When I heard about the new lights my friend and I didn’t hesitate and immediately when into dares and helped out many new lights and we found new lights in fire teams of 1-3 trying to do it. It was great seeing new lights trying to beat dares together and us being that extra push they needed. I love this community and if there’s new light players in need of help again we are ready to start operation save the new light again😁
Part of the problem was this went down over Christmas break when Bungie was on vacation, they literally could not do anything about it until they came back.
Honestly i find that line of Reasoning to be absolute Bullshit, many are still working at home during that period and couldve quickly gone to their workstation and done some stuff to help out. and if need be they couldve sent a few who were willing to give up a day of their break for extra pay or something to go into the studio and actually address the problem. they just didnt fucking want to because they are pretty lazy Developers.

PSA: there's still new lights stuck in dares, you can lower your light and match with new lights or low lvls. they can fight back but they stand no chance against champions and bosses. we're not done folks
@@JamesZ32100 put on low light white/green gear, queue for Dares, then replace it with your high light legendary/exotic pieces once you're in a match so you can help carry through.
When I started playing d2 two weeks ago dares of eternity was the 1st thing I played after reaching the tower and it was not a living hell. I thought after playing it, wow easy legendaries but there were a bunch of people like rank 4,3,2 hundred players there, there were also low rank people like me.After a few games of dares of eternity it actually became really easy to me, and after playing a lot of dares of eternity and dismantling a bunch of un needed legendaries I am already light level 1255 within 2 weeks, without needing to play every day
Yeah fun fact, none of the people getting queued into that are completely new players. As a F2P player, I had 1 character I made new that just put me through the new light storyline and never forced me to do Dares, but logging into a returning character I had before 30th anniversary DID put me into DoE. Does mean that you probably would have even less of an interest keeping on with it after getting frustrated and giving up, though.
I like how the problem with Dares was both a good and bad thing. Bad because of how people got stuck in Dares underleveled, but great because is showed how the Community got together to help them with Operation New Light Edit: On top of that, I lowkey want something in the game verbally talking about Operation New Light, like either Xur apologizing or Zavala congratulating us.
I found out about this relatively early on when I brought my friend into destiny to troll him in GOA. He got on and said something along the lines of “what the hell is this game?” I was able to join his fireteam and saw firsthand the chaos and bloodshed. Needless to say, I never sweat in destiny so hard in my life and I have the flawless seal gilded
What’s funny is at 3:23 when you said Fortnite invented the battle pass model, it might’ve actually been Destiny. D1’s record book system near the end of the games life cycle worked exactly like modern day battle passes. I don’t know if Destiny was the FIRST game to do this, but it’s definitely the first one that I can think of

while it is really unfortunate that it happened in the first place, I'm honestly kinda glad it did because of how much of an effect it had on the community, it was awesome seeing so many people rush to help the new players be able to get into the rest of the game we already love to play, it's part of why I love destiny in the first place is the impromptu bonding moments like what happened when crossplay launched and all the dance parties in the tower and the black armory puzzles, it really shows that the majority of the community are great people who all love the game in spite of how the loud minority of toxic players make those outside of the community believe the opposite
I have huge problem with the F2P model of Destiny 2. During Shadowkeep, it was easy to recommend Destiny 2 to anyone and everyone. Full D2 Vanilla Story, CoO, Warmind DLC, 5 raids, a huge array of strikes, PvP maps. Lots of weapon to earn, lot to do in every destination plus the menagerie. Now what they have ? 1/4 of the strike playlist, the PvP experiences with cheaters and godtier streamers, visiting destination with nothing to do. A new light quest finished in about 20-30 minutes and Vault of Glass. At least bungie made DoE free to play but still. We are far from what we had during Shadowkeep era and it’s kinda sad.

After 480+ runs of dares imma say it : its like a 7/10 and tbh it was fun helping people through dares on a low light level. Stay united and never fall
Me and my clanmates helped at least 20 new lights. Level 1 with nothing. Throughout all the things I've done in this game, this is still my crowning achievement. My favorite memory.
This is such bull. Came back when 30th anni dropped and was 1100 and had no issue completing it. This was very early before the carries started happening. Same thing when my friend came back to.
Thank you veteran destiny 2 players!! I was a returning player that got into Destiny again and i grinded dares so many times that i carried and got my friends into Destiny

