integrated also
Yes it's very playable indeed!
It stutters bad I refunded it
Playing the game as we speak. I very much enjoy it
This looks amazing and I never heard of it until your video. I'm sending you the receipt :)
lol, glad to hear it resonated with you ;)
Wow! I was waiting for games like that! Great.
Do this game have visible body and legs of player character?
This looks cool, thanks for the spotlight
My pleasure, glad I could put it on your radar :)
This team and Piranha Bytes have so much potential for being only 30 person studios
Awaken Realms really pushes the boundaries with every endeavour they do. Crowdfunding platform? Gamefound is amazing and really is only missing an app. Board games? Their library speaks for itself, especially their rankings on BGG. And now their digital team is doing really great for games.
I was looking for sumnt to play during small D4's burnout, I found it, can't wait to try it out, looks awesome and thanks for the review
How's the physics engine? Ragdolling and interactable environments are really important to me when it comes to 1st person arpgs.
This game looks fun. It's a shame there isn't visible damage on enemies and dismemberment though.
Yet...
The best parts of the boardgame were by far the story, mood and art, and if they've managed to keep that in videogame form I will absolutely devour this
I'll play it when it releases, didn't know Danheim made the music, that's pretty cool
It really is!
Holy hell! This video was made 6 months ago?! I didn't even know this game existed! I've been playing the board game for months now, and I guess I'll be picking up the game soon as well!
how much content is in the game? is it fully open world, or is the early access restricted? how much story and sidequests are there?
been looking at this as its on sale right now. it looks really interesting.
i'm a bit mixed on changing the weapons crafting system. When the Early Access first came out, lots of people played playthroughts. one thing i noticed, and loved, is how well integrated the story, missions, and crafting system melded together. There's a book you can find (in game) that explains how Excalibur might in fact be an elaborate hoax, as it's most noted trait is it's ability to "shine with the light of 30 torches...", and that making a sword do that isn't that hard. Since the character themself has the ability to attache' charms to weapons to improve thier ability, that enhances the books argument.
Thank you so much for this nice review! This game is on my GoG wishlist for quite a while now and I think it's time to grab it. There's just two questions: In the video you said "save often", does this mean this game has free manual saving? And: Is there a menu to rebind the keys? I'm a leftie so I can't play WASD.
Thank you again :)
1. It has autosaves and free manual saves.
2. You *can* remind all of the keys.
@@seanmagee42 Cool! Thank you very much
Wow this is great! Do you think it is worth waiting for a full release or is it worth it in its current state?
If you like this kind of games definitely now, you will save some money toward final release.
It's on sale right now so if you're gonna get it anyway, might as well do it now. But if you can't stomach some early access vibes and want the full experience right away, then I'd suggest waiting and seeing what'll come in the future!
Does it still have performance issues? I played it a while back and the fps wasn’t great
Much improved!
@@AdamZasadny Ok good to know, will try playing again then
question how menny times did the game crash?
even the only silent NPC is interesting to interact with with Mute Finley he uses head nods while you ask questions
it took me 10hours to 100% that chapter 1
I'm not a big fan of RPG, but this looks fuckin' metal. Gotta recommend this to my baby brother.
That half swording tho
Anybody playing this on Controller ? How’s the support ?
Well the last time he introduced me to a game was mechabellum...and that is an amazing game in my opinion. So I am gonna check that out
Love that! Hope you like what you see, mate
Looks incredible!!!!
Love to hear it!
The combat reminds me of a mix between Skyrim and Kingdom Come Deliverance…this might be worth checking out lol
Danheim music in a video game, gods damnnnnnnnnnnnn
This is right up my street. Skyrim but darker. Av my money
I'm wondering if you still take health damage when you block with a sheild
You do still take *some* damage, but if you time your block perfectly you take no damage and stagger the enemy.
@@seanmagee42That sounds perfect. Thanks for sharing, sean.
Love this game and with more updates it's gonna be epic lore is really cool too
Please, try to not take the game developer itself as a sponsor to the very game itself. Before anyone comes criticizing me this is simply business ethics.
What are you talking about
Impressive, very nice. Let's see the games steam page
If I could free the poor giants then this is GOY for 2024 developers. And free the dude on the rock also!
Never heard of this game before and now I do. Off to buy.
Hope you like it :D
5:08 I'm not sure if it's fair to judge or dunk on bethesda for a game that came out in 2011 compared to a game that came out now, game design has changed a lot since then and people seem very happy with the combat in Starfield
Starfield's gunplay is fine, but the close combat system is just as boring as it ever was
Correct.. but Bethesda is a huge company (at least for gaming)
While this game only have sub 30 dudes trying to make a game without a big budget
Bethesda had employee, budgets, fans..etc still.. they released a game full of bugs based on 2000 something engine (ehich is broken)
Also, Bethesda relied on modders to fix their game.. so once again.. why U think it's not fair to judge Bethesda for a 2011 game? (which released than re-released as special Edition, then re-re-released as anniversary edition?) they fking milk it for 10+ years already Lol
Great review, man. This ones been on my radar for awhile but im always a little hesitant when itcomes to early access games. Theres nothing worse than getting invested in something and then 8t never becoming finished. Do the devs have any projections or a road map for when the game will be completed?
Thank you, that means a lot! You can check out some of the FAQ here :) steamcommunity.com/app/1466060/discussions/0/4911755446842001308/
No 3rd person... 😔
I played the demo. It was poorly optimized. My gtx 1650 runs it on Low specs, but sometimes there are FPS drop spikes. It is very similar to Skyrim.
