    I love the lore tab for Gjallarhorn
    *Gjallarhorn*
    “If there is beauty in destruction, why not also in its delivery?” - Feizel Crux
    Randy finally reaches the Tower. It was a long road from the Cosmodrome, but Shaw Han had given him some good directions. His ship had only exploded twice on the trip from Old Russia, and while he defended his Ghost's second (and much better) repair job, he even found some loot!
    As he materializes on the receiving pad of the Tower, a gathering horde of Humans and Guardians of all "ages" gather around a singular figure deep in the crowd. Randy can feel an almost mythic aura-exotic, even-radiating from the figure. He jabs his scuffed elbows through the crowd to get a clear look. When he finally breaks through, he understands the draw: the Guardian. They stand, one leg propped up on the Tower railing. Randy's Ghost talked about this person a few times before. Some kind of hero.
    Big deal. Randy was a hero too.
    "Amazing," a Titan says about the weapon in the Guardian's hands. Randy looks at the Titan wearing a strange chainmail visor.
    "It's just a rocket launcher. I got one of those in Old Russia the other day," Randy brags proudly, unholstering a launcher.
    His Ghost, Dandy, nudges him. "Now listen here, berry blue," Dandy says. "What you are looking at in the Guardian's hands is a top-of-the-line wolfpack deployment device. Each firing of which unleashes hell in the form of a swarm of homing micro rockets. I've told you a flock of crows is called a murder? Well, they really should've reserved the name for this swarm instead."
    Randy holds up his Bad Omens. "I can put a tracking module on this." Dandy chuckles. "I guess."
    Randy looks at the Bad Omens. His pride turns into frustration at the mediocrity of his equipment. In a fit of anger, he heaves the launcher over the Guardian's head and over the Tower railing.
    The Guardian pivots and drops to a solid stance. They shoulder and fire off the Gjallarhorn like a volcanic eruption, blowing the Bad Omens to smithereens. Micro tracking rockets hunt down and turn each piece of falling debris to fireworks before they hit the ground. The acrid-sweet smell of burning fuel hangs in the air.
    Randy's jaw drops.
    The Guardian steps forward and places the Gjallarhorn into Randy's hands with a smile.
    "Start your legend with this instead."

    About Part 1 of controversy: This isn't new. Gjallahorn is rather innocent compared to Anarchy, Izanagi's, Lament and many other paywalled exotics owning the meta. DPS for most people would be tough if you haven't paid a cent to Destiny 2. Also, as mentioned in the video the other Exotic perk literally buffs your allies non-exotic rocket launchers and encourages bringing out your god roll rocket launchers for stronger DPS, Meaning there isn't an LFG problem of "Gjallahorn or kick". And 25 dollars is definitely worth it for this content where we get this, and other weapons from the dungeon, and even Artifice armor giving an extra slot for artifact mods. Having a third artifact mod can buff stackable mods, and let players bring 3 champion mods for every kind without issue.
    Probably a hot take, but to my standards Gjallahorn is currently a balanced Exotic Rocket Launcher, and is only "broken" if you do basic things like buffing your damage with mods like Argent, Elemental Wells and Warmind mods. Just like how Titans have been able to turn a funny hammer into Mjolnir, doing hundreds of thousands to millions per throw with buffs, mods and Tractor Cannon. And also if Paid exotics aren't powerful to a degree people would argue why they're paying for it in the first place.

    • @sunshotwithanornament2475
      @sunshotwithanornament2475 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I’d definitely agree with the fact G horn isn’t broken. Originally I did actually think so but it’s not that crazy what I will say though is it’s definitely very high up and it compares to a lot of linears paired with particle deconstruction which I don’t think should necessarily be happening

    • @Rnjesus386

      @@sunshotwithanornament2475 well why wouldn’t it be that powerful? As the man said, it’s behind a paywall. If it was a bad exotic not only would that be a bad look on bungie to d1 vets but just a bad look in general. If linears didn’t have particle decon they wouldn’t necessarily even be in the meta right now. The damage numbers from gjally are in the right place

    Bungee wanted to avoid raid exclusion, the pack being $25 doesn’t matter as the solution is already built into the gun.
    As long as you have a decent rocket launcher you no longer face that barrier to entry.
    you basically have all of gjallarhorns perks on hand.
    your win condition in your back pocket provided someone else has the gjallarhorn.

