The fact that Gintoki had to kill his master with his own hands is probably the very last thing that people expected. It came so fast from the left field that everyone was practically caught by surprise. This is what separates Gintama from the rest of the shounen.
Sorachi doesn't want to milk the story like other shonen.. instead he did the opposite by doing such a fast paced story, I mean that back story is still lacking with the bonds and other classmates in the school.. that always leaves me wanting to know more

If other anime mc was on that situation, they won't kill their master or their friends... They'll fight the enemies that surrounding them which is impossible, but somehow they didn't fail or killed. In Gintama, they know that in this situation, they needed a sacrifice. That showed how realistic Gintama is

now,remember that Gintoki was fighting bunch of Yato before and could go toe to toe with Takasugi and after that in Rakuyou arc he's healed faster than Takasugi,while Takasugi still lay in bed Gintoki had fully healed,implying that Gintoki is the best when it comes to healing his wounds,Takasugi is the best at recruitting and commanding with aggresive style,while Katsura was best at commanding with defensive style but when he throw his cowardy away he's more beastly than the others,and for Sakamoto it was his money and voice
I remember watched GINTAMA back in 2018 coz of ma friend influence me (thx sista) at 1st I can't hold w the dirty jokes but damn the fights in every arc is 😢
