Would also recommend a few books I have enjoyed reading around Archetypes. 45 Master Characters, The Writers Journey, The Hero Within, The Heroines Journey. Some of those are writing related, however they were fantastic resources for my magical path. Mythology. That gave me some entry way to look at Archetypes and experience them through different forms of Magic. I really love the film exercise. I am coming into the archetype of the Valkyrie at the moment. Also Carol Myss and her Archetype Deck is a great tool to dive right into the Archetype journey of exploration as well. I have similar feelings around The Damsel in Distress, and the Archetype. Love this video so much. Just takes me deeper into the journey and I love it. Especially reflecting on the archetypes of men and correlation towards abusive people.

Oh, Carrie's mom disgusts me SO much, and reminds me of a few people in my life that were very religious and abusive. The people who bullied Carrie made me so angry, as I was bullied throughout my school years. Carrie made me reflect on my own anger and rage towards abuse. There were times I went into my imagination, and set fire to the people who abused me, or the people I cared for.
As a youth I looked to the bad ass warrior woman archetype (She-Ra, Cat Woman, Xena Warrior Princess, Sailor Scouts, Artemis) to try and build those qualities within myself. I never really saw myself as thick-skinned, or tough growing up. In reality I was quite a tough cookie, but I didn't give myself recognition for my own fiery qualities. I've had my moments of bravery in confrontations, to be fair, but I never believed in my own power as a youth. I now know that there was a great deal of gaslighting going on that led to me having confusion about my personal narrative and identity growing up...it's so good to be on the other side of that. Lagertha and Daenerys definitely inspire me nowadays to embrace my personal sovereignty with trust and faith. :)
For as long as I can remember The male archetype I've always had an affinity for is the wise wizard... Merlin, Gandalf, and Dumbledore. The knowledgable bearded ones. I think I have an invisible beard.

You are so skilled with explaining concepts. This video basically summarizes decades of odd and ends I have pieced together about archetypes, shadow work, the self and magical constructs. It took such a long time for me to put these thoughts together and you just spilled it all out into the ethernet in the most eloquent and logical way. Brava Bella! This is why I keep coming to your channel. Yes, I would enjoy more on any of these topics. It's also a big treat to see your altar tours. Muahs!

I could also recommend joining up a Gaming community like a Table Top RPG world, or a Role Playing site like RP repository if you want to explore archetypes, magic and writing together with other people. This has helped me, and other people I know. There is such magic in exploring different communities, and worlds.

I've always been an avid daydreamer - like for as long as I could remember, and as I grew older I began to notice that my daydreams have strong archetypal elements to it - like I could always observe the characters I was interacting with and the storylines that I was exploring in my imagination and gain levels of self-awareness that I didn't have before. Like I would look at the character that I wanted to embody at a particular time and I would come to understand my emotional needs and what was going on in my psyche. I don't think I've realized that I might have always been doing imagination exercises/ visualization exercises/ pathworking with the archetypes in my life. Some of the archetypes that I like to embody in my "dream realm" are: the trickster / the rebel that punctures the pretense and judgement of society, the healer that brings out epiphanies and soothes the wrinkles of somebody's soul, the warrior princess that is both beautiful and fierce, the whimsical wayfarer that dwells in the "in-between" spaces. I think I'd also been a vampiress at certain times in my life ahahahahha.
Anyways. Thank you for the two videos about archetypes! I've always been in love with archetypes and I've always explored them actively but this is really taking my perspective and understanding to a totally different level...especially since recently I've started working with the akashic records and I'm realizing that I am actually very fluid in "traversing the different dream spaces"...something I've never recognized in myself. And also recognizing a few new "old" archetypes that have always existed in my imagination but never in my conscious understanding. E.g. I've always known I love the trickster and the rebel and the inner child archetype but I never thought the warrior princess archetype was a big one - yet it's probably the biggest archetype in my life!! Something I just realized recently.
ANYHOO ESSAY FINISHED!! Thank you again for this video!!!!!! You inspire me. xoxo

