Best sailing channel hands down. No pretend drama and no made-up fake personalities trying to be cool. This couple is the real deal. Beautiful footage, amazing narration and editing. Roxy being Roxy and Kate always smiling. Keep having fun and stay safe. Bill
I have observed many times that "performance" cats often don't seem to average speeds over longer distances that I would expect. On my own monohulls I frequently average 200 mile days and the Outremers and HH's etc don't seem any faster. I sailed from Fii to New Caledonia last year leaving at the same time as two Outremers. I put half a day on them on what was a rough, windy trip. Similarly I have out distanced cats on the trip from Tonga to NZ by a similar margin.
That is awesome! Your sail was apparently almost all down wind and you beat that Outremer sled on a race that long. If it were an upwind race you would have beat them by something close to a day. You two know how to make cruising fun while keeping your sailing skills well honed. That International bottom paint must be amazing too.
Love that you guys smoked the cocky French cat! Also want to say how much I appreciate the way you encourage each other while sail handling and maneuvering. I hear lots of "good job" and great job". This is something my wife and I always try to do. We've heard too many couples yelling and blaming each other when things go a little sideways. This can only make things worse! We wonder how miserable their marriages must be in general. Keep up the good vibes on Sweet Ruca! SV Matcha
Hey guys!!! you are just amazing. The channel is really a good entertainment, no drama as many out there, no bla bla as monologues, you are talking and doing, showing us the real adventure. Congratulations and Kate, don't stop smiling!!! Now my question. Why go straight to Amanu and skip the another small islands?.... no time, no interes, are you with an specific schedule???, just asking. TAKE CARE!! 😉😉😊😊
Great question! There is only one small island between Gambier and Amanu/Hao that it is possible to stop, and it is a difficult stop at a supply ship warf with lots of surge. The rest are too small, can’t be entered, or are restricted French military sites (there was atomic bomb testing at some). We would love to stop and explore all of them, but our visa limits our time here.
I think Roxy really understands you, it's amazing and beautiful ❤️ smelling land must be incredible after days at sea. I wonder how many of your viewers have never sailed like myself?
Hats of for Team Ruca! Being faster than a 55 outremer in those conditions wind being from behind most of the time the Outremer should have been a lot faster I think. Go monohulls!
Another great sailing video in a lot of different conditions! Looks like you had your share of squalls along the way. One thing for sure is that the two of you work extremely well together! Keep up the fine sailing videos! The Quartermaster 😊
Girl , we are a ll light wave people, but you went around the horn! You can sail in any conditions mother earth can throw at you. We all know your sailing skills.
Such a great video. It looked pretty tricky going through the squalls. I loved the rainbows. I'm sure glad the Spinnaker survived. Of course, the drone footage is my favorite. Job well done on this one
I had a solid blue color like that as a spinnaker on my Nacra 6.0 catamaran. It was one of the first catamarans with a spinnaker so after using it for a while, I realized that it wasn't the best cut and was trying to figure out what cut would be a better fit for a boat that went much faster than a monohull but didn't have the money to get a different one so I sold the boat and got a Nacra 5.8 and plus it was a much tamer boat to handle. The 6.0 was a beast and I wasn't heavy enough to sail it.
@@SailingSweetRuca I told myself that I wanted to sail around the world one day as soon as I had enough money to do it and actually forgot about that dream till one of my friends reminded me that I had said that to them. I got busy at work making money and now am ready to do it but the economy is really bad and I really do think that these high prices will crash. When the crash happens, that's when I will get a Mumby Cyber 48 like Sailing Life on Jupiter has and sail around the world. I've already sailed across the Atlantic on a 165 ft. gaff rigged schooner called TeVega that is now called DEVA after it got remodeled.
Doesn’t get any better than ending the episode with the Cheshire Cat smile of Curtis….. pleased with his First Mate and the yacht‼️💥💥💥 OMG 😱, super Kate “stand by …..Kate driving” music to the other team player. Don’t know much of sailing in this area, but definitely a machine of experienced teamwork making it happen 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 B. R. A. V. O. 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻 See you next time. ✨🌊💨🌧️🏝️👙🌞✨
Wow. Your sailing as if it is a race makes for a pleasantly serious thread in the storytelling. Beautiful drone takes after the 19 1/2 minute mark or so. Wow visuals.
Absolutely love your channel - great balance between narrated sections and opportunities to just sit back and take in the experience! This episode is one of my favorites as you can tell that the racing instincts are kicking in and you sail the boat harder than otherwise. Would love to see you also doing small "tutorials" sharing some tips and tricks (e.g. maneuvers, sail trim, navigation, communication / coordination etc.) 🙌
Sometimes I feel like you enjoy and look forward to sail changes and sail trimming much more than the average cruiser, or at least that is the sentiment I get from your content.
Great episode. The drone footage was superb. Adding some fun with friends to the daily routine is always great. Nice race with the cat. Thanks for sharing the job well done with constant wind shifts. 👍🏼
Hi guys. Well as you no I have followed you guys forever & love your channel. So upon looking at the subscribe I notice I was unsubscribed. I don't no how but I have heard of this happening to others. Maybe you could alert others. Oh yea. I'm sure you won. Much love to you both.
We think our friends on the cat are fine sailors, but the conditions favored us a bit, medium winds of about 10-12 knots average and a deep angle was favored. That is one of the spots in the polar chart where we can out perform. If it was a 500 mile beam reach it would be a different story, we wouldn’t stand a chance. Upwind and downwind we seem to be able to hold our own with the cats. We all had a fun time and it was great we arrived close together!
While I am Not Personally a fan of Sailboat Racing - due to the negative influences it continues to have on the design and Construction of Cruising Sailboats - excessively Deep Drafts, lightweight hull Construction, Twin Rudders, hazards like Main sheet Tracks in Cockpits etc - I’m Rooting for the Monohull - because Catamarans Hate Me ! While tacking to Windward, it is impossible for both Hulls to connect with a Wave at the same time, and the Result is a violent Corkscrew Bucking Bronco Motion, which seriously does my head in, and almost threw me over the side of the Catamaran - and I haven’t been on one since, so Kick Some Serious Ass Guys.Bob. 🤔🌟🌟🌟🤡🏴🇬🇧❤️🤣

