Bungie really knew how to slay the ambience game. A lot of games use stock/real gunfight effects, but they'd be so out of place in a sci-fi game.
Well actually most of the jet, machine gun and explosion sounds you are hearing my not be stock sounds but they where sampled from operation desert storm ( gulf war ) 1990- 91
As said before, the gunfire effects in Halos 1-Reach were often sampled from real gunfire and edited

The military artstyle, the ambience, the haunting choir, they did such an outstanding job with Reach
Reach's art style is my favourite out of all the games.
The suits look like they could exist and function in real life with their sharp edges and sloped plates.
@@oniemployee3437 Same, even the small details like dump pouches, magazine pouches, IR helmet lights, antennas, etc really help the armor feel functional and believable. I'm glad they're bringing a lot of that stuff back with Halo Infinite.

Imagine for a moment we get another Halo game where we fill the boots of an ordinary Marine or Trooper. The objective isn’t to seek out and destroy the enemy, for that time is long past. The Covenant are spitting in your unit’s face and making a mockery of your heroic efforts at resistance, deciding to glass the city instead. The objective; escape, with as many fellow troopers and civilians as you can rescue. Aircraft overhead attempts to cover you, Warthogs, tanks and trucks overburdened with passengers streaming past as you do your damndest to fall back, fighting as you go because the few seconds you buy will mean life and death to your comrades. There is no stopping the tide of Covenant, nor halting the inevitable glassing that is signaling the apocalypse. Just the faint hope that maybe, if you fight hard enough, enough lives can escape to make it all worth...something. In the end, you’re not sure. All you can do is lift your rifle, grit your teeth, and ship out to the next fight...

i remember stopping the falcon and just looking into the distance at either the endless pink and purple fog, from glassings or the random flak kicking in to take down those corvettes.
God this game really brings back memory’s, when I was a kid (6th grade) I played the crap out of this when my father bought this game for me when I asked for it, because all my friends had halo reach.i remember when my friend on Xbox died from cancer, my dad gave me his silver star award for staying with my friend till he died.At the time all I knew was I just shoot aliens but, now that I come back I see that it’s more than shooting aliens, this has character development that you get attached too and an amazing story built up with it. I wish my father was still here today because he died in 2016 after his truck ran over an IED. Thank you dad for buying me this game and I wish I could thank you again for everything you’ve done for me and your country

Technically you did, you can immediately go and play the Halo trilogy and personally witness the downfall of the covenant at the hands of the flood, infighting, and the very gods they worshipped and sought to exterminate. The glorious irony of the persecuted being the reclaimers and true inheritors of the forerunner legacy is realized, and the master chief saves the galaxy. That's how the story ends 😊

Probably the largest, most complex fortress world belonging to the UEG, holding hundreds of frigates, inter planetary defense arrays, cruisers, destroyers, hundreds of on world defense platforms, thousands of troop compounds, and thousands more troops, fell in mere days, all because of one Covenant spy drone, and one foolish cruiser captain, one man, can change the course of history.

Imagine you just sitting in an abandoned office with your squad of Marines, your commander Calling for reinforcements as a covenant Corvette begins to glass part of the city nearby, the only thing you get in return is static as you pray your family got out safely in the evacuations, covenant yelling echoing in the wind as well as the distant sounds of battle and the sight of ODSTs jumping into a battle they can't win.

This game is actually a pretty big piece of me because I grew up with it and it introduced me to halo. I never understood what any of the story meant until I started paying attention and realized the tragedy that was reach. The game still makes me so nostalgic and hits me in the feels every time
It didn't introduce me to Halo, but this one had the biggest impact on me. It's my favorite game series ever and this one is my favorite.
Imagine yourself sitting in an apartment room, one half of the room torn down still enough to hide you and your loved ones. You sit and rest awaiting the inevitable strike on your building, spending the last few moments hearing distant gunfire of the Marines and Soldiers trying desperately to defend what’s left of the city, the explosions and strikes on other buildings and structures, watching whole buildings collapse in front of you. Each explosion making you jump in surprise as they get closer and closer along with the Opposing Forces moving closer to you and your loved ones. You spot multiple Aircraft Doing bombing runs on the city, you sit there wondering when will it be over. You wave at Aircraft of evacuation Helicopters hoping one will notice you and save your Family and Friends. That last string of hope fades as everyone of them fly by trying to get out. You see one get shot down and you instantly feel a wave of empathy sit over you, it lingers. In the distance you see a bright light, thinking it is salvation you jump out hoping to catch it’s attention when you come to the quick realisation it is a rocket heading straight for your building.
You have a moment before it reaches you,
Do you:
A) Grab your family and face death knowing it was going to come sooner or later.
B) Tell everyone to Duck down and grab cover hoping for that one chance of survival.
C) You don’t tell anyone and want them to die peacefully and not be scared of what is about to happen next.
I will leave the ending to your imagination.

