This lady is the most pleasant, well spoken and eloquent American I have ever listened to. It has been an honour and a pleasure to listen to her. Thank you, for interviewing her Pete.
@@Ned88Man Hi, I applaud your association with such rare women. Most appreciatively, you could suggest equivalent that could be interviewed, since we truly enjoy listening specifically to educated , progressive, articulate , well informed, liberal ,open minded ,non bigoted , internationally exposed American born ,Caucasian women, thats living in Thailand , share their perspectives.
I graduated from ISB in 1967...those were good times. It was a friend of Jim Thompson that got me a job teaching English to Royal Thai Air Force cadets at Don Muang. Yeah use to ride the old smoke belching white buses--- 50 satang fare.
I'm Thai. I only watch some of your interview videos. I intentionally watch this one because of "52 Years" headline. My God, Beverly does live up to my expectation. She is very classy. I also can tell that she has very sharp brain. She is able to explain each section of her years in Thailand in very brief and compact sentences. I hope that she, some how, has a chance to go through our comments.
Great interview! As an American who first visited Thailand in the mid-80s and who now lives here with my Thai wife, I really loved hearing Beverly's stories about old Bangkok and Jim Thompson. Keep up the good work!
What a lovely lady, and what an awesome interview. It's one of your best, Pete. Nice to hear about the past where I had no idea while I was growing up there. I'm glad her family adjusted well and her story is very interesting and insightful. I wish, however, that she would elaborate a bit more when talking about friendship with Thais in good time, and especially in bad time, but seeing what a lovely, well spoken, and classy lady she is, I can understand her NOT going into detail. My take on friendship in bad time is that Thai people does not know how to react or what to say as people do in the States or in Europe. For example, once I was talking to a Korean gas station owner and an American sale representative mentioned to him that her father has passed away, and she was probably expected him to give her a condolence, but he said NOTHING. She seemed perplexed that he didn't. To his culture, as to Thais, we don't say "I am so sorry about your loss," because death is a part of life, but we will show up at the funeral to lend a helping hand, etc. It's not so much about saying, but about doing, rather, you know, as the Greek word AGAPE means. Anyway, I am thankful to her husband for being a part of helping Thailand developed and become what she is today. Thank you.
Glad you liked the video Panna and thanks for the interesting observation about friendship here in Thailand. I’m lucky to have met some great people here and like you mentioned they show their friendship in a different way but it’s perfect for me
I really like the moment at the end when asked about what she has learned, and she says that life is not perfect, and be generous with people who make mistakes. Brava.
A very wise and classy woman giving us life lesson, "being curious, adventurous...you don't have to be perfect, that's the fun of it...be generous to somebody who makes mistakes..." Thanks for the interview! :))
Well that was brilliant - an excellent interview at all levels. The wonderful Beverly is such a natural and articulate speaker and someone I could listen to for hours. Well done Pete for letting her do the talking - very professional. So when do we get part 2? I'd love to hear more from you both.
Bit of a backstory about this interview. I met Beverly’s son at a show a few weeks back. I interviewed him and called the video “what’s life like for a foreigner growing up in Thailand”. I’m not sure what happened but the file got corrupted and unusable. That’s when Beverly’s son put me in contact with Beverly and the rest is history.
This is awesome Pete. I was on the edge of my seat and wondered if the Vietnam war was affecting things. Then you asked that question! Getting the real story requires asking the right questions, you have a knack for that Pete. I believe this pursuit will lead you (and us) to good places.
You couldn't have picked a nicer lady! I feel like I'm on par with her as in away from mother land for half a century. She's amazing. Total admiration for her. Thank you so much Beverly and Pete 🙏
If you can do another interview with her son and post that, it would be great. It would be nice to see his viewpoint on life in Thai. This interview with Beverley was so interesting , lovely woman and she recounts lots of interesting things she did on her life journey there in Thai. Again another great interview Pete. Full credit to you , your manner and interviewing technique make people so relaxed and open when you ask the right questions . Many thanks ...keep up the great work 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻.
I loved listening to Beverly. What an inspiring story! As a Thai who has been living outside of Thailand most of my life, I am inspired to go back and experience living in Thailand again. Thanks for a great interview!
Another fantastic interview, what I love about Beverly she is such an open minded person. The way she says she sacrificed a career for Thailand, just goes to show you can lead a good life without having to be career focused. Beverly is a fantastic person, could sit for hours listening to her stories. Top stuff Pete, as always keep it up!
What an amazing opportunity she took way back and it led to a life which she would never have had 'back home' stuck in middle suburbia 'living the dream'. Listening to her relate the life she has had it has without question being incredibly 'interesting' with many advantages given and taken. Great interview which I must say has to be one of the best so far - and you have done many good ones.
Run accross this as I have followed many of the Thai utubers as my wife of 54 years is from Thailand! We really enjoyed as we lived in Bangkok from 67 thru 72 as I was in the United States Army stationed first in Vietnam then moved to Bangkok so this interview was just fasinating to us keep up the good work!
Wow I didn’t think it was going to be this interesting talking to her but I ended up watching a full video! She’s so elegant and classy and the interviewer is great also. Thank you for a great video!
I came over in 1979 with JUSMAGTHAI. Bangkok was indeed a special place. The islands which are popular now with tourists were just starting to take shape with limited places to stay. IMHO, Thailand was the absolute best time for me from 1979-2004. I can't explain what happened, but we'll never experience the charm and friendliness like of that time.
That’s so true! I grew up in Krabi. It was quaint tiny beach town with limited tourists then(in the ‘80s). I had a great time and made so much memories there. I couldn’t believe how big it has become nowadays.
Great interview, Pete. Beverly seems like such a great lady, someone you could easily sit down with and have great conversations about all kinds of things. I'd love to hear more of her perspectives and stories of what BKK was like in the 70's and 80's.
Wow Beverly is a class act with over half a century of experience in Thailand. This interview is excellent and very informative. It's almost like a fairy tale from America to Thailand.
Very interesting to me since I was an enlisted G.I. stationed at U Tapao Air Base and was being rotated back to U. S. about the same time your guest and her husband arrived. When I first arrived in Thailand on military transport and stepped on land, it was like stepping into a different world. The smell was different, the sounds seemed like an alien world and neither I nor any of the other G.I.s who arrived on the same flight spoke any Thai, however my coming year in Thailand was soon to become one of the most pleasant years of my life. Once I had a little time to settle in, I came to the conclusion that I had arrived in what seemed a primitive paradise for a newly turned 21 year old from America. Although the off base sewage disposal system was klongs (canals) running underneath the houses built on stilts along the roadway, the country around me was beautiful with tropical type vegetation and small mountains. In general the Thai people were friendly and accommodating, and I must say that the unadorned Thai girls were world class beauties for the most part. It's hard to believe that was over 53 years ago.