      What's going to get you in lfgs is arguably worse, if you don't have a good roll rocket launcher, gjallahorn catalyst is the next best thing.

    • @CHEWYPROOF

    When Ghorn was announced to come back, I was actually fairly confident that Bungie wouldn't mess it up. The community loves to accuse Bungie for poor balancing but this was a very calculated move. They knew that Gjallarhorn carried a huge implication that they had to get right and when put into the context of the current D2 landscape, the exotic isn't as such of an outlier as most people would knee-jerk think upon initial reaction.
    First, we have to look at the current landscape for top dps options, immediately it's a stark difference from D1 ie. There are multiple options available that provide similar levels of performance:
    - Sleeper
    - PD fusions (as of S15)
    - *Whisper + Divinity
    - Anarchy/Witherhoard + another weapon
    - Lament
    - Lucky pants + Handcannon
    etc...
    Back in D1, it was either Ghorn or none. The very fact that players have a selection of viable high damage weapons to choose from rather having to pray that RNGesus smiles upon them for one weapon to drop immediately starts to dispell Ghorns first issue that everyone was concerned about (before you @ me, yes I'm aware that some of the examples I shared are not the 'meta' options (currently or otherwise) but that doesn't change the fact that they do notably more damage than other weapons. Also some people may have a preference towards one weapon type over another, nothing is stopping you from slaying out with a weapon that differs from what some one else tells you is the 'must have' weapon of the season).
    Second is the balance when compared to said other dps options. Whisper and Sleeper undoubtedly provide more bang for your buck in terms of total damage, but you have to land crits consecutively which makes them more difficult to use. PD fusions provide great dps, total damage and potentially doesn't use your exotic slot, but particle deconstruction will only last until the end of the season. Witherhoard/Anarchy combo can potentially provide greater dps/total damage than other options, but you have to dedicate 2 weapons to it as opposed to one. Lament provides high burst dps just like Ghorn with great ammo economy and ad clear potential, but it suffers in sustained dps and the user must be point blank to use it. Ghorn provides its own dps niche: High burst dps, good sustained dps and ad clear as well as ease of use, but has low ammo reserves resulting bad ammo economy and comparatively lower total damage.
    Last and most importantly, a team DOESN'T HAVE to have every player run Ghorn. Pack Hunter was clearly designed to be an anti 'must have Gjallahorn' perk. So anybody with a well rolled legendary rocket can participate and theoretically do better than Ghorn, so long as at least one Ghorn is present. Which also helps to dispell players need to buy the anniversary pack. It's a rather clever trick when you think about it: they knew that the target audience for the pack are primarily D1 vets high on nostalgia. And because of it, people who didn't buy the pack are more than likely to come across at least one player in their team that has a Gjally which rends the issue of Gjallarhorn promoting power creep, exclusivity or the price tag issue (at least in my eyes) a moot point.

    • @4ncientGu150
      @4ncientGu150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      See, I thought the point of Pack Hunter sharing the Wolfpack rounds was that it sored it around and showed people how awesome it was.
      It made the rocket launcher into a walking ad, don't you want this? Look how amazing this is!
      I didn't even consider how it combats the whole, must have Gjally or else problem. That was probably their main intention.