i would choose “b” just because i would want anyone who can possibly survive to survive, but i would also be terrified that i couldn’t be holding them close if we were all going to die anyway, so it is pretty tough decision. that was some good storytelling though dude it really painted a vivid image of a family cowering in corner of a bombed out building facing impending doom
why wait... if all the building are being destroyed then there is no hope in staying. Pack what you can carry on your back, leave the home you once knew and face a new path or hope and safety, under the cover of the city being destroyed

@@daka3785 I’m talking about the original reach though. I know there’s still MCC reach, but it’s not exactly the same. It doesn’t have commendations or credits, and it has more bugs than the original due to the increased tick rate.
Man, I've made so many memories with Halo Reach as a kid. Just reading this now, along with listening to the haunting music in the background made me remember those times. When life was simple. The time when I didn't have responsibilities or any cares in the world.
Looking back, I realized I, among many others, were the lucky ones that got to experience such a masterpiece like this growing up. Kids nowadays will never understand the feeling of pure bliss and nostalgia.
Remember Reach, fellow Spartans. Remember it forever.
@@TheWarHorse100 I couldn’t have said it better myself. Reach was a true classic back in 2010, and I looked forward to playing every day with my best friends. We’ve only got a month left with this game, and it pains me greatly knowing that something that has been besides me for so long will be put out of commission.
It’s a bittersweet ending for a game I hold so near-and-dear to my heart, but I know that my memories of this game will last forever.
I guess that’s the beauty of it - that no one will be able to take away my memories of playing Halo Reach with my best friends. They’ll always be with me, and will always remind me of what an awesome life I’ve had.
In the meantime, fellow Spartan, stay strong and remember Reach.

Unpopular option halo reach is one of the best halos in looks style and music and it’s one of the the only halo games that really shows the the helpless struggle against the covenant and how outmatched the human race is but they just don’t no it yet other than halo odst.

It's the grittiest and most grounded halo game, and definitely one of the most emotional.
I mean the whole point of both Reach and ODST is to show how humanity has everything against them trying to survive and alien empire and that not every spartan can do what Master Chief does and has been doing for about 20 years
The proper short machine gun bursts in the background took me back a time and place long ago, my A-gunner and I knocking them down with those same short bursts ...
I've heard that the UNSC chose to bleed on Reach in hopes to give Earth as much time as it could get. I'm not in-depth of the Halo- verse but what I do know from playing the games terrify me of the scale. Lord Hood remarks in Halo 2 that the fleet that destroyed reach was 50(15?) times the size of Regret's, making it at around 750 ships in scale and in order to sell the idea of Reach being Humanity's cradle, the military had pooled together every ship possible from most of the remaining worlds.
It takes 3 human ships fighting together to have a chance of destroying a single Covenant ship. I can only imagine the sheer scale of the War for Reach. It must've looked eerily similar to Warhammer 40k at its peak.
The covenant had 9 battle groups at reach. One of which were command by Thel Vadamee’. A former fleetmaster who commanded 190 ships personally. 165 saw combat in Reach. Some of their Capital ships and carrier ships could reach lengths up to 19 Miles/26 Kilometers.

Halo Reach showed us the reality of the Human-Covenant war. It showed us what the war was like for even a team of Spartans that weren't Master Chief. It scales up Master Chief as a character, Reach showed the average Elite as the Covenant Spartan in physical strength and prowess with energy shields and weapons. Reach is great because its a sad story but, still a heroic one.
