There is no quintessential NYC experience quite like running down a subway station platform with your arms flapping all about like a distressed penguin, making eye contact with the conductor, and then hesitantly stretching out your hand to try to slip between the doors before they close. For every time they re-open, they're just as likely to slam shut in your face, leaving you gazing at your own disconsolate reflection in the greasy window as the train rolls away forever.

Is that the reason why New Yorkers look pissed off all the time?

There's nothing hearbreaking about these people because hardly any of them wanted to catch the train in the first place. Show me a video of people running, hurdling over baby strollers, then lunging with the full weight of their arms and upper body like an olympic sprinter at the closing doors, and you will see true heartbreak.

How did you get these clips, did just sit there filming until someone missed the train?

And then you stare down the conductor and make him feel bad. The New York way.

I think the best ones are the people who play it off. "Oh that train? Nope, wasn't getting on that one."

All I can hear in my head over and over again watching this is, "Stand clear of the closing doors please. *ding dong"

Same in Berlin. I once tried to jump through the closing door and it nearly squashed me, because they have no sensors or something lol this. Three people had to help me. Never did it again.

Must be tourists, half those people let the door close without even putting their arm in to stop it.