Thank you for talking about the damsel in distress issues, I've had that my entire life. Dad prioritized one of my sisters due to her mental and emotional issues and figured my other sister and I didn't need him as much and then I ran into the same issues with relationships. I was either "the man in the relationship if I ended up with men who couldn't hold their own or I'd find men who wanted to be someone's emotional knight in shining armour and would leave me for women who were mental and emotional messes. I've always had certain story characters that don't exist, certain Greek & Norse Gods and Goddesses including the fiery Goddess Pele, Pagan deities, etc.. I thought I was the only one. A long time ago, I did a video about how I found, resonance, connection, and inspiration from book characters in all of my fantasy and sci-fi books. Thank you for doing this video. I feel less isolated. LOL You re always my "go to" for inspiration and confirmation about myself and my eccentric ways. ♥️🙏

I'm so glad you mentioned Frodo, I'd like to work with that character at some point. He's very special to me, and I see a lot of hatred for that character. To me Frodo represents the one who struggles in silence, specially with depression. When he tells Sam that he can't remember the taste of food or the feeling of grass, that all he sees is that big eye, watching him (i'm paraphrasing here, can't remember exactly what the quote is) I always thought 'yup, that's what it feels like to be depressed; when you can't even remember the joy things like food or music or anything feels like anymore, all you feel is despair. Many people see Sam as the 'true' hero of the story and like to see themselves as Sam, the simple, good-hearted positive helper, because is nice to see oneself like that, but not that many people want to see themselves as the one who needs help, the one who struggles and sometimes fails. But those are the reasons why Frodo resonates so much with me. Cause he's flawed, but he did his best, and assumed the responsibility that noone else could or wanted to assume.

Great video, I love working with archetypes. A fun exercise can be to find connections between the characters in our various oracle and tarot decks, and in favourite books, and to see if we can "group" them together into the archetype they're expressing. (And it's fun to see how many of them overlap, too...)
Of course, if you ACTUALLY group all your oracle and tarot cards by archetypes, it can be job and a half to get them all back in order again!! 😆

    • @kelly-annmaddox

My first year back at witching, I had pics of Tia Dalma and The Ghost of Christmas Present (the young one with the long dark, curl hair and open, green robe (😆). I framed them and put them on my altar and used them as you describe here! Why not....the deities were created in a similar way I suspect. There is also an archetype deck created by a psychologist I believe. There is a whole process the creator describes in the book for using the deck. They’re called “Archetype cards” by Caroline Myss. Thanks for the great video and ideas you share Kelly✨

When I was little I love Star Trek TNG - I used to imagine that the enterprise was secretly observing Earth of the past through a worm hole and that they would one day come and take me to explore galaxies with them 😂
Picard was very much the “father” archetype I needed and looked to. But Tasha Yar was who I wanted to be. She was a Warrior but had so much sexuality in an almost androgynous kind of way. I identified with that archetype a lot! When she died I was heartbroken hahahaha.
Child play is all about playing with the archetypes and it’s such a shame we are told to squash this side of ourselves and lose the natural storytelling as adults.

I have only ever done that kind of thing a few times... like for instance I once did an invocation of Jimmy Page the night before a gig with a band I hadn't played live with in several years... we were filling in a slot with no practice beforehand (I don't know why I said yes because that's really a set up for a disaster). Anyway somehow, we not only pulled it off but it was widely considered one of the best shows we ever played. I will likely work with this idea some more in the future... the results are usually pretty spectacular... anyway thank you for sharing this video... Blessed Be... :)

Hi Kelly-Ann, because you asked--and if you are still seeing comments here--I have been working with the Empress from Tarot of Vampyres ever since American Thanksgiving Holiday 2018. I trance easily to her picture from the card box or online, channel words from her, have a journal collecting with her comments on the ToV cards, have a mantra with Buddhist meditation beads, and include her in bowing to Goddess when I call a circle of 8 Goddess names. Several of your videos have been helpful, maybe especially the admission here that prayer and worship involving such obviously human-made images can feel silly or wrong. I don't know if I will get back here to see a reply, but I am on the Cartomancy Forum in the Journal section. Thanks for all you do.

