I have rebuilt a few of these older engines my favorite was the GMC 302 Straight 6 cly. Two barrel carburetor three in.ex 12 in. Clutch the engine is only three inches longer. You definitely have to have that bypass holes between the Thermostat housing and water pump or the engine will have cooling system hot cold hot cold. I always figure a way to put a pcv valve in the system Moisture and junk out of the oil.

I used to have a 1973 Chevy Vega! It was a Kammback GT wagon. Stil had the original B60-13 as a spare, too! Fun car. I loved it.

All that is missing is Fenton headers.
Are you running the 848 cylinder head?
Sounds great. Does it have solid lifters?
You should get rid of those tiny air filters and let that engine breathe!
