Fantastic to see a British woman take a homegrown idea and turn it into a successful business in an upscale mall in Bangkok. Well done Julia. Women like you are an inspiration to young girls like my daughter.
I discovered you several months ago on Brett’s channel, and my first impression was that you were very serious. Over time, as you were showing your personality, I’ve been enjoying more and more your videos and interviews. You have becoming little by little my favourite Thai TH-cam channel. Your content is different from the 1000s other channels, and you are a really great listener/interviewer. Never thought I would be watching with interest stories of anonymous people. Asking a woman about her dating life, you will most often not get the full answer. She gave a smart answer and made sure not to offend anyone for sure....

Glad to see a British Woman explain about being 'left on the side'. Basically, the complete opposite to London. Unless your rich, famous or excessively good looking you get 'left on the side' in London. British women fall for these foreigners in London but foreign women in London seem to avoid English Guys who approach them like we're only after one thing or like we're something worse and should be avoided for their own safety. You see it in the Nightclubs, Bars everywhere in London. Average White British Male in London you don't stand much chance. However if your Female you have your pick of Guys in London - Native or Foreign. I lived in London for 5 years and Bangkok for nearly as long. This Woman speaks the truth.

Great story and huge congrats to Julia! To start a business is not an easy task anywhere in the world, but to start a food business and be successful in Thailand where you can get all kinds of food at literally every step is an amazing accomplishment!!! Nice work Julia!
I have lived in Thailand long enough that you just don’t open up a business without having the finances, and a Thai partner you can trust. The restaurant looks very spacious and modern, ( not a hole in a wall) so I felt there was a big gap in this successful entrepreneur story. Who was “we”? “We decided to open the cafe.” Big money is needed to open such a business and someone has to know the restaurant business- not how to bake banana bread. Julia’s personality is very likable and comes off as a leader in anything she does. I wish her the best.
True, the devil is in the details. I’ve also heard that a Thai partner is a must for any business. If it works for her then is great but in reality things are much harder. Healthy food, vegan food and all those new age dietary tendencies are good but I much rather sell to 80% of the population and appeal to the masses rather than a small segment. Her restaurant looks awesome and good luck to her but I also feel lots of details are missing.

I really enjoy this channel and wish you all the best...unfortunately for me a LOT of this story doesn't add up. It is not cheap to fit out and rent space in Emquartier. How many highly priced vegan cakes can you sell in Bangkok? There is no shortage of delicious desserts in Bangkok, arguably some of the best dessert selection (Thai and Western) in the world. always interesting listening to expats discussing the draw back to their home country. I moved to London in my early 30s from New Zealand and had 6 of the best years of my life. Earned a pile of cash in the City, bought a house in Putney, travelled, took copious amounts of party drugs, went to the theatre, Glastonbury, concerts, dance events...it was *epic*. But after 5 or so years you kinda reach a point where you notice you are becoming more and more distant from your family and home culture and you have to decide to either embrace your new country and accept that lost closeness with friends and family, or go back. We did go back to NZ after 6 years, and I kinda wish I'd stayed in London now TBH. But that's life - every opportunity taken leaves other opportunities lost. As Scotty P has tattoo'd on his chest - "No Ragrets" 😅
Yep, I get what you say about being distant from your home culture. Life moves on while you’re away. People from home forget you. It’s the harsh reality of living abroad long term
@@ThairishTimes indeed. You miss weddings and funerals (oftentimes even your parents passing away which happened to me and some of my friends). The longer you stay abroad the more commitments you have and the harder it is to just 'pop home' when you want or need to. At least we live in a digital age and also an age of cheap travel - my parents emigrated from the UK to New Zealand in 1965 and didn't get back to England until 1974. But still, there is a cost to being a nomad or an expat that few mention on TH-cam