I've heard many a Tolkein enthusiast/"scholar" argue that while Frodo is the "chosen one," Sam is the actual hero of the story, so I think what you feel makes sense! Frodo isn't really a fully realized character - he fulfills a role.

    • @DiamondHobbit
      @DiamondHobbit 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@AlchemicalEmma Exactly. Sam really is a hero. I sometimes wish Frodo wasn't two-dimensional, because he had a lot of potential for deeper analysis of his personality. But maybe that was what Tolkien wanted to point out; that the common man, like Sam, could truly do good in the world.

    • @AlchemicalEmma
      @AlchemicalEmma 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I believe so. It's been a long time since I've read any Tolkein, but he definitely stressed the idea of the humble Hobbits then being the ones who go on these epic quests and end up saving the world, like Bilbo or Frodo or Sam, despite all odds.

I'll try to list some archetypes that I used. I used to like women who used sexuality and desire as empowerment. I liked Poison Ivy, Catwoman and Aphrodite. I even watched wrestling and soaps and for some reason liked evil, manipulative women. Stephanie McMahon and later on Lita. I slowly became attracted to flawed, strong women. More punk rock. Nancy from the Craft, Maleficent, Lara Croft. I was a geek, picked on and I was always wanting the attraction of men ( daddy issues) but popular so no one would pick on me. My Disney princesses were always Belle and Pocahontas. I always wanted to be free, explore, adventure. Belle segued into Harley Quinn. That needing to heal and love the monster. Even musically I went from pop princesses to rock royalty. I played the dumb blonde to get people to think I was so dumb I was funny and therefore cute. I was obsessed with Legally Blonde and Karen from Mean Girls. I eventually started to like wounded characters who were dangerous. Dark Phoenix, Ophelia, Willow Rosenberg, Carrie as such. I wanted people to love my wounds, my cracks. I always shifted between using archetypes that would get others to like me and who I really am. I was picked on and it took some of my softness. I'm this Stark contrast of black and white with no real grey area. I loved rowdy chicks like tank girl but knew I am more of a introverted loner. I loved Luna Lovegood, Arwen from LOTRs, Misty Day, Zoe Benson, Violet Harmon and even Madison Montgomery. It goes to show my skin to the "bitch" archetypes. Lol. (Referring to Madison.) Goddesses for me were Artemis. I loved she lived alone in the woods with her animals and chosen nymphs. Persephone reminds me best of me. I had to venture to the dark realm. It calls to me. Even genres. I get labeled a perky goth because I love love like a hippie but crave darkness and horror like goths. I love DiDi Death of the Endless and Delirium of the Endless from the Sandman series. I was never smart enough to be a geek just esoteric enough to be a nerd. I wasn't strong enough to be an athlete but I was a tomboy. I wasn't pretty enough to be popular but I was pretty enough to participate in a pageant. I wasn't so antisocial I was a loner but an introvert. A lot of the archetypes are used to be what people need of me. I'm currently working on embracing my own goddess self. Not influenced or impressed by anything. I still listen to music, watch scenes from film or movies to build my portrait on a very blank canvas with my Shakey hands. Lol. Oh!! Morgan Le Fay. Loved her. Okay, I'll stop rambling now and see myself out.

Brilliant. I’ve watched more than 100 of your videos and I think this may be my favorite. Thank you Kelly-Ann. Yes to future Art Witch videos and Archetype videos. Thank for referencing self-surveillance - something I’m working through. Well, I have work to do. I’m going to follow your advice and find some lists and do some journaling.

