Never forget the three bully thugs whom mob ambushed catch wrestling teacher Rufino Dos Santos with a metal pipe and permanently crippled him for life, ending his career & ability to work, merely because he defeated one of the thugs in a previous grappling match. Rufino Dos Santos, catch wrestling champion, you're never forgotten. God will judge the cowards whom ruined your life out of jealousy.
that is part of the reason I ended up going into MMA (NHB at the time) I still teach catch chokes to my students and of course the best neck cranks in the world! it served me well back in my competition days..great vid I love seeing catch vids it does not get the credit it deserves.
If catch wrestling had not watered down its style then Gracie jiu jitsu would never have gained popularity. It would have been unnecessary and errellevent in the USA.
You can thank Hackenschmidt vs Gotch for this. Hackenschmidt wrestled hurt, and Gotch won by toe hold into a pin. Everyone thought it was a work, and it helped contribute to many wrestlers moving over to the work side of things. It wasn't a work, it was a shoot. It was just that Hackenschmidt was in such a condition that all the better was called off. For me Catch > BJJ. I'm a bjj practitioner, because I have no catch wrestling around me. I'm not saying for everyone Catch > BJJ. I just would prefer it because I grew up as a wrestler, from 6 to 18, and I can't stand the gi, even after doing BJJ for years (I take as many no gi classes as I can). Again, this isn't to say that no gi is better than gi, just what I enjoy better. And I wish I could drill takedowns like a wrestler again.

Question: do you think it could be possible to create a competition of personalities as in "pro wrestling" with real fighters fighting for real? Or would the "character" part have to be sacrificed for it? Having in mind pro wrestling comes from catch as it was done in circus and other shows like that...
In some parts of Latin America we do it with all thousands. Certainly with years. I can imagine that's the case in other places. Ps. I started making videos again, I appreciate your support!
I mean the progressive era basically ruined everything. It harming grappling arts, the same way implementing Queensbury rules ruined boxing, is not at all surprising.
