    the start was actually intriguing where Bond gets captured and is tortured. It could've gone somewhere interesting with that but instead the rest of the movie happened lol

      There’s a great storyline there about Bond being abandoned by his government and left to rot for so long. It sets up a great conflict between him and M that could have taken the character into a much deeper and introspective direction before Craig’s time. But then the movie instantly forgets about that and focuses on the real story; Ice Hotels, Sun lasers, and Koreans in white face

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yup, The opening sequence is good and the initial set up is interesting (even if it's similar to one of the Dalton movies) but then he goes to Hawaii and well, that's the end of the good stuff. The rest is just madness ;p

      They went from a movie whose climax had two women fencing and Bond fighting a mech in an airplane flying around a space lazer; to a bunch of people sitting around playing cards. Casio Royal is a good movie sure but I loved this movie, and Casino Royal doesn't have the women or the gadgets or a super villain with a plan to take over the world.

      I think the concept of that movie was far ahead of its time. a villain using media to manipulate citizens. sadly apart from its main theme the movie never got anything else right. What could have been a smart intelligent thought provoking thriller on media and its ill influence turns into a routine action movie. It seems the makers were quite focused on getting the chemistry between Michelle Yeoh and Bond and to showcase the martial arts skills of her. Obviously the movie came at a time when Chinese audience was getting to be really important for Hollywood and the hence the makers wanted to ensure they made that appeal.

      I always loved Tomorrow Never Dies, one of my childhood favourites. Me and my dad loved Elliott Carver as a villain, some of his dialogue and the actor's take on his persona is just fantastic! Parts of the movie and the story were a bit mediocre, and the scenes with the stealth boat weren't always that exciting, HOWEVER I always loved two of the earlier action scenes; one being the car chase when Bond is in the backseat, driving it himself... and the other being the iconic motorbike chase in Ho Chi Minh, I absolutely loved that when I was younger! Michelle Yeoh is another example of a great Bond girl, who isn't just a sex object but another spy who is completely badass and can handle herself in almost any situation.

    There are two types of Bond films: the serious ones and the fantasy ones.
    This is one of the fantasy films and I enjoy it as such, especially the spy vs. spy car duel. But it’s got a lot of twist and turns and nonsense. It’s not a straightforward story like the Roger Moore fantasies such as Spy Who Loved Me and Moonraker... still kinda fun.

    Silliness aside in all the rest of the movie, this movie's torture montage at the beginning is the most legit thing Bond has run into in any of the movies i've happened to have seen. I mean in the more recent and lauded Casino Royale the whole bottomless wicker chair nut whacking would hurt (I'm a guy, I get it) but to my eyes that scene looked more like Jackass than Syriana. In this film I actually felt bad for Bond at that point.

    • @JazGalaxy
      @JazGalaxy 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The torture scene in Casino Royal was a low point in the film for me, despite it being one of my favorite movies of all time. It just seemed so over-cooked in terms of torture. Maybe I'm missing something, and this is a real type fo torture that really gets results, but there are so many more obvious ways of torture that don't get into weird sexual areas. I think they were going for some sort of meaning in attacking James Bond's penis, which is supposed to be of such importance to him and the world. But... seriously. As a straight man, I'm not going anywhere near another man's penis for any reason. Pull the guys fingernails or something. He keeps his pants on and it's likely much more effective.

    Also I gotta say, when General Moon saw that his son became Graves through DNA manipulation, and realized he had lost his son not only physically, but also ideologically (General Moon wanted Korea to reunite peacefully, but his son wanted to wage war and take on the world; General Moon also let him study at Harvard and Oxford in an attempt to bridge the gap between the East and West), among other aspects, it really tug at my heart strings a little lol

    Would just like to just say thank you for actually including spoilers in a review (with, of course, the appropriate heads up to those who don't want them). I like this format a LOT better than when you try and skirt around them with "the funniest thing happens but I don't want to spoil it but you guys who've seen it will know what I'm talking about!"
    Especially needed them in this case, where it's been so long since I've seen any of the Brosnan Bonds that all I can remember at this point is "YES! I AM INVEENCIBULLLL!" 😁

    Hi Chris, I know many people do not like Die Another Day, but I do. As you said, the score (from Madona's song) is upbeat and brilliant, much like Live and Let Die. Every time the musical cue kicks in, the movie switches gears. The actions sequences are amazing, over the top, but yes still amazing. Loved the main villains, the body guard is eye catching as an albino asian with diamonds stuck to his skull. 3 baddies (The trinity is usually reserved for the good guys) and Bond... looses in the opening credits! That's a first! Bond up until then (except for You Only Live Twice) always wins to showcases him. From Russia With Love doesn't count because it's revealed it is not Bond.

    This movie is great! The stuff in North Korea in the beginning, the epic sword fight, Halle Berry, the ending plane battle and then they fall out of the exploding plane in a helicopter and start the helicopter in midair (which I don’t think you could do but I don’t care)! Awesome movie. Second best Brosnan Bond movie right behind Goldeneye. The other 2 were kind of boring.

  • @Syklonus
    @Syklonus 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    The start when he gets captured and tortured was amazing! I was totally drawn in, because we'd never really seen Bond lose that badly before, and it was a different path that could have led to some interesting character development. Instead, it just went into farce and Bond hardly seemed phased by his ordeal. A complete waste of a great idea.

    I totally agree but still, this is my favorite Bond movie. Love the technology, even love the invisible Aston Martin. The score sounds very modern and "tech", making it a perfect fit. The car chase might be over the top due to the missiles but at least it's exciting! Compare that to the boring tour of Rome in Spectre! I also like how Bond got caught and tortured at the beginning. It makes him seem vulnerable, something everybody praised about the first movie with Craig.
