This song is probably my favorite song ever. I’ve never felt something that could convey a mysterious civilization and it’s absolute power more than this piece. It’s a shame it isn’t as wildly known as other Halo tracks
Faber I agree. I was only 5 when Halo 3 came out so I never played in its prime but I found this music and wish I could’ve. I think the Forerunners’s and Precursor’s are the most interesting parts of the Halo series, Bungie did an incredible job with making them seem an empire of untold power
@@Forerunner2 that is wild you were so young when this came out. This song. More then most others. Has stuck with me over the years. The desert. The wide scope of the ark. The core in the middle. I was listening to it on a 110 inch projector home theater 7.1 surround system too. There's just something about this that has always clung to me for the last 15 years.
I think a lot of people don't even "hear" the song, it blends in so perfectly with what's going on that it becomes part of the background and gives this mission its distinctive atmosphere...which, i guess, is the whole point when composing an OST. But yeah, this is incredibly smooth and also foreboding in a sense, for sure a good soundtack for exploring the relics of a defunct superadvanced and misterious civilization.
@@DarkLightGaming117 that’s how I’ve always felt about it. It plays a lot in my head, especially in some of my more sad moments, but it also relaxes me greatly. Been listening to it for almost 5 years now
It is kinda like Halo Wars OST, mostly " Insignificantia " and " Action Figure Hands ", amongst others. Really sad to think that those OSTs barely get any attention, they just get outshined by Marty's and Michael's music, but damn, HW got my favorite music in all of Halo ( Insignificantia ).
Then 343 came along and took a massive shit on the lore and put a face to the Forerunnners, made them a separate species from humans (completely ruining the tragic irony that the Covenant had been waging a war against their 'Gods' for years) and took away any mystery that was carefully curated by Bungie over a decade.
I cannot say how long I've been looking for this, though I can say that I am more than happy to have finally found it. Behold a pale horse, for upon it rides death. Truly, "The Ark" is the best of all the levels of the Halo series. At the very least, it is my favorite.
The forerunners were full of mystery and wonder, and it should have stayed that way. I firmly believe that. Introducing them and trying to flesh them out took away a lot of the intrigue and mystery that made players endlessly speculate and theorycraft. Mystery is a powerful thing for your franchise. And Halo has answered nearly all of them at this point. Kinda sad to see. Bungie knew how to keep you wondering.
That is sadly so true. I truly wish you were wrong, I really do. But you're right. The original developers of bungie taking their leave from the company one by one slowly drove nails into the eventual coffin of the Halo franchise. The OG devs saw Halo as their pride and joy, their magnum opus. But all good things must come to an end. 343 never saw Halo that way. They are simply a team of game developers tasked to make another Halo game. No love nor inspiration in their work. Ask any of the guys that helped create Halo 1 to Halo Reach. They'll tell everyone how much they disagree with many of the decisions made by 343. The lore of the forerunners being one of them. In a better timeline, Bungie wouldn't have gave up on Halo so quickly.
The original Halo trilogy made the Forerunners feel so powerful and noble and mysterious. They were divine beings capable of creating and destroying worlds. All life was created by them - humanity, Covenant, and all organisms in every world in existence. The Forerunners also made the Flood feel so much darker, because as far as we knew, the Flood was an ancient cosmic evil that predated the Forerunners, having arrived from outside the galaxy to consume everything. You're under the impression the Flood had consumed other galaxies before, which implies the existence of other beings comparable to the Forerunners. And it makes wonder, who were _they?_ Who were those other "Forerunners"? Who were the Forerunners, themselves? And what hope does humanity have against the Flood when far greater beings couldn't eradicate it? Everything was just full of mystery and awe and fear and wonder. That all went away after the Halo franchise decided to directly explore the Forerunners, making them appear cliche and generic. It's too bad, because the mystery of the Forerunners and the fact you never actually saw them is what made the original trilogy so enchanting.
343 revealing the Forerunners was just as bad as Paramount making so many unnecessary lore changes in the Halo show. It's unthinkable how everything Halo related went downhill after Halo: Reach; nobody saw that coming.
A game ahead of its time this exact song gives off a mysterious vibe I’m glad I was around to play halo 3 when it first released man the hype for it back then damn wish I could go back really...

Listening to this gives me a sudden, intense desire for there to be a Myst game set on a Forerunner installation. Learning about the origin and reason for the structures to exist, figuring out how to operate ancient machinery and open long locked doors.
I don't think I've ever seen the level from this PoV; that Forerunner structure in the centre with the rest of the Ark spanning out is near breath-taking. Hard to believe an area I thought so massive with a scarab actually turns out to be so small.
