They dominated against everyone, until they were finally unmasked, and those big scary black guys had faces. One of which, became the first black World Heavyweight Champion. The man is such a legend, there is only one thing to say about him. Damn.

I do think the Booker T vs Triple H storyline would be looked at far differently.. if Booker overcame all that and beat Triple H. It's the fact Booker T lost..and at Wrestlemania, after all of that, which makes it that much worse.
Booker could’ve at least been slated to get his win back within a Year like they did with Cody. But clearly WWE didn’t truly want that to happen anyways or they would have kept Booker Strong enough to be a Legit candidate for World Title the previous year.
I like that D von said u shouldn't use the N word in front of white people. I was taught that by an OG. I use to say it all the time in front of anybody. And would be pissed of a white person would say it.
As a black woman, I don't use it, period. Something offensive used to demean us, I don't understand how we'd embrace it around each other, and think our ancestors would appreciate that.
I'm Black and I don't use it at all despite growing up around people who always used it. Black people picked up that habit throughout centuries of being called that word so I understand it but I wish a lot would stop. White folks on the other hand shouldn't say it because they're the ones who made it a slur to begin with.
Definitely sounds like Bob Holly is the mystery racist, however Michael Hayes is known racist in the lockeroom; he just gave D-Von a free pass for some reason.
What a crazy video topic, thank you both for sharing experience and helping us viewers understand some deeper things in the old guard. Tbh I don't think I ever thought about them being different colors until they left the WWE lmao
@FanBoy4K Can't say most. That's an over-generalization. I also don't think D-von's explanation was a great one. I can see his point, but he is also an "old-head" in the black community that more than likely just doesn't feel comfortable with the word. The younger generation than him changed the rules. The counter-argument will always be that black people have reclaimed the power that word has from white people that would say it with malice. It's a real phenomenon with lots of different oppressed groups of people in thay they take the racial/homophobic slurs used against them and repurpose them in their favor. The ideology is the same as when a bully would call you "fat" or "ugly," in that if you just lean into the insult, the power those words have against you in a demeaning sense are nullified. It still isn't an excuse or invitation for the bully to still use those words without repercussions. So yeah, rap those words in your car alone all you want...but try it in public and the consequences are yours to handle should they arise.
I appreciate these videos... Maven definitely doesn't make easy to make videos at times. He just goes right for it and holds nothing back, and I love that.

Right. Although, I think he missed that the promo with Vince calling Cena that actually spoke to the very thing he was talking about. You can’t be completely mad at folks that think it’s “cool” to use if they are doing it the same fashion as those that are a part of the hip hop community.
@@halfeatengamer3400 but if it was a white guy im sure it would be okay. Why is that? I think the answer you’re looking for is found within crime stats and trends
I agree with d-von but as a black dude that uses the n-word I think black people should stop being so sensitive about it, sometimes we’re obliviously prejudice to other races so we gotta let it go and not let our emotions be controlled by a word
I’m not entitled to speak on the first half of your statement as a white man. But on that second part talking about the power given to words I want to thank you for saying what you did. I’ve heard numerous legends in wrestling talk about their experiences. The Dudley’s and the APA have both said that the reason why they believe why they worked is because they NEVER played the race card and refused to. In both teams both men were equals and to this day they still are. The other is Gerald Brisco who talks about with time tagging with thunderbolt Patterson two in the Deep South in the 1960s.
The angle of trying to break up the Dudley Boyz was really clever. It's a common tactic in union-busting to try and create racial tension where there doesn't need to be any.
I think we should really piece together who D-Von was referring to that was in Vinces camp that was directly racist to him. If he said it wasn’t Vince, John Laurinits, or Michael Hayes, then that leaves: Jim Cornette, Vince Russo, Kevin Dunne, Jim Ross or someone else.
I don’t think Ric would be considered a “higher up”. A made guy, sure, but not along side the names mentioned. Plus, during the Dudleyz WWF debut, I don’t think Flair was there at the time.
Flair was in WCW until 2001 because he was part of the final WCW main event. Russo was in WCW destroying it in '99. Cornette was friends with New Jack of all people.
@@alexbrannon I thought Russo left in 2000. Maybe it was the other half of 1999 or* the majority of the year but I know he was there in ‘99 because of the conclusion of the infamous Brawl for All.
D-Von is spot on about rap music. Years ago Kendrick Lamar invited a white woman up on the stage to sing along and as soon as she said the "N word", which were part of the lyrics, the crowd booed the shit out of her and he booted her from the stage. What did he expect was going to happen?!
In the UK there was a white girl who posted a tribute video for her friend who died in a car crash and she's singing along to his favourite song which I think was a Snoop song. She ended up getting arrested for saying the word. She wasn't saying it in any hateful or derogatory way. She was just singing song lyrics

I think the Triple H Booker promo would have been okay if Booker won in the end. The real shitty message was the fact Booker lost anyways
Right. Even if he was champion for a month like they did Randy. They was going to find a way to make Triple H champion again, anyway. So it was definitely bold that they let HHH win. Because him winning was their way of saying that Triple H was absolutely right about everything that he said in his promos. Which sent out the wrong message.

Technically most black artists don’t care if you say it while singing their song

Great video! Thoroughly enjoyed this one.
The angle of trying to break up the Dudley Boyz was really clever. It's a common tactic in union-busting to try and create racial tension where there doesn't need to be any.
Good point I've seen that happen
I think we should really piece together who D-Von was referring to that was in Vinces camp that was directly racist to him.
If he said it wasn’t Vince, John Laurinits, or Michael Hayes, then that leaves: Jim Cornette, Vince Russo, Kevin Dunne, Jim Ross or someone else.
Could’ve been Ric Flair. A few wrestlers or employees like Teddy Long have said in the past they had problems with him
I don’t think Ric would be considered a “higher up”.