@@stangoodvibes Interesting topic for further discussion I'd say. It's very relevant during this period when there are so many displaced persons throughout the world, war refugees and others escaping terrible conditions. As a Pommy Migrant of the early 1950's, I felt deeply the loss of British cousins and extended family, none of whom could afford to travel to Western Australia except a rich aunt on two occasions. I returned once for a few weeks as an adult, and hardly recognised anything of my childhood, (places or family). My migrant wife had the same experience when we visited her family in the Midlands. Now as an Expat in Chiang Mai for 22 years, I'm again experiencing that disconnect from my Aussie extended family, yet haven't embedded myself properly into the Thai culture either. It's a feeling of never quite fitting in anywhere, yet unable to go back and slot-into the emptiness that was left behind. Such a dilemma must now be more common, as the world gets more disrupted each year. One has to find happiness and satisfaction in the simple, easily available pleasures such as taking a walk, having cats and dogs, feeding strays and chatting with those who'll listen 🤔🙂
@@BrassLock interesting story. I plan to semi retire in Thailand in my late 50s in a couple of years. I'm surprised you haven't felt like you've integrated into Thai society after 22 years! Why is that? Is that common? I just got back from 8 months in Thailand as a holiday and also a trial extended stay to see not only how I would feel about Thailand culture but also how I'd go with my (age appropriate degree educated) Thai GF whom I had only spent one week with before Covid kept us apart for 18 months. The GF thing went incredibly well - she's a mad keen diver and cyclist and we made some great connections through both with Thai ppl. I have a big network of Thai friends already. I think I would need about a Rai of land close to Hua Hin upon which to build a high wall enclosed 'compound' to give me some sanctuary from the madness (lol) and a very large Ford Ranger to feel safe(ish) on the roads. A few years of learning Thai, and a trip back to Australia or NZ for 2 months of each year... given those parameters I think I could make Thailand my home.
@@stangoodvibes Good for you David! I'm not good with other languages, and failed in my attempts at learning Thai, which was a big factor I guess. Now I'm hard of hearing, and even have difficulty conversing in English. I'm a bit too old to be flexible I guess, since the Pandemic lockdown has made me a bit more reclusive. Still, I enjoy pottering in my workshop, watching far too much TH-cam and getting chatty in the Comments section.
Interesting that staff can just walk out. I find that a common Thai trait. They are usually 110% committed (the missus) or away with the fairies. A brilliant interview. She seems delighted to offload her experiences. We do love to blabber!
Another first-rate interview! This lady is immediately charming! She can build that business without limit, as she wants. The secret is: "It's NEVER easy!" I've had a very close Indian-Brit lady friend and business partner -- purely platonic -- and would love to socialize and be a friend to this talented lady, too. Alas, my Bangkok days are over.
One of your best, for me at least. What a great lady she is. Her experiences as an entrepreneur in the restaurant business, her issues with staffing, all so familiar to me. Also her love/hate relationship with BKK (and actually that applies to most of LoS). Interestingly, of her likes and dislikes, her relationship/interactions with Thais themselves stayed out of the picture, only regarding staff, but not on a personal level. The food is great, etc etc, but climate too hot, but no comment about the Thais, which is in its core what makes Thailand. Let's call it being diplomatic? ;) Good luck with what ever comes her way, and I surely will visit the Banana Warrior should I be in the capital.

So you mean to tell me that feeling of wrongness seeing such fokbois and calling them out is in itself wrong?
Great interview nice to hear a western ladys perspective on Thailand, seemed quite positive and adventurous. Great job on the questions Pete, cheers.
Cheers Mick
Well done on subs Pete, love dipping in n out of your channel, always something interesting to catch up on
Thanks very much Ken. I see you’re back in Thailand all the best. Up da Dubz we’ll do it again tonight!!
Absolutely riveting, best subject interview I’ve ever seen. Julia’s story about how she started in business is priceless. As a newly retired lifelong entrepreneur I can especially appreciate her accomplishments.
