reliability could have been a good point to bring up. using a bike as a commuter you won't want to do a lot of maintenance or you will want to keep the same bike for a long time. Love the video. enjoy riding
I chose the v strom 650. Pluses: Jack of all trades and bullet proof engine. It simply won’t let you down. Negatives: top heavy and better for the taller rider.
Tank capacity and mpg is very important because if you put in the miles, filling up all the time is a pain. However, economical bikes tend to be a low power dullfest. I had an ER6F (now the Ninja 650). Great commuter bike, just enough power for motorway and overtaking, but so boring to ride. I occasionally commute half an hour each way on my ZX6R. I'd rather enjoy the ride on an exciting bike, even if its less comfortable, than have something sensible and boring. Riding is supposed to be fun!
Tracer 7GT is perfect for commuting. I normally just use the top box but put the panniers on if I need extra room. It's nippy, light, good MPG (low 50s commuting in London and 70 on a run)and a bit of weather protection
The one that starts😂😂😂 I need 3 motorcycles. I like your thinking. 😂Good video. Thank you. Cheers from switzerland. I am older tall rider and have a 2008 990SM for freetime rides. I am happy😅
Oh that’s interesting. I’ve watched a few of your vids and never really paid attention to where you are. If you’re around Tewkesbury then you’re not far from my hometown of Malvern. Although I life up in Notts now.
I've been commuting on a Vulcan S for the last 3 months and I've been loving that bike for commuting. Its fun to ride, reasonably light (especially for a cruiser), and gets good fuel economy, especially if you go easy on the throttle. I have a "heavy hand" and I've was still getting 40 mpg, but went I go easy on the throttle, it seems to get in the 50s without much problem. I do a lot of highway riding and it seems to kill my gas mileage, since I'm often going 85-90. It seems I just get better mileage taking the street, which I might just start taking the scenic route.
650s i think are the bread and butter commuters that you can blast when you want it. I have the cb650r which has that standard ergonomics but with the i4 sports bike styled engine. It struggles with mpg compared to the Mt 07 and such but having the extra power and flare makes it totally worth the cost.
Z900 and about 10-15 pounds a week... is quite fine for my commute. But then I use it in Rain mode and under 5000 rpms.... Sport mode is not for commuting 😇😆
You talk about comfort but didn't mention weather protection especially in the UK comes a long way. I prefer commuter with fairing as my commuters have been Suzuki vstrom650 then bandit 1250 then Kawasaki GTR 1400. They're all good on fuel by sensible throttle control but also no compromising at two up rides.
Interesting vid. I’ve recently started commuting occasionally (hybrid working means 2 days in the office) from the Kent coast to the city. It’s just over 60 miles one way - 80 mins mainly motorway then a couple of miles of bus lanes and traffic dodging. I’m lucky that my office has a secure underground car park. My only bike at the moment is my amazing Moto Guzzi V11 that I’ve modified as a cafe racer. It’s not at all the best commuter! Thirsty, low riding positing, heavy, no fairing, luggage and far too pretty / nickable to be in central London. I don’t want to get a shiny new bike so considering 2nd hand mid weight ADV / all rounder such as DL650, Versys 650, F650GS, CB500X… any thoughts/ suggestions welcome
I have a Yzf1000r ~ Thunderace as my every day / commute bike and I find it good for me, much better than the old Xv1100 Virago I used to have. But the point you made of having all your weight on your wrists on a sports bike, I have not yet experienced any problem riding the yzf as I have most of my weight held by my knees on the tank, my hands then, are free to control the bike not hold me up. ^^ Although saying that, I do miss my Gsx600R for urban/town work. ;)
I had a Thunderace for 8 years back in the day and miss it now. It's a shame nobody makes a 'comfy' sports bike with about 140hp and all the modern toys. The H2 SX is the closest thing in style I guess, but really expensive and too powerful.
Thunderace`s were/are good bikes@@MyMednas I saw a guy on a Thunderace forum, not so long ago, searching for his old bike... He missed it so much, when he found it for sale somewhere, he bought it back. ;) Take it easy, thanks for the reply.

Honda NC750. Built in storage and mpg unmatched by any bike in its class. Super reliable engine too.
Depends what licence you have I suppose.
A CBF125.
CB500X
NC750X
Tracer700
BMW F900XR.

My commuter is a zzr1400, remapped. On low mode most of the time because f mode is way too thirsty.

200hp supercharger is a must for me
Honda NC700X is arguably the best commuter, stock with storage frunk and everything.
I'm an American and you said something I was freaking out about you being on the left side of the road.
Low kerb weight, good ergonomics, low heat, below 75 HP, straight sitting position.
As ridiculous as it sounds, i want a belt over chain