That drone shot from dead astern with Sweet Ruca pulling away into the sun, although only a few seconds....jewelry.

It was a bit tiring but a lot of fun! Thanks for the nice comment
FYI, you can never have too many drone shots of Sweet Ruca sailing in the ocean. Absolutely beautiful. ❤
Haha thank you!

I love it! Even Roxy gets excited about racing. 9:33 - I had to rewind and get a second look. Those are some really lovely grapefruits.

Nacras are beasts! Fast and fun! The last time I sailed one I went around the forestay on the trapeze. That one hurt a bit :-)

Great footage of both boats coming in at the same time. Funny how Roxy smells into the air when you are getting near land.
I love how you and Curtis are truly soulmates ❤
You two are great racers! Even when small things go wrong, you've pushed that J Bat to it's limits plenty of times!
Great episode. I just knew no one could beat Ruca. Love your footage and teamwork.

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner... Go Ruca Go.... :) Great Sailing Guys :) Lovin' BIG BLUE... ❤ Be Safe 🙏

Sounds about right!
Best sailing on TH-cam!

Must be something within the TH-cam algorithm? Maybe we need more silly faces, drama, and bathing suits? 😂 We are glad you are here though!!
Great video!!👏👏👏🙏🙏
Beautiful

The grapefruit at 9:30 are obscene, either that, or I'm a perv 😅
Looked like underwear to me.
Hahaha! Curtis also commented on the grapefruits while editing. At least he wasn’t the only one!
--The response from SSR tends to confirm my guess that the orientation is not random.
--The enquiring mind of this sailor will forever wonder.
We’re you able to keep track of each other on the AIS?
The 55ft cat didn't catch you on a downwind passage. That means they are poor sailors or you guys are still true racers.