The combat reminds me of vermintide
Has this game been optimised yet? I bought it and refunded about a year ago because it just didn't run very well. The game itself was fun though.
Trusting a Video which is sponsored by the Publisher...ya....
Takes the Bethesda formula, but doesn't squander it
Your doing the Q , I made that exact same mistake, the games instructions are a bit unpollished you can actually drink the food using B
First Person can work if they add cut scenes where you can see your character. Like in Kingdom Come.
The game is super fun but this new update runs like shit on my 3080. I can barely keep 40 fps. 😂
It runs a lot better than before apparently, but yes, it's only the 0.6 version, so hopefully it can be improved even more :D
@@AndysTake Their patch notes claimed a 30% to 40% performance increase yet it runs worse than it did pre-update, at least for me. I'll be waiting, once again, for them to optimize it further before playing more.
@@shamrockjack3680 U sure? am getting 90 fps 1800p on my 7900xtx
COuld be your CPU maybe? try to reduce settings that effect CPU directly (like shadow & distance..etc)
aww shit, i need to buy this
Played the demo, have to say it ain’t even coming close to Skyrim tbh especially with mods Skyrim is pinnacle rpg gaming still to this day
isn't it supposed to be more like daggerfall but with better combat?
@@bradlesmcgee9566this is NOTHING like Daggerfall
@@LostHorizons0 lmfao, okay. I was just making a comparison.
@@bradlesmcgee9566 not sure why it’s so funny. I laterally have been playing Daggerfall since 97 and I’m telling you it’s not like Daggerfall. Not really meant to be a joke just stating a fact.
@@LostHorizons0 What’s funny is that you’re taking it so seriously, besides why are you still playing Daggerfall? That game wasn’t even that great 🤣
finally, maybe the fall of Bethesda isn't a bad thing, now other developers are picking up the slack
First person is best person, especially for roll playing games. Third person is death to immersion.
Immersion when it comes to the perspective of gameplay is subjective. I personally love playing games in first-person, but am okay/love it when games give me the option of third-person, or are in third-person only.
only bad thing is: they used the wrong engine. unity can sh************
I tried the demo last year and quit in disgust when a hostile NPC got stuck on a corner of a tower, stood there and took 12 headshots with arrows before it died. What a joke.
To be fair, this combat system is just Chivalry / Mordhau / Kingdom Come: Deliverance, but worse.
That isn't close to a fair comparison..but okay lol
To be fair you can just not play it
magnifique
Dark fantasy again? Why do all fantasy games have to be "dark" these days, especially since it is using King Arthur and the Holy Grail as direct inspiration?
I'm not saying that things can't be grim or "mature" in content, but I would have prefered something that is closer to the actual King Arthur story in theme and feel.
kingh arthur total war
From what I see here, the zones all feel tiny and closed, no grand spaces and sense of freedom and wonder, not even average-sized one not filled with doodads and props relevant or not. Character doesn't feel real or organic, he's slow, doesn't animations, sounds, and camera angles reacting properly to what he's doing and what's happening.
I'll see about the rest, but these points are major issues to me in considering giving it a try.
IGN- game is too hard, 2 out of 10
Bethesda fan: Game is ripping off elder's scrolls, 1 out of 10.
Of course, you don't have to like it, but isn't it better to be a good ripoff than a bad original?
Looks way too generic and dull imo, like they had zero ideas and just looked at skyrim and dark souls... pretty lame because there's an unlimited amount of things you can be inspired from when it comes to Fantasy, there are thousands of incredible books, but no, gotta look at what's already out there i guess.
also, this just felt like an ad for the game.
Magic still looks like crap, just like it did in Skyrim
For some reason the art style doesn't work for me, which is wierd since i love grim dark stuff, i guess i just don't like the overly evil looking enemies or archspires, i think I'd like a grim dark dnd style in the sense of monsters and such, mire goblins and strange wild life and less undead, apart from that everything else is looking nice, now i hope they add difficulty options, the easy-normal-hard system isn't satisfying since enemies just become too spongy, id like options like no healing with food, less loot, increase or decrease enemies and player damage, stamina settings, the AI animtion combos feel better than skyrim but alot of the feel too sluggish and easy to parry, honestly the game feels better already tho still have bad fps sometimes and for some reason the game treats saves like you just exited the game and got back in for the first time again
Having played skyrim, dark and darker and a few rpg games in general - I came upon this game by chance and thought I'd give the demo a try. So far I like it, it's nostalgic but also feels pretty fresh in terms of story and the setting. That might sound weird but even with me saying it's a darker version of skyrim, I think it's also pretty original. Give the demo a try if you haven't already...gameplay and combat isn't sluggish at all, very back and forth but something about it is also rewarding.
So Kingdom Come Deliverance, but with Magic. The Swordplay sure reminds me of Kingdom Come.
Bought this today! I am in a void after finishing BG3 and Cyberpunk.
Awesome! I hope you enjoy it! :)
Certainly I am enjoying it. Very promising. Reminds me of Skyrim and Kingdome Come the Deliverance. For the devs one suggestion. Make the sounds more addicting and immersive. @@AndysTake
Combat is a bit fucked, You have a slow stamina drain for the bow but a fast, an actual stamina drain to the block. It was very confusing before I realized it, you actually loose stamina on holding a block?? Otherwise it seems fine
Well think about holding up a shield. Its tiring.
Yet another streamlined rpg with an interface made for the casuals on the couch, pass.
Yes because your obviously superior to casual gamers.
Huh??