Cheers to you both
I plan to film a day in the life series and Julia will feature in one of those episodes. It'll be cool to show you guys a day in the life of a Bangkok based entrepreneur. Thanks for watching
Love the phase accidental entrepreneur, but in reality people like her see every little detail in life and are just waiting to jump when they see opportunity. It great she has a successful business. Very bold of her, the universe rewards the bold. She has a great story. Wish we had a little more details of the business and how it got setup. One of the biggest pitfalls of doing business in Thailand, you are required to have a Thai partner. Great video Pete. Always look forward to your video!
Fortune favours the bold Thomas. I loved Julia’s story
Super honest vivacious woman. Please stay in Thailand!
Used to date a lady just like her in London, her mum was from Galway an her dad also was from India, she was from Sheffield great lady, well done to her for doing what she's doing, another great interview Pete 👏up,up and away superman 🦸♂️
What a great combo!
@@ThairishTimes yea all I know was happiest times of my life before Thailand
Julia whatever you do, follow your instincts, you’ve been brave, you’ll meet the right guy, when you want to. Pete great interview

Thank you very much Dario, you’ve given me a few ideas 😊😊😊
Definitely going there when I visit Bangkok next time. Hope Julia is still there!
Wow!! really enjoying your videos recently
Cheers Liam
Loved this interview.
Beautiful woman fantastic story!!
👌🏻
Glad you liked it
You really broke through the spiel with this one man. Really great stuff. She is so spot on about that deep feeling of safety in Bangkok. It's bizarre actually considering the size and general wealth of the population.
Glad you enjoyed Julia’s perspective mate. Yes, it’s really weird how safe BKK is. I never feel in any danger except when crossing the road 😬
Unless you were on that mini-bus that a young Thai male threw a GRENADE at, when I was an expat there. Or of course those who lost their lives just looking at the Erawan Shrine on that popular street corner one day. Etc.
@@davidb2206 I was more talking about solely in relation to muggings. I don't feel under threat in that regard in most areas of the city centre. Safety in other ways is horrendous.
@@masterofthecranium Yeah, the thing is, hundreds of foreigners die in Thailand each year. I think the number for Americans alone is over 100. It's not all accidents, either. Yeah, you many not be shot in a drive-by like in Oakland or Chicago, but, when you are dead inThailand, you are dead just the same.
Great interview.. I would like to hear more of the business side. Her experience opening a cafe in one of the higher end malls in BKK. I love EMquartier..one my favorite malls..
Ok cool, we spoke about filming more together. Julia has a wealth of business knowledge
Great interview, well done Julia, great to see a fellow brit with a thriving business in BKK :)
Really enjoyed that interview Pete. She seems so genuine and pleasant. Hope she stays in Thailand and when I get their I`ll stop by for a triple latte with almond milk :)
Sounds delicious mate
Great interview again.very interesting story.Thx. Pete.I'm sub.bcuz the story about interviewing.😁😁💪💪✌✌👏👏👍👍👏👏✌✌💪💪👌👌👌👌
Great thanks 🙏🙏☺️
Great interview. She's beautiful and engaging. I'm an Irish woman living in Phangnga. I agree completely with her thoughts on the dating scene here. In my experience, it's very rare to see a western woman with a Thai man.
Glad you enjoyed it 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪☘️
@@ThairishTimes 🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮🇨🇮☘️
No healthy food or deserts in Thailand???? the fresh fish..wow. She's talking about healthy fast food. what about the amazing fresh fruits they sell on the street (or they used to 20 years ago).
One of the best of your lovely programme. 🤗🤗
Great interview enjoyed this one.
Some amazing Questions on an amazing channel. love the jumpsuit Julia.
Top man mate 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼😊
Nice to see a different perspective on this channel. Maybe find more women to interview!
Agree, more interviews with women please! The more diverse perspectives, the better.
I am a subscriber and enjoy your channel very much. This interview was very good and insightful something a little different a womans view. Thanks for the great job you do for us viewers. Cheers
Thanks Michael. I’m glad you enjoyed it 🙏🙏🙏
Super inspiration to western ladies out there. She's intelligent and honest. More of western ladies perspective please.
