What Life Is Like For An American Woman In Thailand

  • I interview Alexandra, an American woman who has lived in Thailand on and off for a few years now. She tells me what life is like for an American woman in Thailand. We discuss her job and her future plans as well as her experience in China at the beginning of the pandemic. Everyone has a story and it was a pleasure to hear Alexandra's. I also thought this would be a great contrast to the previous interview with Tony Huge. Let's hear about a foreign woman's life in Thailand. #livinginthailand #thairishtimes #interview

Her experience was a lot like mine when I lived in the far flung suburbs of BKK, but in the early 2000s. It is a completely different experience for western women, and she summed it up when she said it was lonely. I personally dated a bit, and ended up married to a Thai man. We just celebrated our 18th anniversary! But we made the USA our home. There are very few long-term female expats.

Yeah, he really dropped the ball with this one. The overriding theme with Western women that come to Thailand, either as tourists or to work, is that they quickly realized that they are largely going to be lost in the crowd and not noticed if they go around behaving in a self-entitled, narcissistic type of way. A vast majority of Western women are grossly overweight and behave in a very masculine way, which doesn't really appeal to any man in the universe. In a nutshell, it's a man's world over here in Asia and I would have liked to have heard what she had to say about that shift in power dynamics as well, or you do not have a women first, feminist societal ideal.

As a career international teacher, ( having taught at five different accredited international schools in three continents for over 35 years), I wish Alex the best in her future career; however, the creativeness and joy of teaching in the USA has been taken away due to clueless politicians that know nothing about education and the lack of parent support. I wish Alex the best when she returns to the USA. We need young, enthusiastic teachers in America

Very nice interview! Intelligent lady! I am Swiss, 75,and in Thailand on and off since 1985 when I landed in Phuket on my little yacht.
Thailand is a wonderful, beautiful and welcoming country. Not to speak about the food and fruit, and I am Swiss Italian! The fact that it is relatively cheap allowed me to be creative and do things that would never be possible in Europe or US. All that living on a beach like in Paradise!
I agree that Thailand is like a drug! And that Thai women are so nice and friendly is like the cherry on a cake!

Hope you make your 10k subscriber goal soon. You work hard. "How you doin. Hows it goin? As we'd say in Ireland" I know "Top of the morning" is something only leprechaun's say and usually not real Irish. But as an American "How you doin? Hows it going" just sounds more American to my ears than Irish for some reason. :-)