While they fixed dares there are a few other issues like this I learned after starting a FTP account: The first quest you get is the Riskrunner mission. I started it at 1124LL only to find out it was 1200 recommended. In order to unlock the umbral system, you need to accept the "decrypting the darkness" quest at the recaster, but it doesn't show up. They don't tell you, but you need to run the Astral Alignment intro mission in order to get the quest to show up. I loaded in to the mission with three other new lights who were all around 1200 LL and proceeded to be one shot by everything because it was 1250 recommended. It was a bloodbath for 20 minutes before two more people joined in above level and carried us through to the end.
I have a really big soft spot for new lights for some reason. I discovered this around December 15th before everyone else, and spent all that time grinding dares to help those poor new lights until save the new lights was a thing. Im glad the scraps of new lights were assisted to victory
To think. The expansion that tore a community apart in the end brought the community together and made it stronger than before. We lost alot. But gained so much more. not in actual content but in potential. Destiny still has alot of problem but you know your game is in good hands community wise when old lights and guardians lower their light level to help the new lights. And you know the game is fine manager wise when the company is willing to admit when they are wrong and fix the problems. Beyond light truely was a great expansion i say its somewhere new the top 3. TO WITCH QUEEN!
I remember being a new light in D1 and yeah there were a lot of people who dawged me but another set of people who made me love destiny with all my heart, Iv been only playing with new lights this season on Xbox LFG’s and I’ll do it for the next expansion and for the coming future. These lil lights got a lot of fight in them that’s for sure
I think the whole not many lights thing was because so many people lowered their light level that they just out numbered the actual new lights. I usually averaged about 1 to 2 blueberries per run.
I didn't know about the problem with Dares and the light level matchmaking until REALLY late so when I did lower my light level to help it was too late. Almost everyone in the games were there to help out new lights and new lights were few and far between.
I really don’t think gjallarhorn should’ve been placed behind a paywall. On the other hand though, it’s not too much of a big deal to me since it’s not like it’s anarchy levels of good. It’s a great support weapon and with it your teammates can do crazy good damage without even needing an exotic.
Exotic behind a season pass, expansion or dungeon (wish ender, xenophage) = ignore Marketing merely mentions gjallahorn? = proceeds to ignore the rest of the content like 2 armor sets and a well made dungeon. Is it too expensive? Probably, but really acting like you paid $30 just for gjallahorn is copium

I wanted to start playing again so I jumped on steam and started playing (I originally had played on PSN and didn't use cross save right away). I played thru the New Light stuff without playing Dares then decided to bring over my old characters (untouched since year 1 with light lvl 960ish before the transfer) when I eventually started the game I was immediately thrown into a DoE match right near the end. A very strange experience indeed.
I was so confused when I heard the fungal wastes theme pop up, I had been idling in the mantis village for like 5 hours just before watching this and I legit thought my tv had turned back on for a whole min before I realized it was this video

I'm so happy i enter Destiny 2 f2p in Season of Undying, i get so much content and get a chance to play every leviathan raid. It was a blast and one of my best experience that year.
When i heard about this i too dropped my light level to help out the little lights. that is what i love about this games community when this stuff happens we try to help out new players in whatever way we can. d2 players should be proud of how we immediatly step up to the plate to help out new players.
It's clear that this game isn't free to play. It wasn't created with that in mind and there are so many things that cost money that it's laughable they even call it "free to play". It's free to try and the game doesn't give you enough to try so that you can form an appropriate opinion. This either FORCING you to shell out money (for content that may go away as soon as you buy it) or uninstall it if the bit that you got doesn't interest you
Thats weird because for me, when it first dropped, I just quit the game and relaunched (I’m 1349 btw, I just didn’t want to play dares right away) and then it brought me into the regular directer. I didn’t even tru going to orbit normally tbh, I just assumed it was like a requirement so thats why I went to desktop then back to in game. From there, I went right to the dungeon, solo’d the first half to check it out, wanted to finish with friends, then went to dares and unlocking chests
Started playing again for the first time since start of Shadowfall and was thrusted straight into the Dares map. Only saving grace was having my shit auto lifted to 1100 and my Scourge gear still equipped to my Hunter to stand a chance.
I remember this, I had taken a break from destiny 2(stopped at around season of the Drifter) and decided to pop in and see what was going on in destiny 2. was a rude 'welcome' back for sure. since I was just checking in, the experience of dares of eternity even for me a past veteran, had me not return until recently. now that I am the proper light level, dares is fun, but yeah, really sucked getting thrown into it with my hodge podge set of legacy gear trying to remember how to play the game...

