I don't think you understand the visa process for foreigners. One must first come to India with a tourist visa - hence the guesthouses. Then, to join Auroville one must leave the country and come back on an entry visa granted by paperwork from Auroville. Hosting guests costs money and time - hence the guest contribution. As an Indian national you may look at this and think it's a scam because none of this applies to you. You can just go to Auroville and start volunteering and join or work as an employee.
As for people having a side hustle and making money from housing outside Auroville, that is allowed. What's not allowed is making money for yourself with Auroville's land and immovable assets(houses).

I don't think you understand, these are new processes in place being enforced. There is no employee concept, as that requires a business visa. On a volunteer visa you can only volunteer. Calling guest contributions, still means renting. And you are not talking to a stranger in Auroville, I am FOA. You do agree that government land is given on rent and sale to enjoy possession hence the Ministry of Education said "common land for personal use" is there anything else you wish clarifications on? When the Mother said free housing, free food in lieu of labor / skills provided doesn't it mean the institution is charging people instead ? And then forcing people to work outside so that they can pay the living cost? You do understand that the Humanscape scam is since donations were collected for free housing, public grants as well. And I don't think you know the details of the criminal case on this. I'm glad that even this you all wish to give flimsy explanations for. All the very best for it. ;)

@@VikramRamFilms All I have to go by is what's online. Auroville hires locals to do work. This is normal for non-profits if they don't have the expertise. A business visa isn't needed for this. So as an Indian national you can get hired and go work there without joining.
Guest contributions are charged to non-Aurovillians who are typically tourists, both Indian nationals and foreigners. This pays for their electricity, room cleaning, food, etc. If there are any profits it goes to pay the workers and then excess goes to the foundation. If this isn't what's happening, then yes it's a violation of the non-profit principle and a breach of fiduciary duty.
I'll never understand why people get so crazy when money is involved. This is the main reason why Auroville was created.

@WhyteHorse2023 You are referring to the changes online now, these are old videos. Things have changed and are being streamlined. That aside we are purely focusing on something else here in this video, not visas and business.

You cannot go and just join. I am an NRI lived in Dubai. I wanted to be a part of Auroville to create a organic farm, but could not do it. I traveled there and just to join you need to spend 4 years of your valuable life for just to put the name on the list of becoming a aurovillian. Secondly if something happen and you lose the aurovillian residency you loose that money. For Indian citizens its not straight forward. I was in Buddha garden, and the owner of that farm sat on the land board and even to lease a small land to create a farm you, you need to waste 6 years of your life.
any business you need 3 to 4 years to break even. So basically you waste 10 years or so of your life and in the end there is no confirmation that in your old days you'd be living there. Its a rip off and a money milking scheme. I wanted to create a brand of organic spices and food products to export, and had so many ideas when I first came to Auroville in 2021, I was deeply sad and cried at moment, but then I left India again, to create schooling, transportation create more opportunities but I was astonished with hoops of laws that looks on the paper as they are milking your energy and finite time in your life.