    But the quest was actually nice, showed me a more fleshed out character. He was excited to see the return of gala, wanted it back properly. He admits that even he had taken a few peaks into the loot cave out of curiosity. And I think what did it for me was when he gives us the base for the rocket.
    He hands us something he gives the new lights to practice with before it was decommissioned. He takes a moment to pause our conversation to teach a new light how to form a Grenade before continuing. I was Team Edward and luckily got gjallarhorn early on and knew it was good but didn’t know how good, I can’t even remember how I got it but that I did and I was loved in raids, shame when xur sold it, felt like some exotics should have been things you always hoped for not knowing when or how you’d get them but surprisingly getting one was the best feeling you’d ever feel

    In 2015-2016 I was 17 years old in high school and I had 2 herniated discs in my back. I was in constant pain and had pretty much lost my life, I couldn’t go out with my friends anymore because I was in so much pain, I only went to school for the 3 classes I needed to graduate and then went back home. I played a ton of Destiny 1 in year 1 of the game because I couldn’t do anything else and I finally got my first Gally during the House of Wolves dlc from Atheon. It was 1 in the morning and my buddy had to go to bed as soon as we got done with the raid. I couldn’t sleep most of the time because of my back so I would save all my daily bounties from the vanguard, Petra in the Reef and I think there was more from maybe Eris or someone else but I would run all the bounties on all 3 characters through the night after my buddy went to bed. I did the night I got the gally and for D1 vets you know how much of a grind it was to fully upgrade an exotic but with all those bounties I got it done in 1 night. My buddy got on the next morning with me and saw that and couldn’t believe I had it done already haha. I played till hard mode of the taken king and then quit for several years, just started playing again a few months ago and love where the game is at right now

    About the not excluding people from raids part. That new perk solves it, it is more beneficial to have one person using it and the rest having really good legendary rocket launchers since they will deal more damage.

    I got my Gjallarhorn from the Vault of Glass. I remember it like it was yesterday. I had extremely good luck that day also getting the Mida earlier that day. I then spent hours just upgrading my new weapon to max just to get the wolfpack rounds perk. Hard to believe how much destiny has changed! Exotics used to be so mysterious and rare. My friend at work got the Universal Remote and he went on and on about it. I miss that time and the late night raids just to finally get Vex Mythoclast and finally completed my journey for the best weapons in the game.

    My Ghorn story in d1, I got it before Xur even sold it in week 2 tried it when I got it “oh so this is just like the legendary one why would I use this” (remember in d1 you had to upgrade it for the Wolfpack) so I had the god gun basically immediately and didn’t know to use it for ages until the community levelled it and realised how great it was

    I think the $25 price is fine because you don’t just get Gjallerhorn, you get a good sword, a great handcannon and shotgun, and (probably) the best PvP Sniper in the game, AND you get an amazing dungeon. Another reason is the Wolfpack Rounds is one of the things that makes Gjallerhorn itself and it can give other (non-exotic) rocket launchers the Wolfpack Rounds. As long as 1 person has it, everyone has it.

    I find it ironic that it's named after a mythical horn that signals the beginning of Ragnarok and that the Witch Queen is the first chaper of the end, Lightfall is the middle chapter, and now with the Final Shape being the last chapter of the Light and Darkness Saga is kinda cool, in my opinion.

  • @vV_Viggo
    @vV_Viggo 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    There has been a slight improvement for the LFG Gjallarhorn issue. Before it was “everyone must have G-horn,” whereas now it’s “at least one person must have a masterworked G-horn and everyone else run a good Rocket Launcher.” It’s kind of a band-aid patch, but a sherpa is more likely to have that covered. The price tag, however, is a rather large barrier to entry.
    Also, if you think Gjally on its own is busted, try it with Solar Warmind Cell mods. Literally Ragnarok incarnate. Can clear a Dares level in seconds.

    Hi Evan, In my humble opinion regarding the power creep issue: Bungie has a tendency to launch new content in an overpowered state to provide players an incentive to try out the new stuff. That content usually ends up getting nerfed as the game continues to evolve and add new overly hot content (think of stasis, and the new sword frames). Right now, given that theres a high chance that next seasons big shot mod is a RL one, theres a chance that Gally will be a little too hot at the end of season 16, but remember what happened with Anarchy after Breach and Clear. Also, I think they mentioned that they wanted to add more difficulty options into their content (at least with a legendary version of the campaign) so I think this might be balanced in future releases standards. That said, keep up the great work, happy hollidays!