Yup I joined recently a year ago and starting off I had absolutely no clue what was going on and then the only thing saving from dares was decent legendaries and graviton forfeit. I clawed our group to victory channeling all my barely use pvp sweat.

This was me. Even worse was my internet sucked so I never got a team I had to do everything solo. Dares and all strikes. Terrible time for me. Thank god I had a buddy that played and he carried me through everything
When I first started in Dares I had a bad time doing it... but then saviorsarrived, my 5 other friends somehow match made into the SAME Dares run and just helped me out. No joke no fireteam and just got lucky
I didn’t know about this until my dad tried to do the event. I was really confused why they were struggling so much. I had to hop onto my pc and join him and basically carry that team to victory
I didn't realize that it was an actual Community op with dedicated web pages and whatnot, I just threw on my Festival of the lost mask, some reclaimed armor, and dove in all by my lonesome, lolz
I first started destiny 2 right when season of the lost started and I got it free to play I ended up buying the deluxe beyond edition little less then a month ago because of content I really wanted (elemental well mods that you got in season of the splicer in particular) and it was also 50 percent off so I decided to get it incase all those things available in it became unavailable when witch queen dropped. As far as content went when I first started it was actually pretty hefty, I got the beyond light, forsaken, and shadowkeep campaigns all in full. Gambit, crucible all strikes I think raids dungeons all the season gear from season of lost was available plus all gear from europa the dreaming city and the moon it definitely kept me occupied for a long time thou to be honest I bought the season pass pretty early on I don't know how much that effects the play for players.
I'm so surprised to hear about this tbh... I started playing destiny like December 9th or something as a new light and never had a problem with dares of eternity... The only ones I've even came close to failing were the master ones but that's usually a mod issue on the fireteam
I started playing destiny 6 days ago and the first thing i did was start playing dares of eternity since nightfalls were dlc and i never got stomped? Most people were also under 50 in season rank.
I started playing around a month or so ago (context: I started the original 'start' of the game before Beyond Light changed it, but never finished it, then again at some point started the New Light campaign without finishing it, but now am back and have played through everything), and my god, this video is accurate. I opened Destiny 2 for the first time in years and... I'm in an activity? I'm in a voice channel with some people and mention that I don't know what's happening, and they just say "oh that's just Dares". I assumed it was some new introduction to the story, maybe something they changed again for the start of the story. Oh, how I was wrong. After the second or so wipe, I asked my friends why this was the new start of the game, and they tell me that it's not supposed to be - it's just a regular activity you queue into that they throw you into for some reason. I glance around, and notice that *everyone* in this activity are all level 1. Oh boy. It took hours, but we finally got to the final boss fight. Got the health bar almost all the way down and.... My game crashed. I had spent literal HOURS getting through this, only for my game to crash against the final boss of it????? I was so beyond frustrated. I opened the game again, once again thrown into Dares, as my previous efforts were thrown away completely. I express my frustration out loud only for them to say, "why don't you just leave it then?" They clarified how I could return to orbit, and my god, I went crazy. THEY KNEW THIS ENTIRE TIME I COULD HAVE JUST LEFT, BUT THEY DIDN'T TELL ME????
Spent days getting new lights through it. Usually I was the only up to level person so it was hell on earth but got about 50 groups through until I went and ate lunch lol

Went in with 5 new lights and i gotta say it was a hard carry, basically you're the one that doing all the shits but surprisingly no one left and we celebrated for finally getting out of this hell hole
I discovered this when I wanted to mess around wearing a chicken mask and use off meta exotics back in December and loaded into DOE before infusing my gear. Just as a reference Raid 24 hour challenges only caps you at 20 below light level.

I honestly think Destiny 2 positioning as free to play needs to be changed to "free to try" or as a "demo", because you don't get much of anything without paying like the hobby players and veterans. Also, I'd like to believe that Bungie will learn from the boot into dares lower than power issue, and will either stop the cold opens into a seasonal event, or maybe only immediately put you into the seasonal event on login if you meet the minimum power requirement. It really just strikes me as an oversight, one which had the consequence of really turning off people wanting to try the game.

I was just getting back into the game because I coaxed my buddy into buying beyond light so we could play and maybe go into WQ and this fuck up nearly killed the game on the stop right there. I kept dying my friend immediately asked "Am I gonna regret my purchase?" And sadly. I nearly told him yes because of my rage.