Thank you for this greatly interesting and educational video. You are helping me in my journey so much!
(The actual problem is that, thinking about the characters from Vikings, I connect and resonate a lot with... Ivar! I think he's adorable. That's scary! :D )

Your input on Archetypes has influenced me to view all characters in media and the people in my life in a different light. How I am able to attach the image of archetypes to my own image, and to analyze the images of those around me has opened a whole new world of understanding and analysis. Thanks love! Blessed Be!

Ugh, so good! I totally did this last year as a recapitulation practice and, you know what, it worked because now that they're integrated, I can hardly remember what they were anymore. And YES to the punk archetypes. Ian MacKaye, Patti Smith, and Cristy Road have definitely been that for me since teens.

An idea I had to do with archetypes, is if a particular "facet" of one doesn't exist, write/create your own. Like maybe I'm out of the loop, but there aren't many lady Trickster types. So you sort of write your own, what she looks like, what she does in particular, that sort of thing. Sort of like creative writing about the Trickster you want to see in the world. Does this make sense?

Lol, my favorite pop culture female trickster is from the original Bewitched TV show, Endora, Samantha's Mother. I love the way she messed with Darrin with such pretentious witchy airs! Plus her costumes were fabulous!

Could you make a video on archetypal narratives that we like to be part of or resonate with? And about daydreaming or the power of daydreaming, perhaps. :) I always find daydreaming extremely powerful and it's sort of a gateway / bridge / in-between-space to one's subconscious

Yes I did love cersi and the mother of dragons..the red witch...vs more goody two shoes...Stevie Nicks..perhaps because movies gave the more darker characters more layers..mystery..power. I often felt powerless and most movies and music growing up gave men that role (born in 75)

I'd love to eventually work with archytpes, but I'm not sure how to allow myself to be more open to the concept - especially if I feel drawn to both ancient deities/titans and comic book characters, unless it's just something you push through with experimentation.

Also, love your suggestions around Archetypes.

Wahhhh I’m loving this. I think I’ve naturally done this in a more subtle way for years. Connecting with characters that have an aspect like me and kinda imagining them there with me when I need to be brave or something. I always had imaginary friends as a child too, each with a specific strength and if take that one with me to get through XY and Z difficult or fun situation. We have natural good ideas as kids right. Then society makes them wrong 😭 Again, brilliant video! I’m going to work on this!

Yes praying cards! I love DIYs!! It'll sound really weird, but I had a dream about you recently. You were kicking my bum shouting to "move my ass". And here it is -video about archetypes. I guess I should get moving my spiritual ass :) When I was a kid (under 8 yr) I saw myself as Cinderella, I wanted to be saved because my mother was bad stepmother, abusing me physical and emotionally. Later on I had sex-crisis, because only archetypes I was identifying (adventurous, brave, funny, imaginative) were male/boys, so I wanted to be a boy myself. Later on when I was 13 and 16 I found Trinity ("Matrix") and Selena ("Underworld") and my life and style changed. I still have some blocks when it comes to mother and soft females archetypes, because of my relationship with my mother and the way sensitivity and kindness were ridiculed. And found that animal can be substitutes for archetypes, so I use "archetype" of mother lioness as one who is both loving and fierce. Another member of my spiritual "band" is Baba Yaga, bawdy and not worried about what other think grandmother, provider of thought love and wise advise. Thank you for your amazing content and kicking me in my sleep ;) Blessed Be

I love this topic! It got me thinking how similar most of my favorite characters are. Something I do that might seem a bit different is, because I collect Funko Pops, I have one of Te Fiti and another of Te Ka from Disney's Moana on either side of my alter space. I work a lot with dualities, and felt that these two figures really embody the different sides of Mother Earth. On my ancestral alter I also have the Harry Potter creature of a thestral which really helps me with the continuing grief of my grandfather. Funko Pops are usually around $10 and are pretty small if anyone is interested in doing something similar; They have a huge selection as well!
