I saw someone else comment this on another video but I’ll type it here too.
The name Katsura, has always been associated with the title “Runaway Kotaro, the Cowardly General”. But Gin, Sakamoto and Takasugi know him better. They know he’s not a coward, and that’s why they always call him by his other name “Zura, the Rampaging Noble”.
And Zura knows it full well too. Whenever he’s undercover, running away from the Shinsengumi, or just living life, he goes by the name Katsura. But when he’s serious, when he’s actually fighting to kill, he goes by Zura.
And Sorachi has been giving us hints of that from way back in the Benizakura arc. During the epic fight with the Harusame, he never corrected Gin for calling him Zura. Only AFTER the fight, when they were already running away, did he correct himself and went back to Katsura.
One of the most badass line Katsura have said: Katsura Janai. Zura da!!!
You may laugh at "Zura", but when he steps into a fight, the heaven will shake and the earth will rumble.
Remember those four where basically 16-17 years old at the war

I really think that in terms of swordsmanship, Gintoki is the most experienced and probably the strongest out of the 4 but Katsura can be considered the most talented and the smartest in battle.
I think Gintoki is more skilled with a sword, he always flips the fight with insane tricks and techniques, plus maybe stronger willpower. But I don't see Katsura any bit inferior in fight, he is WAY more athletic and strong physically. He literally endures crushing concrete buildings with his body, while Gin always passed out or went temporary immobile from even less damage. Zura is almost as strong as some of the best Yato PLUS possesses Okita-lvl swordmastership skills (it was stated), making him at least as dangerous as Gin with a real katana.
@@connorcoco2152 Sogo is significantly above Hiji, his loss in duel was called odd so normally he would outclass him the vast majority of times. Sogo ment to be equal to Gin in Excalibur arc and it also was the only fight where Shinpachi doubted Gintoki. He gave Kamui a fight very similar to Gintoki but in last case Kamui had already been beaten up by Umi and Kagura. In my opinion Gin is more mature, strong-willed, overall more experienced and maybe a bit superior physically but in pure swordmastership Okita is basically a top-tier samurai.
I said Katsura ~ Okita only because it was directly stated in anime. Fencing in equal terms with Shimaru was Zura's limit without going wild and using his body strength. So again, when it comes to swordmastership Gin/Zura/Sogo/Saito have a barely noticeable difference.
@@franklynjackson7359 probably but again shoyo students were fighting a war at 16, mean while sougo almost at his 20 is doing petty schemes against Toshi. There is a heavy difference is them and sougo like do u think sougo will last against takasugi for more than a few minutes?
@@Arthur-sk3bm Sougo lost to Toshi at 18, Joui trio were 17 during the war. 1 year difference. And "few minutes" is too much for Gintama fights, even equal characters can end the duel instantly (like Gin/Jirocho). Sougo lasted enough against Utsuro and said to himself that it's the only enemy that he has no chances against (already fought Kamui and Gin).
Also when Toshiro went beast he made even Oboro sweat, so Sougo would give him and Takasugi a truly rough fight.
@@franklynjackson7359 bruh Toshi lost instantly, just cause of kondo from behind he did something. Sougo is a character who is not supposed to look weak he is a pure sadist. Just think about it do u think he will do any damage to jiroya or someone almost on gin lvl before getting fully destroyed

@@aryadamarfi1675 in terms of the raw fight I agree with you. However, when you consider the situation (story), the buildup, the flashbacks, etc.. during the fights, then the Gintoki vs Takasugi fight is one of the best ones ever made in all of media.
