"The Hinamizawa Dam Conflict and the sound novel illustration of the dam area are actually based on the building of the Miboro Dam, which in the end, did result in 4 villages, one temple, and 250 houses being submerged underwater. Two large cherry blossom trees were recovered from the submerged temple and placed in Shirakawa-go, and locals say that in the spring, when the cherry blossoms are blooming, each flower represents a memory of the people from the drowned villages."

You know, this video really showcases the power of a musical score in anime. If you had included music that was lighter in tone, this entire video would have had a different vibe to it. But with Higurashi music in the background, this town feels waaaaaay more sinister. It gave me chills! If I ever take a trip to Japan, this is going to be at the top of my list of places to visit!
Ever since I found out the village actually existed, I've used a overview photo of Shirakawago as a wallpaper on numerous jobs. Colleagues asked "is that Switzerland?"

They do! When I went there, there was a group of cosplayers. At a shrine you can put little wooden drawings up on (idk how to describe exactly), this one Hanyuu cosplayer seemed to go there almost every year and they would put photos of their Hanyuu cosplay up.
We know Higurashi's setting is based on Shirakawago,
but one must wonder if Umineko's mansion is based off somewhere as well...
The mansion in Kyu-Furukawa Gardens in Kita, Tokyo, basis of the exterior of the guest house on Rokkenjima. You can visit it on Google maps. ☺️

the fact that it's modeled after a real village, Just makes it's place in my favorite anime's a little more special. And my god is that scenery breath-taking

So I actually visited Shirakawa-Go last year following your video. I actually stayed a night at a local Hostel, that was really nice and hospitable. (Ant Hut if anybody feels like staying)
Staying the night actually makes the place 10 times more eery. Because at exactly 6 pm the town goes from full of tourists to a complete Ghosttown, it's absolutely crazy. And the town goes from sunset to nightfall in like 10-15 minutes, its absolutely crazy. When i started walking home from the Shrine i put on the Higurashi Soundtrack, on headphones of course. I think we have never gotten that close to real life horror, because the town is so dimly lit you actually do need a flashlight. The experience was absolutetly incredible and i would recommend you guys do it someday. But it's only for the not faint of heart haha!

what happens is the speed at which a statistic is loaded, likes are confirmed faster then views (in case a view is to short to be counted or something) likes are faster cause a person would actively have to like the video, same with comments, so they are faster to be updated then the view count.

Pro tip: if you decided to stay in a hotel around this town for a night or two, remember to bring the flashlight as it was pretty dark(according to the commenters here who had visited before). Oh, also..... Don't walk alone.... you know what happens in higurashi....just don't for safety sake

Best way to learn about shirakawa go! Loved this. Also if you are into history. The town was named after the 77th emperor of japan Go-Shirakawa who many believe played a pivotal role in the downfall of the Heike clan. Descendants of the heike clan are known to still be living in shirakawa Go to this day.