Glad you liked it. I’ll keep my eyes peeled
Refreshing answers, nice interview! Julia is a nice lady 😊
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm a western guy in my mid 50s, I've lived almost 50 years in Asia and 14 here in Bangkok. It took me 6 years to find myself a western girlfriend in Bangkok, but the wait was definitely worth it.
Not all guys want to date Asians, even though they can look nice.
Looks mean naff all
Great interview. What a beautiful, smart woman. Good for her.
Wow Pete ... You've done a great job again. Five months ago I wrote my serious comment about brother Dakota's family case compare to my dad's story. Now you're more goes into the flows with sharp questions. Obviously improve thru each person you'd interviewed. Good job mate. Cheers !!!
Thank you very much mate 🙏🙏🙏
Great interview Pete - stick with it Julia. I want to try some of that banana cake when I come to LOS next.
Ben I’m biased but definitely the nicest banana cake in Bangkok
Congrats on 20k, you deserve it so much :)
Thanks very much 🙏🙏
Great interview.. Awesome channel..
Thanks mate
Pete , you are a brilliant interviewer. Great videos.
Thanks very much Paul
I love her energy! So full of life ❤️ 😍 💖 ❣️
I love interviews like this as I am a single woman thinking of retiring in Thailand in the future
Great interview as usual...lovely lady...I will be in Bangkok in a week and intend to try her cafe while I am there.
Thanks ☺️☺️☺️
An amazing interview. I was mesmerised by Julia’s answers to your questions. She has personality, intelligence, telling her story and experiences with an enormous amount of credibility. Quite frankly,I didn’t want the interview to end. Great job both of you!
I couldn’t say it any better. I think we’ll have to ask Julia to do another one
Great interview Pete! 👏👏
Thanks mate
Congrats! Pete. Super nice lady! Great questions and honest answers. Life is always ups and downs but like Julia. We all make loads of choices daily. Actions turn dreams into reality. It will either work or not work. Either way you will learn something.
Absolutely Martin, win or learn
What an impressive woman and yet another top draw interview! I'll be sure to visit her cafe soon. Cheers
Cheers Gaz
always interesting listening to expats discussing the draw back to their home country.
Greetings from South Africa Johannesburg me and my husband is loving your content. Keep it up.
Thanks guys 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Confident, articulate, beautiful, successful & funny. Julia is nice too 😀top interview Pete, best Nick
Thanks Nick
Interesting that staff can just walk out. I find that a common Thai trait. They are usually 110% committed (the missus) or away with the fairies.
A brilliant interview. She seems delighted to offload her experiences. We do love to blabber!
Good interview with a quality person.
Another great interview.
Thanks James
We happy to support you we subscribed.
Thank you very much
Lovely lady. I like her comment about not making dating important.
Cheers Mick, I thought that was a great comment too
Well... it can't be. According to Julia, its all rubbish anyway.
Enjoyed this one Pete ..
Thanks Jon
Beautiful.... Julia that is .. not you Pete ha ha!! Loved the story and well done Julia for what you have achieved so far
Haha I thought I was getting a compliment there for a second
One of your best, for me at least. What a great lady she is. Her experiences as an entrepreneur in the restaurant business, her issues with staffing, all so familiar to me. Also her love/hate relationship with BKK (and actually that applies to most of LoS).
Interestingly, of her likes and dislikes, her relationship/interactions with Thais themselves stayed out of the picture, only regarding staff, but not on a personal level. The food is great, etc etc, but climate too hot, but no comment about the Thais, which is in its core what makes Thailand. Let's call it being diplomatic? ;)
Good luck with what ever comes her way, and I surely will visit the Banana Warrior should I be in the capital.
For a British women she stands out ! Great personality and an interesting person. You should have her and your one tooth pal on together - am sure it would be a Blast ?!
That’s a viral video
inspiring story! plus, she's a smoke show! good job Julia!
Wow good content do some more women expats and how they thrive and be successful in Thailand and good job mate and congratulations on 20k subscribers and counting mate!