Dota 2 was doing something like a Battle Pass as far back as 2013. It's arguably the first notable game to do it.

While they fixed dares there are a few other issues like this I learned after starting a FTP account:
The first quest you get is the Riskrunner mission. I started it at 1124LL only to find out it was 1200 recommended.
In order to unlock the umbral system, you need to accept the "decrypting the darkness" quest at the recaster, but it doesn't show up. They don't tell you, but you need to run the Astral Alignment intro mission in order to get the quest to show up. I loaded in to the mission with three other new lights who were all around 1200 LL and proceeded to be one shot by everything because it was 1250 recommended. It was a bloodbath for 20 minutes before two more people joined in above level and carried us through to the end.
I have a really big soft spot for new lights for some reason. I discovered this around December 15th before everyone else, and spent all that time grinding dares to help those poor new lights until save the new lights was a thing. Im glad the scraps of new lights were assisted to victory
To think. The expansion that tore a community apart in the end brought the community together and made it stronger than before. We lost alot. But gained so much more. not in actual content but in potential. Destiny still has alot of problem but you know your game is in good hands community wise when old lights and guardians lower their light level to help the new lights.
And you know the game is fine manager wise when the company is willing to admit when they are wrong and fix the problems.
Beyond light truely was a great expansion i say its somewhere new the top 3.

I remember being a new light in D1 and yeah there were a lot of people who dawged me but another set of people who made me love destiny with all my heart, Iv been only playing with new lights this season on Xbox LFG’s and I’ll do it for the next expansion and for the coming future. These lil lights got a lot of fight in them that’s for sure
I think the whole not many lights thing was because so many people lowered their light level that they just out numbered the actual new lights.
I usually averaged about 1 to 2 blueberries per run.
I didn't know about the problem with Dares and the light level matchmaking until REALLY late so when I did lower my light level to help it was too late. Almost everyone in the games were there to help out new lights and new lights were few and far between.
I really don’t think gjallarhorn should’ve been placed behind a paywall. On the other hand though, it’s not too much of a big deal to me since it’s not like it’s anarchy levels of good. It’s a great support weapon and with it your teammates can do crazy good damage without even needing an exotic.
I mean, how would you have done with Gjallahorn? In a season pass? Free with the event? Most Exotics are behind a paywall.
I don't understand this logic, 99% of exotics have been in some kind of paywall in both D1 and D2.
Exotic behind a season pass, expansion or dungeon (wish ender, xenophage) = ignore
Marketing merely mentions gjallahorn? = proceeds to ignore the rest of the content like 2 armor sets and a well made dungeon. Is it too expensive? Probably, but really acting like you paid $30 just for gjallahorn is copium
@@Spartan-sz7km the marketing doesn't just mention Gjallahorn, it mentions the dungeon, classic weapons from D1 and the sword from myth. Not to mention the 2 sets ornaments for each class that you get from Dares when you open the chests, a ghost and a sparrow.

I know of several people who downloaded the game around Christmas time and didn’t get stuck in Dares. They were all fresh new light people as well.
I wanted to start playing again so I jumped on steam and started playing (I originally had played on PSN and didn't use cross save right away). I played thru the New Light stuff without playing Dares then decided to bring over my old characters (untouched since year 1 with light lvl 960ish before the transfer) when I eventually started the game I was immediately thrown into a DoE match right near the end. A very strange experience indeed.
I was so confused when I heard the fungal wastes theme pop up, I had been idling in the mantis village for like 5 hours just before watching this and I legit thought my tv had turned back on for a whole min before I realized it was this video

Dares isn’t the only thing that matches with LL in mind, the Forges in Y2 and strikes did at one point (haven’t tested it recently).
I'm so happy i enter Destiny 2 f2p in Season of Undying, i get so much content and get a chance to play every leviathan raid. It was a blast and one of my best experience that year.

It's clear that this game isn't free to play. It wasn't created with that in mind and there are so many things that cost money that it's laughable they even call it "free to play". It's free to try and the game doesn't give you enough to try so that you can form an appropriate opinion. This either FORCING you to shell out money (for content that may go away as soon as you buy it) or uninstall it if the bit that you got doesn't interest you

Thats weird because for me, when it first dropped, I just quit the game and relaunched (I’m 1349 btw, I just didn’t want to play dares right away) and then it brought me into the regular directer. I didn’t even tru going to orbit normally tbh, I just assumed it was like a requirement so thats why I went to desktop then back to in game. From there, I went right to the dungeon, solo’d the first half to check it out, wanted to finish with friends, then went to dares and unlocking chests

Started playing again for the first time since start of Shadowfall and was thrusted straight into the Dares map. Only saving grace was having my shit auto lifted to 1100 and my Scourge gear still equipped to my Hunter to stand a chance.

