  • Rare behind-the-scenes access to the Taliban spokesman as local Afghans confront him about the failed economy and broken promises of women’s and minority rights.
With unprecedented access from Kandahar to Kabul, the Taliban’s main spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid opens the doors to the presidential palace. He takes us to the centre of the Taliban’s transition from rebel fighters to the nation’s leaders.
Charged with orders from the Taliban’s reclusive supreme leader, Mullah Haibatullah Akhunzada, Mujahid faces the stresses that come with governing a divided and traumatised country of 40 million people. In Afghanistan, human rights are under attack and the economy is crumbling.
Powerful businessmen, bold Hazara leaders and a fearless woman activist confront Mujahid about the Taliban’s many unfulfilled promises. He knows the stakes are high for an administration which is not formally recognised by the rest of the world.
Taliban Palace is a documentary film by Michael Healy and Najibullah Quraishi.

I actually served in Afghanistan from 07-09 with the US Army. It is such a beautiful country with hard working people. I lost several friends over there flighting with the Taliban and now I agree.....Peace. There was no reason for us to be over there for that long. Obviously I was there as a soldier and at war but someday I hope to return and travel the country in a peaceful manner and visit where my brothers died.

unfortunately most of the population in Afghanistan remains very tribal and poorly educated and this reflects in their attitudes towards gender roles in society. Decades of war and poor government has not helped the situation obviously. At least they have some kind of peace and stability now. Even the Taliban will evolve over time to be more progressive. I hope the civil activists in Afghanistan will keep working with the Taliban to win their rights for a better society. They've got to keep chipping away at the block because cultural change takes a lot of time and steady effort by well-meaning groups of people. I wish them well.

But due to the constant interference from Western societies, they're trying to keep their country as stable as possible, even if that means sacrificing the rights of females in order to avoid political/scholarly divisions... They actually said that women don't have a right to an education because Allah created them inferior to men, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. If they care about the Afghan people so much why are there dead bodies hung for all to see on the streets and public demonstrations of capital of punishment?

Can you spell 'propaganda'? It seems Qureishi does not truly love or serve Afghanistan. Taliban have made great achievements in this one year, but none of that was mentioned. Btw, I am not affiliated with the Emirates, I am just an ordinary Afghan citizen who loves his country. And seeing traitors like Qureshi makes me sad and angry at the same time.

Hey Al Jazeera, I've observed an omission in the translation of a key part of the Taliban spokesman's speech in one of your recent videos, specifically around the 6:12 mark. At this point, he addresses the respect and protection afforded to women in Islam, but the subtitled translation seems to leave out significant elements of his statement.
As a native Farsi speaker, I can discern that the nuances in this section are not fully represented, which could lead to misunderstandings about the content of the speech. For the sake of accurate and comprehensive reporting, I would kindly suggest a review of this particular segment to ensure that the translation aligns faithfully with the spokesman's words. It would greatly benefit the clarity and reliability of the information presented.

I am Pashtun from Pakistan and I understood the language Zabiullah Mujahid spoke in the documentary. I have noticed that the reporter did not mention exactly what he said, especially in favor of women. For example, at 6:13, he stated, 'First, we need to create a safer environment for women.' He emphasized that there is no hostility against women but rather a focus on the dignity and respect that Islam teaches us towards women. The reporter completely omitted the part regarding women's rights. It appears that Al Jazeera either missed it or deliberately chose not to mention it.

Islam is a religion of justice not equality. But women are equal with men in terms of reward, remaining steadfast in faith and doing righteous deeds, in enjoying a good life in this world and a great reward in the Hereafter. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):
“Whoever works righteousness - whether male or female - while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him We will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and We shall pay them certainly a reward in proportion to the best of what they used to do (i.e. Paradise in the Hereafter)”

In Islam there is absolutely no difference between men and women as far as their relationship to Allah is concerned, as both are promised the same reward for good conduct and the same punishment for evil conduct. The Qur'an says:
And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women. (2:226)
The Qur'an, in addressing the believers, often uses the expression,'believing men and women' to emphasize the equality of men and women in regard to their respective duties, rights, virtues and merits. It says:
For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient and constant, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in Allah's praise, for them has Allah prepared forgiveness and great reward. (33:35)
This clearly contradicts the assertion of the Christian Fathers that women do not possess souls and that they will exist as sexless beings in the next life. The Qur'an says that women have souls in exactly the same way as men and will enter Paradise if they do good :
Enter into Paradise, you and your wives, with delight. (43:70)
Who so does that which is right, and believes, whether male or female, him or her will We quicken to happy life. (16:97)

This does not show what some of the Taliban have been doing to our brothers and sisters in Christ. This spokesman's face is not the face of every Taliban. Even if this man is not lying, the Taliban have not been able to control their own men. There are many who want it back to the old ways of death and destruction. But our Father in heaven knows His children and brings them safely home as martyrs. May the love of Jesus fill every Afghan's heart. Amen.

I am from mazaar e sharif Afghanistan and inside the mazar e sharif blue mosque there was a big pot like structure which ha alot of locks hanging. People used to believe that if they open the lock by putting pressure on it it means their life is easy and successful and if can't open it means they will face difficulty this and that bla bla. I was always against that because its prohibited in islam and now Taliban have banned such activities in mosque for which i am very happy.

Read this: Afghanistan is a multilingual country with several languages spoken across its diverse ethnic and linguistic groups.
The official languages of Afghanistan are Pashto and Dari(A Dialect of Persian/Farsi), which are also the most widely spoken languages in the country.
Pashto: Pashto is the first language of the Pashtun ethnic group, which constitutes a significant portion of the Afghan population. It is an Indo-European language and is predominantly spoken in the eastern and southern parts of the country.
Dari (Persian/Farsi): Dari is a dialect of Persian/Farsi and serves as the "lingua franca" for communication among various ethnic groups in Afghanistan.
"Lingua franca" refers to a common language or a bridge language that is used for communication between people who speak different native languages. It is a language adopted as a medium of communication for trade, diplomacy, or other interactions where there is a need for mutual understanding among speakers of different languages.
It is the second most widely spoken language in the country and is primarily spoken in urban areas and by the Tajik ethnic group.