    13:55 which is actually a nerf making it inferior to any legendary with Wolfpack, you lose all impact dmg from ghorn so the best dps actually is just 5 hothead/royal entree 1 ghorn. A nice way to avoid gatekeeping raids though since only 1 person needs it

    They should've made it a random drop from the first part of the dungeon where you kill enemies in the loot cave.
    The issues with destiny exotics is that they tell you what is needed, instead of having actual secret quest.

    • @Rahburrito
      @Rahburrito 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of people will disagree with this, but I agree. Exotics kind of lose their "exotic" status when the way to get them is clearly spelt out for you, and you just basically talk to an NPC to get it. D1 exotics were mysterious and, well, exotic. Finding them felt really good, hence all the reactions you can find on TH-cam of people getting Ghallarhorn. Hell, even getting something like Suros or Hawkmoon sort got a response like that. We need more random drop and secret quest exotics. They don't have to be like whisper or zero hour, just make them feel rare and special again.

    Since the "Pack Hunter" Perk makes all other legendary rocket launchers as strong as gjallarhorn (and with the right perks even stronger) I don't mind that it is locked behind a paywall. As long as one of your fireteam members has it (which is the case for these must have GHorn LFG's since this requires the leader to have it) you dont do less damage as a fireteam because someone does not have it.

    The $25 for the 30th anniversary is fine.
    1) Other rockets get Gjallahorns perks, and are actually better than Gjallahorn for DPS, so you dont 'need' it.
    2) Usually we would be paying for another season right now. Instead, we're avoiding having to level up yet again, and getting new content that I like way more than the normal seasonal content.

    I don't mind the pay wall for $25 especially when it could have been worse. Also giving other rocket launchers a nice boost without having the bundle is pretty nice and gives it a fair playing level. I have also noticed that sleeper simulant is still very viable for DPS as well especially when it comes to the new dungeon that way you don't have to have one specific exotic to do big damage on a boss.

  • @Competent_Cobana
    @Competent_Cobana 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For part 2, I honestly think it's fine being busted because even though it is extremely good, we've got a few other exotic heavies that are as good if not better. Plus with the new perk it isn't even optimal to run a full raid team of Gjallarhorns, it's almost like the rocket launcher equivalent of divinity, and if people start unironically telling you that you need to have Gjallarhorn to raid with them then you're probably better off raiding with someone smarter anyway.

    Every Gjallarhorn reaction you show from D1 reminds me of getting mine from the exotic chest in VoG. These reaction videos show that nothing compares to that RNG feeling of finally getting it.
    This is why D2 doesn’t have the D1 vibe. The removal of exotic chests and RNG to get these things, whilst intrinsically unfair provide such amazing moments when it happens. 😀👍. I still smile about getting my GHorn, occasionally. I never smile about the ToM, OP, Whisper or OPerfected.

    Gjallahorn is pretty sweet rn, also u forgot that anyone with a legendary RL gets wolfpack rounds if one member of the fireteam has Gally. So that exclusivity is mute if u have ascendancy as u can have 5 ascendancy's and one gally and u all get wolfpack, which oddly might make that better than 6 gally's. Also with other mega power weapons like 1K, Whisper, and Sleeper Gally is no longer the exclusive that it was in D1. It has reasonable competition.

    Ghorn is absolutely amazing, but I do not think it will be a power creep problem. Its great in general play and lost sector stuff, but in higher end gameplay like GM nightfalls there are better options. arbalest for example is one of the best weapons for GMs but isnt great outside of those activities. Ghorn is great for raids but there are plenty of options that keep up with the damage no problem.

  • @mtaylorfilm
    @mtaylorfilm 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think G’Horn will continue at the current damage output - possibly to drive more sales of dlc? I personally think it should of been an exotic quest as part of the season for all players. I would of liked a solo mission where you obtain it & then by the end, your into a space with 2 other public G’horn Guardians defeating a boss. Pricing could of been slightly lower on the dungeon without G’horn but I suppose the master difficulty of the dungeon does drop extra season mod slot for gear and adept mods! On 1 run I picked up adept handling 👍