I remember this, I had taken a break from destiny 2(stopped at around season of the Drifter) and decided to pop in and see what was going on in destiny 2. was a rude 'welcome' back for sure. since I was just checking in, the experience of dares of eternity even for me a past veteran, had me not return until recently. now that I am the proper light level, dares is fun, but yeah, really sucked getting thrown into it with my hodge podge set of legacy gear trying to remember how to play the game...

Yup I joined recently a year ago and starting off I had absolutely no clue what was going on and then the only thing saving from dares was decent legendaries and graviton forfeit. I clawed our group to victory channeling all my barely use pvp sweat.

When I first started in Dares I had a bad time doing it... but then saviorsarrived, my 5 other friends somehow match made into the SAME Dares run and just helped me out. No joke no fireteam and just got lucky

I first started destiny 2 right when season of the lost started and I got it free to play I ended up buying the deluxe beyond edition little less then a month ago because of content I really wanted (elemental well mods that you got in season of the splicer in particular) and it was also 50 percent off so I decided to get it incase all those things available in it became unavailable when witch queen dropped. As far as content went when I first started it was actually pretty hefty, I got the beyond light, forsaken, and shadowkeep campaigns all in full. Gambit, crucible all strikes I think raids dungeons all the season gear from season of lost was available plus all gear from europa the dreaming city and the moon it definitely kept me occupied for a long time thou to be honest I bought the season pass pretty early on I don't know how much that effects the play for players.

I'm so surprised to hear about this tbh... I started playing destiny like December 9th or something as a new light and never had a problem with dares of eternity... The only ones I've even came close to failing were the master ones but that's usually a mod issue on the fireteam
I started playing destiny 6 days ago and the first thing i did was start playing dares of eternity since nightfalls were dlc and i never got stomped? Most people were also under 50 in season rank.
I started playing around a month or so ago (context: I started the original 'start' of the game before Beyond Light changed it, but never finished it, then again at some point started the New Light campaign without finishing it, but now am back and have played through everything), and my god, this video is accurate.
I opened Destiny 2 for the first time in years and... I'm in an activity? I'm in a voice channel with some people and mention that I don't know what's happening, and they just say "oh that's just Dares". I assumed it was some new introduction to the story, maybe something they changed again for the start of the story. Oh, how I was wrong. After the second or so wipe, I asked my friends why this was the new start of the game, and they tell me that it's not supposed to be - it's just a regular activity you queue into that they throw you into for some reason. I glance around, and notice that *everyone* in this activity are all level 1. Oh boy.
It took hours, but we finally got to the final boss fight. Got the health bar almost all the way down and.... My game crashed. I had spent literal HOURS getting through this, only for my game to crash against the final boss of it????? I was so beyond frustrated. I opened the game again, once again thrown into Dares, as my previous efforts were thrown away completely. I express my frustration out loud only for them to say, "why don't you just leave it then?" They clarified how I could return to orbit, and my god, I went crazy.

I just jumped back on last week after a few years and I had no idea what was going on but I did beat it lol and now honestly that is one of my favorite thing to run I hope they keep it around and its not a limited time

I discovered this when I wanted to mess around wearing a chicken mask and use off meta exotics back in December and loaded into DOE before infusing my gear. Just as a reference Raid 24 hour challenges only caps you at 20 below light level.

I honestly think Destiny 2 positioning as free to play needs to be changed to "free to try" or as a "demo", because you don't get much of anything without paying like the hobby players and veterans.
Also, I'd like to believe that Bungie will learn from the boot into dares lower than power issue, and will either stop the cold opens into a seasonal event, or maybe only immediately put you into the seasonal event on login if you meet the minimum power requirement. It really just strikes me as an oversight, one which had the consequence of really turning off people wanting to try the game.

I remember coming in after the game went f2p and all that content got vaulted. I was just getting back into the game because I coaxed my buddy into buying beyond light so we could play and maybe go into WQ and this fuck up nearly killed the game on the stop right there. I kept dying my friend immediately asked "Am I gonna regret my purchase?" And sadly. I nearly told him yes because of my rage.