Wonderful interview with such an articulate lady. I really enjoyed hearing about her experiences and can only imagine how interesting Thailand was back in the day.
Very wise woman! I enjoyed because as a retired teacher I was in and out of Cambodia for 14 years. Actually teaching in the Providence at a Mission. So I could relate to her. Thanks to the both of you. I enjoyed Thailand greatly when I would visit
I was fortunate in my family having my parents and relatives living in many countries around the world. My mother was born in Aden, Yemen in 1912 as her father was an officer in the Royal Navy. My father lived in Australia for 12 years in the 1930’s, two of my uncles, one lived in British Guyana from 1935 to 1955 and the other in Rio Brazil from 1932 and never came back to England, an Auntie to Egypt Port Said in 1930, all these relatives had amazing lives and I remember as a kid some would visit my family in London, which opened my eyes to how people lived in different countries, which put the traveling bug in me all my life, been to about 50 countries in my 69 years and ended up here in Thailand for now! Great interview thanks 🙏
Brilliant interview. Beverley would be one of my fantasy dinner guests, her small talk with Graham Greene or John Steinbeck would be rivetting.... and your style is spot on, less is more. More real life characters, with substance, history and interesting stories please
Great interview Pete. I imagine that Beverly would have dozens of interesting stories to tell. I am sure she probably has some fantastic photos also of Thailand over the years. I’d like to hear more from Beverly.
Wow, what a great interview. Pete, you are a legend. You have so impressed me and inspired me as I have followed your channel. and I have so much respect for you and I just want to say how much I appreciate you and your work. It's outstanding. Thank you, brother.
Thank you for very good interviews and I can see how she happy a lot living in Thailand and be one of the part help Thailand create the variety and develop for beautiful country. I am very proud that I studied in AIT and I remembered the feeling studying with many students from many countries that wonderful and awesome. For her 52 years in Thailand for me as Thai people I still not know our history and experience as Beverly and I could see she and her family are 100% Thai people. Thanks a lot for sharing your journey. Love from Thai people working in UAE and missing Thailand. 🇹🇭🇺🇸🙏😁
Came across your channel this past week. I've really enjoyed your interviews, very intelligent questions. Beverly is a very interesting and wise person.
I’ve also interviewed Beverly’s son who grew up in Thailand. Here’s the video th-cam.com/video/kaXGOLq1JIM/w-d-xo.html

Fantastic, I bet you have some epic stories in your family
you dad met your mom at yemen ? that's... really wanna made me cry somehow, a guy from Australia, travelled there, and found love.
Brilliant interview. Beverley would be one of my fantasy dinner guests, her small talk with Graham Greene or John Steinbeck would be rivetting.... and your style is spot on, less is more. More real life characters, with substance, history and interesting stories please
You're always upping your gane Pete! Great interview.
Thanks mate
Great Interview Pete!! Beverly is Amazing!! 52 years is a very Long time.. shes very Refreshing to listen too.
Great interview Pete. I imagine that Beverly would have dozens of interesting stories to tell. I am sure she probably has some fantastic photos also of Thailand over the years. I’d like to hear more from Beverly.

Beverly is a gem. "Things should not be perfect. That is a fun of it" .. love it
I loved that comment too
Thank you for very good interviews and I can see how she happy a lot living in Thailand and be one of the part help Thailand create the variety and develop for beautiful country. 🇹🇭🇺🇸🙏😁
Great interview. It gave me more idea what it’s like, how our society’s building up to today, happily shared on my FB. 👌🏻
